=== ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu+1 to: Discussion and support for Precise Pangolin | Release schedule: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseSchedule | Oneiric Support in #ubuntu | Beta 1 Released! http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/precise/beta1
amandasue75Does UbuntuOne work with 12.04?  I don't see the option in my menu when looking in /home/amanda with (nautilus?) the file browser.01:18
snadgecongrats on the beta guys.. i know i've bitched and moaned about all sorts of little things.. but much love01:30
snadgeand its only because i care :P01:30
urfr332gOlol, about yourself.01:30
urfr332gO:)01:30
snadgesure.. but i figure if im annoyed about stuff.. being a long time ubuntu user01:31
snadgechances are, other people will be too01:31
urfr332gOso what are your thoughts on the unity desktop.01:31
urfr332gOslowly backs away01:31
snadgei actually like it.. but theres been a few changes to it, that have irritated me slightly01:31
snadgeif i had to name the top two.. it would be the removal of dodge windows support01:32
urfr332gOah01:32
snadgeand changing the default switch desktop key combination01:32
DaekdroomDidn't they change that back?01:32
urfr332gOnobody here has anything to do with the development though.01:32
urfr332gOother then as testers01:33
snadgefrom ctrl-alt and ctrl-alt-shift (to switch and move current window).. to shift-super and alt-super respectively01:33
DaekdroomYeah, but I think they changed it back for the time.01:33
snadgeright.. thats why im in the ubuntu-unity channel as well ;)01:33
snadgeoh really? to both?01:33
DaekdroomUntil they fix the problem with the Super shortcuts spawing Dash/Shortcut overlay.01:33
DaekdroomBut let me check01:33
snadgeok so its a temporary revert01:34
snadgeif the switch combos change again .. i would prefert ctrl-super to switch instead of shift-super01:34
snadgei think that is actually easier.. shift-super is a bit of a contortion, for such a frequently used shortcut01:34
DaekdroomAnd yes, they did change it back. The revert is in unity-team/ppa01:34
DaekdroomNot sure about the precise repos.01:34
snadgewell i'll do an update and see what happens01:35
snadgewhat about window dodge? .. im pretty sure shuttleworth chimed in on that one01:35
snadgein support of axing it01:35
DaekdroomShuttleworth liked it, and supported axing it regardless.01:36
snadgei understand that the code is ugly, buggy, and people dont want to maintain it01:36
snadgehence why it was removed, instead of being left as an option in ccsm01:36
fhsaleshello people, i am having some trouble installing the firmware for my wlan adapter. i found a site with instructions but i am having some doubts.can someone help me?01:37
snadgei'll fall in love with unity.. and have its babies if dodge is back, and ctrl-alt desktop switch ;)01:37
urfr332gOlol01:42
logIs there a reason why I haven't been offered the beta upgrade through Update Manager?01:46
logI'm currently on Alpha 2, I think.01:46
urfr332gOlog, the update manager just keeps up with the release cycle.01:47
logOh.01:47
urfr332gOlog, you can imagine your special though if you want. :)01:48
logI'm confused. :P01:48
snadgeummm. i dont see a new version of unity being pushed for the beta01:48
arandsnadge: You can't base a marriage on an idolised image of your partner you know ;)01:48
snadgei just ran an update/upgrade, and it didnt pull down a new unity :(01:48
logurfr332gO: So how do I get the beta?01:48
urfr332gOarand, most do anyway.01:48
snadgehehe01:48
logurfr332gO: Or do I not "get" the beta?01:48
snadgelog: sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade01:49
urfr332gOlog, if your updated you have it.01:49
logHow can I check?01:49
arand!final01:49
ubottuIf you install a development version of Ubuntu Precise and keep up with package updates, then you will be upgraded to the official release of 12.04 when it comes out. To make sure, type « sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade » in a terminal.01:49
loguname -a doesn't say the version of Precise01:49
urfr332gOlog, check if your updated use those commands above01:49
arandlog: There is only one version of precise01:49
logI mean Alpha/Beta01:49
arandThere is only one version of precise01:50
urfr332gOlog, they are just names in part of the cycle01:50
logOh.01:50
logWell, I ran those commands, and nothing was upgraded. So I guess I'm running the latest.01:50
arandalpha is precise-a-while-ago, beta is precise-at-the-moment and final is precise-will-be-later01:51
snadgesure.. and the reversion for the change desktop default kb shortcut.. isnt in the beta :(01:51
snadgehow do i view the changelog for the unity desktop ppa ?01:51
logarand: What's the difference between running this and daily builds?01:51
logIf they're all the same.01:52
arandlog: none, it's all just snapshots01:52
* log scratches his head.01:52
arandAnd they will be brought to the same point once you upgrade them01:52
logSo the daily builds just come with updated software?01:52
arandThey come with whatever versions of the packages was in the archive at the point of building them.01:53
arandBut this changes constantly.01:53
arand(Well, less so now in beta and onwards, presumably)01:54
logAh.01:54
logThanks for clearing this up. :) Helps a lot.01:54

