gordonjcphmmm12:00
gordonjcpdoes banshee really have no way to set which device it plays back through?12:01
MartijnVdSgordonjcp: no, because pulseaudio does12:02
gordonjcpright, but that means I have to try to get pulseaudio working12:02
MartijnVdSbut that's easy :)12:03
popeyUh-oh! We're entering the "gordonjcp spends an hour telling us how audio sucks on Ubuntu" zone.. ☺12:04
* gord sees what else is on12:05
* brobostigon puts ch4 on, BBT :)12:05
AlanBellwhere is the per-application device control these days?12:06
MartijnVdSI thought it was with the per-app volume control12:06
AlanBellI can change the volume per-application, and change the overall output device12:06
MartijnVdSbut it isn't12:06
popeypavucontrol?12:07
MartijnVdSthere is per-class device control ("multimedia" -> speakers, "phone calls" -> headphone)12:07
AlanBellah yes, pavucontrol, but not the default thingie in the sound indicator12:07
gordonjcppopey: <shrug>12:08

AlanBellpopey: do you find kazam chomps *lots* of CPU?12:12
AlanBellmy laptop keeps overheating and going into thermal shutdown before I can record anything12:12
popeyno12:12
AlanBellgtk-recordmydesktop uses hardly anything during recording, then spins one core at 100% while saving12:13

popeyi did suggest to david that he implement a similar feature12:13

AlanBelland prop up the back of the laptop for better airflow12:21
popeyhttp://popey.com/~alan/kazam.png12:23
popeystarted recording on the left of that window, mid way through I did some compiz sillyness12:23
AlanBellwhat processor is that?12:28
popeymodel name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz12:30
* jacobw likes abcde12:33
jacobw'a better cd encoder'12:33
jacobwcli ripper12:33
AlanBellpopey: I am using Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU       M 330  @ 2.13GHz12:34
MartijnVdSjacobw: there used to be a version "for gnome" -- abcdefg12:43
AlanBellthink I will do an ffmpeg screencast, and grab the audio on a different computer and then put them back together in openshot afterwards12:45
MartijnVdSAlanBell: can't you use a pulseaudio 'monitor' channel?12:47
AlanBellwell I was trying that with kazam, but it didn't seem to work quite right, plus my laptop kept shutting down12:56
popeylp:ffscreencast might work better12:57
popeyit records audio from teh card too12:57
popeyand mixes audio for you12:57
AlanBellhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/887728/ I installed the dependencies, but it is missing something13:01
czajkowskiTheOpenSourcerer: predictions for today13:02
TheOpenSourcererczajkowski: A festival of cracking Rugby.13:03
TheOpenSourcererI reckon: Italy will beat Scotland by a whisker. Wales will have France (although I'd rather the other way round) and that England will comfortably take Ireland.13:04
TheOpenSourcererWill be off to my local shortly for a long afternoon :-)13:05
czajkowskinot sure italy have it in them13:06
czajkowskihoping wales beat france.13:06
czajkowskiand as for the last one13:06
czajkowskitime will tell :)13:06
czajkowskianyone know how you create a project page on G+ ?13:06
AlanBellpopey: couple of bugs :)13:13
AlanBellhttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1931867 lossless_ultrafast has gone13:14
AlanBellxrandr | awk '/\*/ {print $1}' returns dimensions of all monitors, it should just grab one of them to put in $res13:14
AlanBellyay, got the popeyscript working13:25
AlanBellneeded a different audio codec libvo_aacenc13:25

s-foxHi everyone15:19
DJonesAfternoon s-fox, bit of a late reply, but Hi15:42
s-foxHello  DJones =)15:43
s-foxHow're you?15:43
DJonesNot bad thanks, just watching the rugby, you?15:43
s-foxSame, busy sulking at the result erlier against italy =/15:45
GirlyGirlAh rugby fanticism15:45
DJoness-fox: Just keeping my fingers crossed for Wales15:46
s-foxas long as wales don't do anything silly the welsh will win easily15:48
DJonesHope so15:48
* AlanBell is slightly tempted to install boot to gecko on the samsung Galaxy S216:03

