[09:52] Morning. [10:13] morning JonathanD [10:15] Hello rmg51 [12:04] morning peeps [12:11] morning [12:38] seems ironic that I am always running out of memory in Ubuntu [12:39] Chrome shoots above 1gb easy. Amarok is using half a gig [12:39] idk what is going on here [12:41] I have a python script that analyzes memory usage for me and I always run out long before I've used even close to my full 4gb [13:55] anyone have good stories from Saturday? [13:55] Oh, do I ever... [14:03] so, looking through my auth.log...decided to nmap an IP that was attempting bruteforce via ssh...one of his closed ports listed has my server's name in it "zeus-admin" and its the port i use for transmission [14:04] theres a couple that look like mine...its almost like im looking at a list of his and my ports, not just his [14:04] seems weird... [14:09] Strange. [14:09] Tried having someone else map it? [14:10] no, anyone willing? 184.106.65.197 [14:11] adom: zeus-admin is closed [14:11] Looks like nothing is filtered. [14:11] didn't do a full scan though. [14:12] ssh, smtp, dns, http, pop3, imap, https, secure imap and pop3, 10000, 20000 [14:12] so you see zeus-admin too... see thats weird for me because i use Transmission on this server and the remote access ports are 9090 and 9091. and my server's name is zeus [14:12] adom: I see it, but thats because it's on nmaps "interesting" list [14:13] fair enough [14:13] thanks for the scan [14:13] adom: it's a hacked webserver, I'll bet [14:13] seems like it [14:13] wget it's port 80 [14:13] has pop3 and stuff on it [14:13] Joplin Community of Christ: Go and Tell [14:13] Give em a call [14:13] wget? why not just go to the site in firefox? [14:14] You really want to visit a hacked webserver in firefox? [14:14] I do hope you have scripts blocked. [14:14] 1212 Goetz

[14:18] Anyway, Saturday. [14:18] We took the train to the city. [14:19] Good Morning [14:19] Hey Hey we get one more nearly 70 degree day [14:19] Good morning, InHisName. [14:20] We weren't going for st patties day, really, and in fact neither of us had a drink all day... We went to check out a venue for fosscon, and so I could take crissi out for her birthday (which is weds) [14:20] cool [14:20] i got drunk [14:20] The train was already pretty full when we got on at norristown transportation center, and there were a couple hundred people at every single stop. [14:20] Eventually they stopped letting people on the train. [14:21] So we looked at the venue, then went to this gelato place on samson. [14:21] And this guy sticks his head in the window, and says something like "did you guys know theres no window here? someone could walk up and do whatever they wanted to you guys" [14:21] ChinnoDog: I see memory gobbling here too. Most of the pigging seems to be from Compiz. Firefox hogs more only because I keep opening up even more tabs than before. [14:22] and then goes on to tell everyone in the place what color green they were wearing, tells this dude on a laptop that he is only pretending to study and that his laptop probably has a virus, and blows everyone kisses before walking away. [14:22] nice [14:22] Then we went to dinner, then back to the train. [14:22] There was a fight on the train, and we got held at east falls for half an hour until the police came. 8 guys were fighting this one guy, because he didn't have hair. [14:23] And that was my saturday. [14:23] he had it coming [14:23] Obviously, thats what you get for not having hair. [14:24] here in Erie, most of our bars all lie on one street, State St. so for big holiday events like St Patties, most of the street gets locked down. like 8 blocks, just a huge sea of green shirts. [14:25] bars arent bad to get into, because it was so nice out everyone was outside. you go in, grab a drink, come out and hang out [14:25] of course, this is the way of st patties [14:26] drinking in the streets [14:30] yeah. [14:34] i want to learn more about hacking [14:34] specifically how to do it haha [14:34] i know the simple stuff, just never took time to try attacks [14:34] bruteforcing is easy enough [14:35] i have a 5GB password list file somewhere [14:35] but thats just script kiddie stuff...i want to learn about mysql attacks and php backdoors and stuff [14:35] just need the time and energy to do so [14:58] You're still young. You have gobs of spare time compared to us older time limited folks. [15:03] Indeed. [15:54] im 27 [15:54] thats old to me [15:56] compared to when i was 18 or 19 and had nothing to worry about besides school [15:56] adom: I'm really not much older than you. [15:58] see, old. :( [15:58] adom: my time is stolen by my children, though :) [15:58] In great huge gobs. [16:00] yeah i have that goin, no kids yet [16:01] i have a pitbull though. kinda like a kid. but poops outside. [16:09] Good that you got him trained or you'd have LOTS more work and time used. [16:13] haha [16:21] I had a great time being a batchelor (sp) until 41 