alkisgHi, does lightdm supports selecting the session UI language? I don't see such an option at the greeter...04:17
asdlhhi, lot's of problems here, anyone to help?04:34
alkisgI believe you need to ask your question directly instead of asking if anyone's available04:34
asdlhall menus leave a shadow that does not ever disappear once closed04:35
asdlhsame with alttab window04:35
asdlhwhen nautilus is opened, both the keyboard and the right mouse button cease to work04:35
asdlhcannot select anything in nautilus04:35
asdlhmenu at the top right also ceases working after nautilus04:36
asdlhit looks like Id be fine should I remove the advanced graphical features, but ccsm isn't there anymore, so what do I do? the system is barely usable like that04:39
asdlhnm, found ccsm, but not sure what to disable here. Is there actually nobody online on a 2nd day of a release?04:41
asdlhok, unity reset gives me my keyboard back and it seems to get broken not just by the nautilus04:45
oihait was me above, FWIW unity-2d didn't work but gnome does and works ok so far05:05
* alkisg switched to gnome-shell too, unfortunately unity breaks vertical sync and its UI is too counter-productive05:12
alkisgSo anyway let me repeat my question because it scrolled too much above...05:14
alkisgIsn't it possible to select the session UI language from the lightdm greeter?05:14
rattatoueJust a random question, in Ubuntu 12.04, does anyone else get constant messages about things crashing left and right or is it just me?05:18
snadgedunno about constant05:19
snadgeit has happened on the odd occasion at times during its development05:19
rattatouesnadge, I am using Cinnamon Desktop runs great. If I go to Gnome-shell or unity I get the crash message about every 3 seconds about this crashing or this crashing etc and its really annoying. I got 5 at one time05:21
snadgefrom an upgrade or a clean install?05:22
rattatoueUpgrade05:23
rattatouesnadge, do you think thats why?05:25

