[01:16] bkerensa, happy birthday! :D [02:54] c_smith: thanks [02:54] FYI Ubuntu Oregon ZNC Server is being upgraded to Ubuntu Server 12.04 Beta 2 (Instability may result but unlikely based my experience so far) [02:57] bkerensa, then should I login to the Freenode server until the upgrade is done? [02:58] c_smith: nah its currently happening right now [02:58] with any lucky it should occur transparently [02:58] :) [02:58] I will restart it during a non-peak hour at some point tomorrow perhaps 4am [02:58] cool, then I take it the server will need to be restarted? or is that something that usually only needs to happen on PCs? [02:59] c_smith: it will require a reboot ^ [02:59] but I do my reboots usually between 2am - 4am PST [03:00] cool, not likely going to be on tonight at that time, but come tomorrow, I will have an essay to do, and gotta do it before 8AM the next day, I hate essays.... [03:01] and it's a college argument essay. [03:02] I AM A GREAT AND EXTREMELY MODEST PERSON WHICH IS WHY YOU SHOULD PULL THAT STICK OUT YOUR ASS AND STOP BANNING ME FROM CAMPUS GROUNDS YOU ADMINISTRATIVE PRICK [03:03] * cy1 clearly is going places [03:03] wtf? [03:03] It's my college entrance essay, to wile them into accepting moi. [03:03] cy1, not even sure what you are talking about. [03:03] oh. I see. [03:04] college... argument essay? uh... [03:04] I am going to be without power almost all afternoon tomorrow [03:04] :( [03:04] that sucks, [03:04] :/ [03:04] have a electrician swapping out every receptacle in our place [03:04] and the entire break box [03:04] Wow, what brought that on? [03:05] so... yeah Pac Power even has to turn off our pole power [03:05] cy1: uhh I would call it having a landlord who has not done his duties over the years to maintain one of his properties [03:05] and our power happened to nuke out the other day [03:05] bkerensa: obviously all your fault somehow [03:06] electrician came out and said lots of things were not up to code and had to be brought up to code ASAP to prevent a Arc from occuring in the walls and our place from burning to the ground [03:06] :D [03:06] my landlord then tried to play off the electricians comments as a option suggestion for improvements [03:06] :D [03:06] optional* [03:06] c.C [03:07] see that's why the concept of land ownership is fundamentally absurd. [03:07] I told my landlord that the electrician said the place is not in compliance with code and could be condemned and shortly thereafter he authorized the electrician to carry out a full overhaul [03:07] because it's only jerks who get to own any of it! [03:07] :D [03:07] landlord then informed me he was doing this because "we are such good people" [03:07] And why did my server accidentally the everything D:< [03:07] epic fail [03:07] :P [03:08] Man I freaking hate Linux memory management. [03:08] I just have no luck w/ it. [03:09] Either my programs die because my arbitrary memory limit was too low, since there's no way to measure that stuff [03:10] cy1: how much memory do you have? [03:10] or else I run a program that just reads files into a buffer giving up the buffer for garbage collection every time, and it consumes all memory and $computer freezes. [03:10] I dunno like 2 gigabytes. [03:11] Yeah a hard reset... feh. [03:11] At least I've got it mostly headless to start up. [03:11] cy1: amd64 or i386? [03:12] bkerAMD [03:12] bkerensa: AMD [03:12] I have 6GB of DDR3 on amd64 and never really run into issues memory or CPU wise [03:12] I don't have 6GB of memory slots. [03:12] I see [03:13] Besides, more memory doesn't do anything if the kernel doesn't stop programs from consuming memory until it goes into a spinloop and dies. [03:13] They'll just eat that memory too. [03:14] cy1: well I do crunching which is pretty memory and CPU intensive and memory management seems solid enough to manage that without lagging any other applications on my system [03:14] The fact that I can kill almost any Linux machine just by displaying the PNG of Doom and it's been that way for years, just irritates me to death. [03:14] usually I'm crunching like 4 or five DC projects simultaneous [03:15] It's more in the lack of limits on memory acquisition then repeated memory use... [03:16] * c_smith will go off to get something to eat since he forgot to eat dinner [03:17] I mean here's the program: http://pastebin.com/Pr3jsrXG [03:17] Clearly a very devious and unexpected application, not straightforward at all. [03:21] c_smith: I'm nuking znc real quick [03:21] :D [03:26] :D [04:08] =o [05:54] hello mechanizedmedic [05:54] hi [05:55] ...ive never used irc before so i thought i'd give it a shot. :) [05:57] mechanizedmedic: excellent [05:57] mechanizedmedic: have you been to any of our events? [05:57] :D [05:59] g'night all [05:59] bkerensa: nope. i probably should have. [06:00] mechanizedmedic: We have a event coming up this month for the 12.04 release [06:00] more info is here http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-us-or/1609/detail/ [06:03] bkerensa: oh cool! do you do any workshops? [06:03] mechanizedmedic: Not yet but we are working with FreeGeek to bring some workshops there this summer [06:07] bkerensa: i've been really eager to learn to do more with linux. i've been "converted" for a few years but haven't taken the time to learn some of the things i've wanted. [21:54] man it's quiet today [21:54] hey people... coffee bar is thataway [23:08] here's some noise .... java-- java-- java-- [23:16] pour me a cup of that [23:29] indeed [23:37] on top of putting everyone in fear of their jobs, the coffee bar was closed today. boo [23:37] just the black and oily for me