when I got bored enough to want to be marriage. [16:21] Now having a great time being a foster parent, might keep that up till 85 if health holds up. [16:46] my gf lives with me, we're pretty much married [16:50] awww, poor guy no more singleness freedoms....... [17:39] hehe [18:32] nah, i was never much for the singleness freedoms [18:32] too lazy to hit on girls [18:33] then i was like "why dont i just keep a girlfriend nearby, then i dont have to work as hard!" [20:54] Good bacon to all! [20:55] sup baconator [20:55] nm [20:55] u? [20:55] Hai! [20:55] finishing my last 5 minutes of my work day [20:55] Hai! [20:55] Sadin, how goes the server hunt? [20:55] * Sadin has a book report to write :| [20:55] SamuraiAlba besides the funding part well haha [20:55] lol [20:56] oh and MutantTurkey said i could have the duel intel Xenon one if i get the money [20:56] Sadin: looking for a host? [20:56] ChinnoDog no i own a VPS i want to own my own server here at home. [20:57] Mutu having funding issues? [20:57] yea D: [20:57] Tell ya wot [20:57] he said i would put it to good use cause he knows me if i got it :3 so if i get the money he said i could buy it [20:57] $250+ship. I need to move it [20:58] Okay ill let my dad know [20:58] cool beans [20:58] run to the other room, stat! [21:18] nachos! [22:31] calling all users - we need a team reporter [22:31] If your team is not producing monthly reports, see this page to get your team started: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BuildingCommunity/TeamReporting [22:31] and we are not [22:32] and i am not [22:38] tsk tsk [22:39] jedijf, you have some 'splainin' to do [22:41] if I had a clone I'd have her work on a loco.ubuntu.com plugin to spit out team reports [22:41] alas :( [22:44] You're in CA. If you really mean 'her', do we have any of those left here in philly zone ? [23:05] ssweeny: what's to explain? [23:06] soemone /else/ needs to do /something/ [23:06] someone [23:06] hi [23:06] saw te post [23:06] a volunteer [23:07] yip [23:07] do it [23:07] the link should explain it [23:07] wrighting is NOT what i'm good at [23:07] check out the wiki, there were some done [23:07] that's ok [23:07] it's basically copy/paste work [23:07] but i can do two sentences a month [23:07] :) [23:08] exactly [23:08] ok [23:08] like this month we had the bugjam and the new logo poll would count [23:08] dude, actually...do whatever you like [23:09] just grep the info from the mailing list, forums, and website, link it up, follow the examples of previous [23:09] reports [23:09] if you need any help, just scream in here [23:10] tell your home school admin to put more emphasis on writing, and use this as the forum [23:12] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YOURTEAM/TeamReports [23:12] what is yourteam? [23:12] yes i AM going to do it [23:13] InHisName: it would be a more general team report generator for all teams (CA and PA!) [23:13] it's been discussed a bunch of times but no one has had the time for development [23:15] passstab: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PennsylvaniaTeam/TeamReports [23:16] passstab: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PennsylvaniaTeam/TeamReports/Current [23:16] CA? [23:16] passstab: focus [23:18] passstab: notice naming conventions on tr page and include (hit edit) on current [23:18] that's it, the secret sauce [23:18] ok [23:18] loging in [23:19] and you got this thru rss right? that was kinda pointed marketing on my point [23:19] s/point/part [23:24] yes [23:28] but i don't really need to do something til months end right? [23:28] or is need the operative word [23:30] passstab: yeah, but if it were me, i would do it at regular intervals, so the end of month isn't too daunting [23:30] ok [23:30] passstab: especially when you have 'events' that you know of to add [23:31] you never know... [23:31] :P [23:31] pleia2: feel free to offer advice [23:31] i mthink i can do it [23:32] passstab: and if you wanted a coding challenge and write us an event scraper and report updater, and it works, i bet i can get further adoption [23:32] just sayin' [23:35] when I was doing the PA reports I'd go to: http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/pennsylvania/events/history [23:36] see if there was anything in the past month, then add it to the report along with photos or blog posts I could find [23:36] then review the mailing list archives for that month too: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-us-pa/ [23:37] ok [23:38] jedijf is right that it's easier if you add stuff as they come though :) [23:39] the line is "event happened" ? [23:39] not "event happened and it was awesiome"? [23:39] I don't see a problem with getting creative about it :) [23:40] it's not so formal, you can even add some notes about it if you want [23:41] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TeamReports/February2012#Ubuntu_LoCo_Teams can see what other teams do
