canthus13that cpu seems... weak.00:05
canthus13and I haven't had luck with the newer mobile radeon chipsets. :/00:05
BiosElementAye, I agree on that front00:08
BiosElementFound a somewhat improved model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1683424632700:08
BiosElementBut with linux support slightly more in question heh00:08
canthus13my girlfriend has this, running Mint 12. (Windows barely boots on it)  http://www.technostarry.com/hardware/asus-x53u-sx013d-review/00:09
canthus13...but with the 1.6ghz brazos.00:09
BiosElementYeah, Asus is a bunch I like somewhat heh00:10
canthus13Funny thing.. the non-free video drivers don't work right on that machine. I had to roll back to the O/S ones.00:11
BiosElementSomewhat a pain when I demand a resonable build quality, dedicated graphics, linux support and a decent keyboard all in one >.>00:12
canthus13The build quality on that asus is... ok.00:12
canthus13for $399, it's not bad.00:12
BiosElementYep, that's asus for ya lol00:12
canthus13Everything worked OOB with Mint.  Win 7, otoh... Win 7 takes about 5 minutes to boot.00:13
BiosElementlmao wow00:14
canthus13about the only time she boots into windows now is for netflix.00:16
ronnocBiosElement: For a good looking deal (and better ADM processor) might have a look at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246300&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL033012&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL033012-_-EMC-033012-Index-_-LaptopsNotebooks-_-34246300-L0D00:31
BiosElementQuite nice actually heh00:32
ronnocindeed00:32
ronnoc*AMD00:33
BiosElementDecided to order http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1683424632700:44
BiosElementHopefully I won't regret the sucker heh00:44
canthus13better video chipset, for sure.00:47
BiosElementAye, it'll just be a PITA to get running on linux. But apparently they fixed that issue00:48
ronnocBiosElement: nice01:01
Cheri703rawr04:53
Unit193Heyhey, bad week it seems.04:53
Cheri703LONG week04:54
Cheri703bored and hungry and antsy tonight04:54
Cheri703hungry part taken care of :)05:39
ronnocHi Cheri703. Hope you are enjoying the weekend :)06:07
Cheri703thanks, mine just started tonight, I worked til 11pm06:07
Cheri703off sunday/monday06:07
ronnocnice. well..let the festivities commence!06:08
Cheri703indeed! I have a ton of crap to do :/06:09
ronnocI'd love to have Mondays off. So much easier to get errands done, etc.06:09
Cheri703yeah, my old shift was tues/weds off, which was dumb, sun/mon works nicely06:09
ronnocyea that would be perfect for me as well06:09
Cheri703I hate the job, but the shift is good :)06:10
Cheri703once my book arrives on monday, I am starting to study for the CompTIA Security+ exam :) hoping to take it by the end of april or sometime in may06:11
ronnocNot too many people are blessed with a job they love.06:11
Cheri703I'm working on it06:11
ronnocOh nice! Is it hard to pass?06:12
Cheri703not as far as I can tell06:12
Cheri703I got a book that comes very highly recommended, yay amazon06:12
ronnoc\m/06:12
ronnocAre there any plans (tentative or not) regarding Ohio Linux Fest this year?06:13
Cheri703I have no idea. I couldn't go last year due to finances/transportation06:13
Cheri703I'd imagine something will get worked out, I'm hoping it will06:13
ronnocI'm going to go. Was talking to BiosElement earlier. There's a new KDE-USA group with a few members in Ohio who want to attend also. I might look at seeing if it makes sense to pool resources...06:14
ronnocIf anything needs done organizing, etc, lemme know06:15
Unit193Cheri703: You went Kubuntu didn't you?06:16
Cheri703had been planning to, but stuck with ubuntu proper...still working out the kinks with unity...06:16
Unit193Unity is better in 12, so I hear.06:17
ronnocIt appears to be gaining some love and polish. I check it out now and again and keep an eye on development06:19
ronnoci also use the USC in Kubuntu06:19
ronnocand Ubuntu One06:19
Unit193I don't like USC, Unity, or Gnome*. :P06:20
ronnocUnit193: Well, if Desura worked worth a &*%^ in Qt/KDE, I'd ditch USC. Brings in a lot of GTK stuff that is not otherwise needed.06:21
ronnocBut really I just like to keep abreast of what's all going on with Corporate06:21
ronnocWhich begs the ?... is Ubuntu TV already dead? lol.... That....Fizzled....06:23
BiosElementHonestly, Unity didn't seem at all better.06:31
Unit193Than shell?06:32
Unit193I know a few that like Shell.06:32
BiosElementThen Kubuntu. >.>06:33
Unit193Heh, but you like Kubuntu.06:33
Unit193I know a fair number that wouldn't touch it, but think KDE isn't so bad.06:33
Unit193I don't hav the hardware to run it either way.06:35
BiosElementHeh having fun getting a laptop :|06:38
ronnocKDE 4.8 is pretty solid. I love it for it's ability to be mass-customized. I don't think I could ever seriously go to Unity for that reason alone.06:44
BiosElementI ran into a huge wall with unity's workflow06:44
ronnocAnd actually, KDE's Activities are pretty revolutionary when one "gets it". It's the ultimate workflow companion IMHO.06:45
ronnocYea, unity seems like an impediment to enabling the ability to get things done06:45
