sveinseHi any activity here now? I have a natty armel system which hangs during boot. When I got around to start it in verbose and to start a serial terminal very early, I see that mountall, plymouth and udevd is running. I can't find out why the boot is stalling.20:18
JanCsveinse: it's not fsck'ing or something like that?20:26
sveinseJanC, no nothing20:28
sveinseI'm not ruling out a faulty kernel or HW at this point. udev should trigger a series of events (*-device-*), could this be depended upon to be able to continue the boot?20:29
sveinseExcept dmesg shows nothing suspicious20:30
sveinseBut I trace this back to no rc-sysinit, hence no "filesystem" event being emitted, hence mountall which stalls20:33
JanCyou can probably look at /var/log/udev to see if those events were triggered20:34
JanCif you can access the filesystem20:34
sveinsejanC, no, root isn't mounted as rw yet20:34
sveinseDo you know if I can --verbose on mountall ?20:35
JanCwell, I don't know if you can boot a known working system from SD or USB with your ARM system, and then access the normal root filesystem from that?20:36
sveinseI can take out the sdcard and insert it into my desktop machine, yes20:36
sveinseThis is how I got --verbose on upstart and an early serial console in the first place20:37
sveinseSo I can modify anything20:37
JanCand read the udev log file?20:37
JanChm, but it probably didn't write anything, right20:37
JanCseems like mountall does have a --verbose setting20:38
JanCso in theory you can edit its upstart job config?20:38
sveinsejup20:38
sveinsedoing it now20:39
JanC--dev-wait-time=... might be useful too, for some problems20:40
sveinsehmm. --verbose logs to stdout/err which is logged into /var/log/boot-something.log20:41
sveinseWhich isn't writeable yet. I'll have to modify the kernel params and enable rw I think20:42
JanCcan't you redirect it to your serial console?20:43
sveinseJanC, yes I just did and now mountall continues like nothings ever happened.21:09
sveinseJanC, but I have to leave. Thanks for your help. I got some pointers of where to look.21:09