rattatoue!clean install05:47
urfr332gOrattatoue, why don't you ask the channel?05:47
rattatoueI did ask the channel earlier, noone responded05:47
rattatoueI am trying to figure out if on 12.04, I keep getting a bunch of crash messages. Like sometimes 3 at a time. Im trying to figure out if this is normal because its a beta or if its more likely because I upgraded from a 11.10 install. Like if I did a fresh installed of 12.04 would the crashes be less likely05:48
urfr332gOrattatoue, normal for a development05:49
rattatoueurfr332gO, would it be a chance of less crashes if I had done a clean install?05:49
urfr332gOrattatoue, hard to say to many confounds I get them with a fresh install.05:50
urfr332gOrattatoue, are you running this as your main install?05:51
rattatoueurfr332gO, yes and no. It is my main install yes, but at the same time theres nothing important that if I wipe it out im going to be like all freaked out about it. Most I do is surf web and videos05:51
urfr332gOrattatoue, good that you have nothing to looses but not a reliable OS until actually released really.05:52
urfr332gOloose*05:53
rattatoueurfr332gO, oh I know that, I was just curious if it was more reliable right now if it would of been a fresh install vs a upgrade. Like wondering if the upgrade made the install worse05:53
urfr332gOrattatoue, nobody can really answer that.05:53
urfr332gOwith real authority anyway.05:54
rattatoueurfr332gO, are you running 12.04 right this moment?05:54
urfr332gOrattatoue, no oneiric, I have it installed though.05:55
rattatoueurfr332gO, I will probably just have to do a fresh install of oneiric or might go back to 10.04 since I liked the gnome panel lol05:58
urfr332gOrattatoue, yeah 10.04 is supported for a year past April, use what you like. :)05:58
rattatoueurfr332gO, true true :) I like the newer ubuntu but sorry unity aggrevates me and gnome-shell not much better05:59
urfr332gOrattatoue, yeah I have gotten used to it, a bit irratating both are still in development.05:59
rattatoueurfr332gO, which desktop is yours of choice if I can ask06:01
urfr332gOrattatoue, I swotched to gnome 306:01
urfr332gOswitched06:01
urfr332gOI use synapse to bring up apps though.06:02
rattatoueurfr332gO, is that the one where you move your mouse to the top left and it brings up the window switcher and that06:02
urfr332gOyeah, and synapse is a key prompt to search.06:02
rattatouesynapse..wait isnt that from the movie Antitrust lol06:03
urfr332gOgnome 3 is installed with gnome-shell.06:03
rattatoueurfr332gO, you ever try cinnamon desktop?06:04
urfr332gOrattatoue, no I'm not partial to mint stuff, it is just ubuntu in drag. :)06:05
urfr332gOthats where the cinnamon desktop started anyway.06:06
rattatoueurfr332gO, lol oh im not big on linux mint either, but I like this. Its like gnome-shell in a way, but I can make it look like the old gnome panels or just a bar at the bottom etc.06:06
urfr332gOyou can install debian if you want gnome 2 or 10.04, the developers of gnome 2 don't support it anymore as well.06:07
rattatouei have installed debian, however I like updating to the latest stuff that breaks apparently, so if you upgrade debian much you end up with gnome-shell too.06:08
urfr332gOah I wondered about that, I have fedora 16 as well it is gnome 3.06:09
aBoundUbuntu LTS releases mature over time and usually will tend to become stable.06:09
urfr332gOxubuntun or xfce4 are not bad, there about 50 possible desktops.06:09
urfr332gOxubuntu*06:09
rattatoueI might have to try xubuntu again, last time I tried it was like eh about it, but who knows might be better now. I will avoid kde at all cost though06:10
urfr332gOI never liked kubuntu myself.06:10
rattatoueI liked kde 3.5. Then just like gnome(my opinion) they started changing stuff and making it more updated and I think they made it worse.06:11
rattatoueurfr332gO, I know this isnt ubuntu related, but how is fedora? I havent used that in 5 years I think lol06:13
alkisgrattatoue: you do know about the gnome-classic (no effects) session, right?06:13
alkisgThat's still gnome3, but has panels similar to gnome206:14
rattatouealkisg, yes I do, but it still isnt as close to gnome2 as I want. I liked the customization of gnome2. I even tried what was it mate and thats buggy as crap. And thats another mint thing lol06:14
rattatoueI might try going back to 10.04 tonight, just avoid upgrading for another year06:15
icerootrattatoue: have a look at lubuntu06:17
urfr332gOrattatoue, not bad I hardly use it it is just a backup really.06:18
rattatoueiceroot, i will look right now.06:19
rattatoueIs it a good time to say im a quad core system with 8 gb of ram and 1gb graphics card lol06:19
rattatoueiceroot, ty for the suggestion, however I just looked the desktop is kinda eh for me. Ty for the suggestion though appreciate it.06:20
icerootrattatoue: its a desktop with strange animations06:20
icerootwithout06:20
rattatoueurfr332gO, does the keyboard shortcuts in gnome-shell work right for synapse? I know with gnome-do I use to have to hit Windows Key then SPACe twice just to get it to activate the Windows Key Space Combination06:22
urfr332gOrattatoue, synapse defaults to ctrl-space works fine yes.06:23
rattatoueurfr332gO, i will brb06:23
rattatoueurfr332gO, okay im back and I just fixed all my crashing in gnome-shell. Now gnome-shell on 12.04 runs smooth as 11.10 :D06:31
urfr332gOcool06:32
urfr332gOI didn't see any crashes yesterday maybe some of that has been fixed.06:32
rattatouei like this synapse, much better then gnomed-o06:32
urfr332gOyeah I like it makes life easier really.06:33
rattatouetrue, I liked gnome do, but that doesnt work so well in gnome-shell06:33