DJoness-fox: A bit too good for my liking16:07

DJonesOne eye on Bradford v St Helens on tv, one eye on 6 nations, and a 3rd eye reading a book :)17:26
GirlyGirlI'm screwed with the Windows 7 enterprise system I'm working with. Someone put all sorts of settings like nude people on the desktop and installed this thing called deep freeze. (basically makes windows read only) so all settings come back every reboot and I can't install anything. You have no idea what its like working with a pc with nude people everywhere in its theme and auto opening dirty videos every few mintues. I hate wor17:39
GirlyGirlStupid how ms can let a 3rd party app lock their os to prevent changes17:39
penguin42GirlyGirl: I think it's intention is so that at work machines can be locked down to *stop* people installing crap on them18:10
shaunomakes complete sence to me, except for nude people showing up multiple times.  my office is nothing like that :/18:12
penguin42(and if that's in the UK you could probably throw half a dozen lawyers at a place that let that go on)18:13
daubers!google test18:13
lubotu3I have no google command, use http://www.google.com/18:13
OmNomDePlumeAnybody watching the Spurs - Bolton game?18:23
OmNomDePlumeIt looks like Muamba might have had a heart attack on the field.18:23
OmNomDePlumeThis isn't a joke - he collapsed nowhere near the ball and they can't wake him up.18:24
DJonesWhat channel is that on?18:30
czajkowskiDJones: sky18:34
czajkowskinews18:34
DJonesRight, the game was on ESPN18:35
DJonesBBC reporting that the game has been abandoned18:36
OmNomDePlume"Ian Dennis, BBC Radio 5 live's senior football reporter, has just reported that Muamba is fighting for his life."18:37
DJonesCertainly puts winning or losing into perspective, its only a game18:39
OmNomDePlumeI'm pretty sure he had a heart attack. Nobody on TV would say it, though.18:40
OmNomDePlumeThere have been a handful of players who've similarly collapsed on the field - AFAIK they all died.18:40
OmNomDePlumeThe Benfica player, the ex-City player.18:40
DJonesReading the reports, medics were giving him CPR on the pitch, my wife does that for a living says all the reports would suggest a heart attack18:41
OmNomDePlumeYep.18:41
OmNomDePlumeIt's always an "undiagnosed heart condition".18:42
OmNomDePlumeThis is pretty distressing.18:42
* penguin42 can kind of understand when that happens to kids at school, but you'd think that a professional athlete would have been monitored pretty regularly18:42
OmNomDePlumeIf he didn't display any signs of heart problems, it can't be diagnosed AFAIK.18:44
OmNomDePlumeI dunno how they'd diagnose, say, a hole in the septum if he doesn't display any symptoms.18:44
penguin42and that wouldn't show on anything even if tested under stress?18:47
DJonesHmmh, Sky news website wants me to install Silverlight to watch live, takes me to go-mono.com to install the appropriate plugin18:49
OmNomDePlumepenguin42, apparently not.18:50
OmNomDePlumeI'm guessing they don't get their hearts checked often for stuff like that.18:50
* DJones falls of his chair....It works, installs moonlight plugin and codecs18:51
OmNomDePlumeBut yeah, I think he had a heart attack.18:51

penguin42anyone any good with Nouveau on Lucid?20:46
* penguin42 seems to have a choice between a kernel where Nouveau gets upset and it falls back to vesa, or one where Nouveau works in 8bpp20:47
brobostigonwell, lucid, is alsmost 2 years old now, i would presume, many changes ghave happened, in both linux(kernel) and nouveau, so it might be worth to try something newer, as to if some improvements have been made.20:49
penguin42brobostigon: Well yes, I was trying mainline kernels on lucid; that gets me a nouveau that starts up, but 8bpp20:53
brobostigonpenguin42: have you tried forcing with a custom xorg.conf?20:54
penguin42no, not yet20:54
brobostigonok.20:54
penguin42hmm curious - I see why it's doing it - it's idea of how much video memory it has is completely bogus - it thinks it has 768kB - when it's actually got 32MB20:56
brobostigonpenguin42: has the bug been reported?. it seems from what you have said, it is over 2 years old.20:58
penguin42brobostigon: I filed it about an hour ago as bug 95812321:01
lubotu3Launchpad bug 958123 in linux (Ubuntu) "[TTM] AGP Bind memory failed." [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/95812321:01
penguin42brobostigon: I haven't split the 8bpp one out as a separate bug yet, I think it's probably only fair to do that on with a newer X server as well21:01
penguin42brobostigon: The thing is the symptom of the original bug is just abysmal performance, so perhaps there are a load of people who just think Ubuntu is naff on there machine21:03
penguin42brobostigon: It's probably http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/patch-agp-amd-k7-allow-binding-user-memory-agp-gart-help-200686231.html actually21:04
brobostigonpenguin42: ok, yes, that would bode an interesting experiment.21:04
