[01:20] Well allright then. [01:20] who's on first? [01:20] yes [01:20] hey [01:20] your return happened to coincide with my firing up putty :) [01:20] do we have a quorem here? [01:21] let's call it 4 and say yes [01:21] putty? [01:21] terminal [01:21] not gnome-terminal? [01:21] windows [01:21] grrr [01:21] zomfg crucify me [01:21] blasphemy [01:22] I'm in different circumstances than I was in 5 years ago [01:22] I thought r2 and DaCeige were here. [01:22] artifact of just loggin in [01:23] you know you can run a real shell in cygwin? [01:24] yeah [01:24] I had it on my desktop [01:24] or even better, install colinux and have a pure linux/bash shell [01:24] currently I only run linux on my server [01:24] hmmm. [01:24] this is intriguing to me [01:25] actually, colinux I know I've heard of before, it's just been flippin' ages [01:25] I was running colinux years ago, and it was instrumental in me completely moving to linux [01:25] I run ubuntu now exclusively at home and at work, [01:26] even got wife and daughter on ubuntu. [01:26] yeah, I used ubuntu exclusively until I got my current desktop [01:26] bah [01:27] I'm sure colinux runs on W7...at least pretty sure :-) [01:27] I'm about to try it on vista [01:27] which is what's on my laptop [01:27] 7 is at home [01:27] dang, I can't wait to move out of metry [01:28] http://www.colinux.org/ [01:28] I'm in mandevill now, as of 2 years ago actually. [01:29] So who do you chat with in this channel? Only me :-) [01:29] in here? yeah [01:29] I chat with Rogers on gtalk [01:29] Is he a friend of yours? like outside of irc? [01:32] So there really is no more louisiana loco. [01:33] especially if the main channel op is running windows at home. We're doomed. [01:36] heh. [01:37] I suck at organization. But I wonder how we can revive. [01:37] Or if there is any interest. [01:37] I'm game [01:38] THere has to be more than 3 or 4 guys in a state of 4 million who are interested. [01:39] and who use irc [01:39] you know irc is awesome, and I know it is, but many do not [01:40] I remember back in 06/07 I was on a rampage about netflix. I was trying to stir an action on netflix to support linux, but everything I tried here, in other channels and elswhere seemed to fall on deaf ears. [01:40] and in the end they are on silverlight [01:40] :( [01:41] I gave that up, but my failed efforts eventually lead to me logging off of irc for quite some time. [01:41] you on g+ ? [01:41] maybe we start a g+ loco [01:41] that would be really cool. I am [01:41] something more people might take to [01:42] we can make a circle [01:42] maybe a hangout [01:42] yeah [01:42] I'm gmccrory@gmail.com [01:46] hello? [01:52] hey sorry [01:52] bio break? [01:52] beer break? [01:53] lol [01:53] I distract easily [01:53] sandwich break, now, though [01:53] I'll bbiaf [01:55] going pick up from down the street [01:55] rsdehart@gmail.com btw [01:55] I can't find you [01:57] I might be hidden [01:57] hmm. can;t find you either. [01:58] maybe this is a problem for google [02:00] there you are [02:04] So I wonder, how do we entice others to join the ubuntu loco g+ [02:08] zzz [02:12] hollar when you come back [02:16] procured [02:17] a sandwich? [02:20] yeah [02:27] a good sandwich? [02:28] quite [02:28] do you get a notice that I added you? [02:28] and considering it was ultimately free, fantastic. not yet [02:28] free sandwich? fill me in. [02:29] found a $10 bill on the floor [02:29] my and my friend's sandwiches were total $9.79 === haz3lnut is now known as haz3lnut_zzz [22:17] evening [22:25] howdy [22:28] peculiar action happened to me yesterday. I was capturing a stream from my hdhomerun, and I thought it was finished so I moved the file to another dir and tried to edit it, but it crapped out. Then I discovered it was still being written to and growing after I moved the file! [22:28] n the past, that stream would have been lost. But I ended up with the whole stream captured. [22:29] explanation? [22:36] hm [22:47] I don't know [22:47] see if you think this is plausible: [22:48] if the mv data rate was just a little slower than the stream capture rate, then the mv never completed until the whole capture was done? [22:48] seems unlinkely [22:49] or does the mv command stay alive if it sees more data entering the old file? seems strange. [22:50] I don't actually know the mechanics of mv [22:50] or the os is somehow smart now, and "knew" I moved the file, so it transfered the stream operation to the new file? more strangeness. [22:51] I'm really curious about this. [22:51] that one does seem unlikely [23:21] got my explanation: [23:22] t's normal behavior. Unless you moved the file to another filesystem, only the directory entry was modified, the open file was still the same from point of view of the program writing to it.
