bnmorganIn tinkering and getting ready for raspberry pi that will be here (in june) i installed ubuntu in a VM, and it seems to be working, but i have one main problem04:09
bnmorganwhat do i do with it? I mean, I need some purpose for it....it seems straight forward enough that I don't really know what niche it fills that I need it for.04:10
philipballewwell I use it to do everything I need for a computer04:12
philipballewwhat do you do with your computer currently bnmorgan04:12
bnmorganunfortunatly due to my cad program, that isn't really an option for me.04:12
philipballewbecause it can probably do most all of that, plus diffrent things04:13
bnmorganengineering with a particular cad program that isn't linux friendly.04:13
philipballewyeah, but you probably do other things as well. it can do that04:13
bnmorganhave been begging for a linux version of it since i started using it 14 years ago04:13
philipballewautocad?04:13
bnmorganright, i surf, play a few games, btc/gpu mining, and that's about it.04:14
bnmorganno, solidworks.04:14
philipballewbitcoin huh?04:14
philipballewis that profitable?04:14
bnmorgani even installed ubuntu a while back as a separate OS, but it was just too big a PITA to reboot when i needed cad.04:15
Unit193You can stick screen and alpine, irssi, newsbeuter, canto, or anything else on there and set it atop your router.04:15
bnmorgan(and now i can't figure out how to undo that or remove its propensity to wantt to autoboot into linux)04:15
Unit193Edit /etc/default/grub for that.04:15
Unit193Also you can boot from a windows rescue disk and run `fixmbr` to remove Grub and then you should be able to remove that partition.04:16
bnmorganbtc: yes, even with my slow card, i am profitable04:16
bnmorgani don't have a rescue disk, but will boot to the other side and come back when  i have time and request direct instructions04:17
bnmorgannot tonight, it's afer 2200 hrs and i am nearing braindead04:17
bnmorganok, what are you talking about setting on my router?04:17
Unit193Sticking the pi and directly plug it in. :P04:20
bnmorganohh, i'm not that far along yet.04:21
bnmorgani'm talking about what to do with ubuntu in the meantime, the one i have running in VM04:22
Unit193Whatever you like.04:23
Unit193Install pianobar for one. ;)04:23
bnmorgani don't see a pianobar04:35
bnmorgani see pithos which is listed in reference04:36
bnmorganmeh, tomorrow maybe04:37
bnmorgangnight  and thanks for the info04:37
Unit193ubot2`: !info pianobar04:38
Unit193Right, good night!04:38
izpelehello not sure if this is the right channel. But having problems with getting 11.10 to recognize my brother scanner.  I run brsaneconfig -q and it does show my scanner but when i run scan program it doesn't find scanner?05:03
izpeleHello, having problem with Brother scanner, anyone have any experience with gettin g 11.10 to recognize scanner? Printer works fine, but scanner does not recognize from scan util05:05
holsteinizpele: how is it connected? USB?05:06
izpelewired network05:06
holsteini would try via USB, just to have "some joy"05:07
izpelelol... i would need a long usb cord05:07
holsteinnetwork scanning might be more tricky... last time i looked at one, where was a web interface05:07
izpeleI am able to log on to web interface of scanner no prob thru browser..05:09
izpelethe scanner is even recognized by brsaneconfig -q command.. but software doesn't find05:10
holsteinizpele: the webinterface im referencing allows scanning through it05:11
holsteinwhat scanner is it?05:12
izpele7820N05:12
izpeleMFC05:12
holsteinso, you are *not* going to take the thing over and plug it in via USB to troubleshoot?05:15
holsteinyou are referencing http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/MFC-7820N ?05:16
izpeleyes05:16
holsteinizpele: i would start at "scanner" and just follow the steps05:18
izpelei did.. everything checks out.. get the right responses and confirmation of installed scanner but scanner utils don't recognize it. using 64 bit version of 11.10.. not sure if that makes a diff05:19
holsteincould05:19
holsteini choose my battles typically05:20
holsteinif there is not web interface to scan with, i would seriously plug it in and check05:20
holsteini would also try with some live CD's05:20
holsteintry a 32bit 10.04 CD.. see if you can get it working, then you'll be more preparded05:20
holsteinprepared*05:20
izpelehmm.. ok, i'll keep trying, thanks for your help.05:21
izpeleholstein - got it working!05:33
izpeleanyone who is using 64 bit 11.10 and trying to get network scanning working this is what i used: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=187432305:36
nlsthzncool, always nice to see the forum being of assistance :)05:37
