Unit193notify-send02:13
Boom_FarmerI'm trying to manually add a session option to lightDM. Is this the right place? Who do I do it?02:28

VermicelliI just installed hamachi and some prereqs, and noticed that I've lost my wallpaper and my icons are rearranged and different. Logging out and back in shows me my old desktop look fora  second, but then the background goes blue, my icons change, and thunar shows me my home folder. Any ideas?06:54
chelzcheck your installer logs, undo the changes, see if the desktop comes back06:55
chelzif it does you can then install the prereqs one by one to see which breaks your desktop06:56
VermicelliIt doesn't seem totally broken, though. It shows me how it utually looks for justa  second, after I log back in.06:56
VermicelliGoogle's not showing me right away- could you direct me toward the installer log?06:58
chelzthere are a few i think. there's the dpkg and apt logs. not sure which would have it.06:59
chelzpretty sure its in a log somewhere06:59
Unit193/var/log/06:59
VermicelliNothing here I can use.07:02
VermicelliSo I removed everything I installed, through memory and autoremove. Desktop's fine now, but /home still opens as I log in, and now I have no window borders/frames. X-|07:07
chelzodd. well something you installed messed with stuff i guess, so one of those is to blame07:08
Unit193You can remove .cache/sessions (iirc) and you *can* nuke your settings, or backup and del.07:08
Vermicellixfwm4 --replace did it.07:10
VermicelliAt least the borders part.07:10
VermicelliWhat can I do to not have /home open at login?07:13
beata1I have sort of an opposite problem to puzzle out: I have maximus running, but my maximised windows come up with decorations at login. Unmaximising and maximising thereafter works as expected.07:13
jadoebeata1: I had that problem for years. I switched to devil's pie.07:23
beata1That may also be able to solve the issue with firefox not being restored to the proper workspaces. I shall look at it further.07:26

LachezarHello. Can I get gnome-keyring-manager to work in XUbuntu? I can see it running, but nether gpg-agent is available, and there is another ssh-agent impeding.12:28

LachezarMarzata: I want to use the Menu key to access special symbols (like Degree symbol with Menu+G).13:51

LachezarMarzata: For me AltGr+G opens the Go menu inthe terminal, and AltGr+Shift+G does nothing.14:05
LachezarMarzata: I regularly use the Right-Alt as normal Alt. That's why I want the Menu button for that.14:05

TheSheepMarzata: Ū14:10
TheSheepMarzata: every keyboard layout has different characters under alt+gr14:10
TheSheepalt_gr14:10
TheSheepLachezar: you might want to set yourself a compose key14:10
Marzatawhat do you need the menu key for?14:14
LachezarTheSheep: Compose is too-much work. When I was with Ubuntu the keyboard settings allowed me to select Menu for the Level3 switch (or something like that) and add additional graphics characters...14:26
TheSheepLachezar: you can do that, with console-setup, iirc14:27
TheSheepLachezar: dpkg-reconfigure console-setup --all14:27
LachezarTheSheep: I am using a Terminal in XUbuntu, not the consoles.14:27
TheSheepLachezar: the keyboard config is shared14:28
LachezarTheSheep: DOH!14:28
LachezarTheSheep: I actively reject the idea, that all users on the machine will have the same preferences!14:28
* Lachezar wonders how will he make it up to his colleagues for making them switch to Linux...14:29
TheSheepthen I guess it's playing with keyboard maps14:30
TheSheepwell, excuse me that nobody did the work of including your specific configuration in some gui tool14:31
mongywhat wrong with just using xmodmap for just your user to make a compose key.15:06

Argafalhi folks. I configured a xubuntu 11.10 installation in a way that the default user does not need a password but is readily logged-in after boot-up. I'd like to change this now and get a login manager instead - can someone tell me how to do this please?15:23
MarzataTheSheep: let me see15:23
TheSheepArgafal: how did you configure it?15:26
Marzataand why thunar starts slow?15:33
ArgafalTheSheep: I was asked during installation15:33
hobgoblinArgafal: I'd look to see if it's set in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf15:35
hobgoblinthat at least is where I put it manually15:36
Argafalhobgoblin: bingo, that's where it is.15:36
hobgoblincool - comment it out or remove it and that should do it :)15:36
Argafalhobgoblin: thanks for pointing it out, did exactly what i wanted it to do.15:43

LachezarRE. I've finally found out what I need to do to get Menu+? combinations to work:15:47
Lachezarsetxkbmap -option lv3:menu_switch,misc:typo15:47
LachezarNow the question is how to make use of it, because now when I switch my layout it reverts these settings.15:47
Lachezar... actually it is zeroed out when I open the Keyboard Applet preferences, not when switching layouts.15:49

hydesterTheSheep: it just looked like it isn't playing nice with xfwm settings.  wasn't sure which part to pursue20:58
TheSheephydester: if you use compiz, you are not using xfwm anymore20:59
TheSheephydester: so those settings are irrelevant20:59
hydesterok, i'll just go back to xfwm.  just discovered Awn and was thinking compiz was needed for it.  it looks like it still works and icons jump when using xfwm21:01
hydesterit just seemed that this panel was nicer than xubuntu stock21:02
hydesteri wonder if this is what inspired the unity panel21:02
TheSheepunity was mostly "inspired" by macosx21:03
