[00:16] hello! [00:17] can anyone help me to get chromium to stop crashing when showing youtube videos? [00:39] !flash [00:39] To install Flash see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/Flash - See also !Restricted and !Gnash [00:39] Hmm [00:39] I don't know. I could always be a hardware issue. But I'm not very good at support [00:40] !Gnash [00:40] Gnash is an open-source Flash replacement. It is still beta software. For current status or for more info http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/ [00:40] will Gnash conflict with flash? I know I have flash installed already [00:42] You'd have to use either one [00:43] That is something I do know [00:44] well flash works just fine in firefox, so I don't think it's a hardware thing. Flash also worked in chromium when I was running ubuntu 10. [00:45] another wrinkle. video's play when I'm on youtube.com, but embedded videos on other sites result in the Aw, snap! page [02:18] Hello, I am doing a current events project for a class of mine, and I was hoping to get some advice on lubuntu. [02:19] I must do a current events project on Operating Systems, I need to know how the OS does file management, device management, memory management, application management. === KM0201 is now known as hello === hello is now known as KM0201 === christian is now known as Guest22773 [04:08] Hello === sagaci_ is now known as sagaci [10:56] not sure if this is the right place but i have set up firefox sync on my windows and lubuntu machines but it is not syncing my extensions [12:36] is the LSC supposed to be working on 12.04? [14:41] I have Lubuntu 10.04 and VIA chepset, how to improve video driver because default driver is not good? [15:41] hi [15:42] How can I set my lubuntu to show mounted devices on the desktop? can anyone help please? [16:13] OlMightyG: i would try http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=86 [16:17] How do I set up the default session that is started at boot? [16:25] holstein: just install thunar? [16:26] or alternatively: where else could i go for help? [16:26] OlMightyG: i have not tried to show those icons in LXDE.. i tend to try and stay close to the defaults. or at least start with the environment that works best for me out of the box [16:26] OlMightyG: i find that by the time i make LXDE more like XFCE (or whatever) that its not really light-weight anymore [16:26] so i shold try xubuntu hehe [16:26] you could try the lubuntu mailing list, or the lubuntu one stop thread in the lubuntu forums. I'm new to lubuntu as well, or I could probably be a better help. [16:27] nicofs: what are you wanting to do?... what customizations? [16:27] i just messed up the testing-system... great. [16:28] whats the difference between xfce and lxde? [16:28] xubuntu is nice, but i prefer the simplicity of Lubuntu, and it's setup with LXDE/Openbox [16:28] but i use a slow latop too, so lubuntu is a little faster for me [16:29] What's going on here? [16:29] yes. until now ive installed lubunut with nautilus to achieve the symbol-thing... [16:29] holstein, when i start my computer, the wrong session is loaded... I want "Lubuntu Desktop", but xsession tries (and fails) to start "Xubuntu Desktop" which is not installed and then, after i press "ok" starts some LXDE session... [16:30] nicofs: i had a few errors like that.. i ended up just leaving both LXDE and XFCE installed [16:30] but now i tried the new version and recognized that pcmanfm can deal smb-mounts now. but it does not show them on the desktop [16:31] holstein, not an option... i only have 4GB of HDD... i need every MB I can save... [16:32] nicofs: i guess you have to correct some entries in some files in the lxsession-folder [16:32] had a similar problem.... [16:32] but i dont know exactly how i fixed it.. long tome ago [16:32] nicofs: ok.. i couldnt track down what was missing or needed.. other than resintalling, you should likely just look through what is/was installed.. you can try another user accoung for troubleshooting.. you can try pure-lxde [16:33] OlMightyG, i figured that out aswell... but which files... that's the question... [16:35] hm.. sorry.. i cant remember. but i remember that ive googled it [16:40] hmm.. have been googling for some days now... maybe i used the wrong words... [16:45] nicofs; if you need every byte you can get, why install a gui? [16:47] do you have lxsession installed? [16:59] hi, how do i install lubuntu onto a sdcard [17:01] how do you do it? [17:01] just choose the SDcard as the target drive. [17:02] reaaly? it's that easy? I should try it then. [18:08] DarthBrady; and how is it going with the SD-card? [18:25] I cant find my SD Cards, I think I left them in my locker at work, so it hasn't gone anywhere today :( [18:26] That's to bad [18:27] i have a 1G micro sd laying here, i suppose i could try that if it's not too small, but i wasn't sure it if is. [18:28] Hmm, not sure DarthBrady [18:28] Maybe try with the minimal install then? [18:29] i might [18:29] and the --no-install-recommends lubuntu-desktop ? [18:29] or even slimmer, lubuntu-core. I think you will need more than 1G for lubuntu though :/ [18:30] MrChrisDruif: it doesn't install any recommended junk [18:30] no.. 1gig should do it i would think [18:31] i'll try it later and see how it goes [18:32] You could check installed size on packages.ubuntu.com I think [18:33] KM0201; I know, that is why I suggested it [18:33] do report back how you get on. I'm curious to know just how slim the 'low-fat' version(s) of lubuntu are :) [18:33] well i just popped the lubuntu install disc in, it asks for 4.1GB by default [18:34] DarthBrady: that is Ubiquity installer, there is an ongoing discussion about it. [18:34] DarthBrady; A known issue [18:36] Ah, I see. I always installed to a blank hdd with plenty of room, I never even paid attention to the required space needed as I wasn't worried about disc space ;) [18:37] required RAM and the speed I get from it were my concerns, and Lubuntu works very well with in those departments. But I will try it sometime this week when i get time to play with it. I have wanted a good USB/SD version for a while now... [19:29] DarthBrady: use alternate / mini install. For lubuntu we consider the 4.1GB default to be a 'bug', but it is there for 'main' ubuntu to stave off 2.3GB hell where it would install and leave no space for user data. [19:31] I'd go with mini [19:33] MrChrisDruif: for a 1GB SD, that is a +1 from me! [19:33] then try ubuntu core to see if we can manage it :) [19:35] s/ubuntu/lubuntu [19:37] I was wondering ^_^ [21:12] my wireless cuts out frequently on my Thinkpad t43p running Lubuntu 11.10 [21:12] How do I start it up again? [21:13] it is the notorious Intel ipw2200 [21:14] venik212: we use the standard WiFi system. head over to http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=336 They do work miracles over there :) [21:16] their solution is to install the Windows driver, which works fine on this hardware, but which I was unable to install using Lubuntu [21:17] XP never looked better... ;-( [21:18] !wifi [21:18] Wireless documentation, including how-to guides and troubleshooting information, can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs [21:18] I actually did install the Windows driver, but Lubuntu insisted on overwriting it with the ipw2200 junk === nothingspecial is now known as angela-android === angela-android is now known as nothingspecial === Riddelll is now known as Riddell