MuserHi! I just installed Ubuntu Precise beta1 on my X220 Tablet. xinput --list lists Wacom stylus, touch and eraser, but only touch works. What could be the cause?07:24
MuserThinkWiki has some tips, but they seem to be outdated (manual editing of xorg.conf, etc) and mostly seem to fix Wacom not being detected instead of not being functional07:26
Muserxsetwacom --list devices also seems to work07:30
h31_Hello. Are there anybody who tried 12.04 beta? It is already stable for everyday usage?08:16

ubottuError: Bug #938904 is a duplicate of bug #936141, but it is private (https://launchpad.net/bugs/936141)08:32
ronaldeDutch users have a serious bug (#938904) in unity-lens-video because single quotes don't get escaped. Because of the visibility of the Video Lens this is a real serious bug for Dutch users. Unfortunaltely the mentioned bug (to which I attached a simple patch) is marked as a duplicate of #936141 which is unaccessable (marked a private). What to do?08:32

ronaldedavidcalle, bazhang and me wondered whether we should file a bug against launchapd (because it reports the bug doesn't exist, which of course isn't so.08:36
bazhangronalde, that was more tongue in cheek than a real suggestion08:36
brotpmjdebruijn: update-manager -d does not work, too :)08:36

mvobrot: could you please run "DEBUG_UPDATE_MANAGER=1 do-release-upgrade -d" and see if that outputs anything interessting?08:38
brot"reading file '/var/lib/update-manager/meta-release-lts-development'" - for some reason it reads the LTS file08:39
brothttp://paste.ubuntu.com/864747/ <- whole output08:40
brotthat explains why it says there is nothing, however that does not explain why it thinks 11.10 is an lts.08:41
brotnow that i have set it to look for non lts versions, it works.08:42
mvobrot: great - odd though if that happend on a 11.10 install08:42
brotweird, that must have been set while the (not quite smooth) upgrade from 11.04 -> 11.1008:43
brotthis is my htpc, and it has been upgraded from 8.04, so maybe its some old cruft that confused the update-process. thanks for your help mvo :)08:44

pangolinI have been getting this error every time I reboot/login http://imagebin.org/201635 what is causing it? I think it may be neopunk indexer but I'm really not sure.21:08
pangolinI've disabled indexing of emails, will see on next reboot if it happens again21:09
yofelif it's any kind of "failed to fetch the ressource collection" then that's something misconfigured in akonadi21:11
yofellooking in akonadiconsole might help21:11
pangolinhmm I don't see anything email related in akonadi21:18
yofelpangolin: kmail uses akonadi to store emails though, so you should still see your account there. From the error message I would think it's a "Local Folders" ressource or so21:21
yofelsomething with akonadi_maildir_resource_* as Identifier21:22
pangolinI use thunderbird but assume it still applies21:22
yofelakonadi would probably still be running, and it does a self-check on start which can show those messages21:23
yofelsadly it doesn't have a self-correction as well -.-21:23

User_007guys, my indicator-power only shows time remaining: can you help me modify the indicator so it shows percentage instead time?23:18
glosoliUser_007: right click on it23:27
glosoliUser_007: and untick that option "Show time"23:27
glosoliUser_007: As for percentage I am not quite sure it's possible23:27
User_007¬¬23:27
User_007ok, to disable showing time is not the problem, i just want it to show percentage instead23:28
FernandoMiguel% is sooooo unreliable23:29
User_007there must be a function inside that changes percentage in tina23:29
User_007time*23:29
User_007FernandoMiguel, here it is... time keeps floating.. sometimes it show 3h, few minutes later it shows 35min then 2h....23:30
User_007with percentage i have a real estimative about how much battery i have23:30
FernandoMiguelehe23:30
FernandoMiguelso will percentage23:30
FernandoMiguelbattery time (or %) changes according to current usage23:31
User_007yes, but my average usage is 1minute/%23:31
User_007sometimes i use more power, sometimes less23:31
User_007a instant time estimator is not what i want23:32
glosoliUser_007:  Percentage is more inaccurate than time23:32
User_007so you say.23:32
User_007in my case i do prefer percentage.23:33
glosolidoing nothing you can see 80 percents, you give processor some hard job it can suddenly drop to 50 and after job finished go back to 75 for example23:33
User_007glosoli, never happened to me23:33
glosoliUser_007: As its really inaccurate I don't see a point for developers adding it as an option.23:33
itaylor57that was fun, crashed to ubuntu running in low res grapics23:33
glosoliUser_007: you can try adding to to wish list, but I am pretty sure it will be denied instantly23:35
User_007glosoli, did you know where can i change it to percentage? (Where in the source code must i change)23:35
glosoliUser_007: Have no idea, anyway if you somehow change the code for that indicator you might get it broken by some updates or smth :)23:36
glosoliThere is really no point seeing everything percentage, it's just a marketing trick23:36
