psusiatpa8a, maybe, but it should still work on the fakeraid00:00
OffGridOpsIt's been hung on Setting Update "run_key" quite awhile now is that normal?00:01
OffGridOpsjust a white cursur flashing00:01
atpa8apsusi: the partitioner only shows 'Configure iSCSI Volumes' and nothing else00:01
atpa8athat's the problem00:01
atpa8aif i cannot pick one of the existing LVs00:02
atpa8abut!00:02
atpa8aif i go into the shell and do lvs, i can see my volumes00:02
atpa8ai cannot pick one of the existing LVs"00:03
penguin42atpa8a: I think because it's oopsing during part of the parted detect process00:03
atpa8apenguin42: that's what it looks like00:03
atpa8ais there a flag i can set and mount my volume on /root for the installer to skip the parted process?00:04
psusiit certainly shouldn't be OOPSing, but mdadm also shouldn't be trying to touch the fakeraid00:04
penguin42atpa8a: Well I thought in the debian installer you can get to the point where it will give you a menu of each step fo the installer - it's painful but it lets you skip a step if you can get the equivalent00:05
psusidmraid is supposed to handle that after the installer prompts you to activate detected ataraids...00:05
itaylor57OffGridOps, do a ctrl c on the command and then type sudo service lightdm restart00:05
penguin42psusi: But looking at the oops it happens during parted and after the md raid has come up; so I'm assuming it's triggered by some detection that parted is doing00:06
atpa8apsusi: it doesn't00:06
atpa8apenguin42: even when i'm doing that step by step in "expert" mode, it doesn't let me to skip parted00:07
psusiatpa8a, did you get the prompt about ataraid asking if you want to activate?00:08
atpa8ayes00:11
atpa8aand i say 'yes'00:11
penguin42what happens if you say no?00:11
atpa8ain the installer... the same, i don't have any volumes in parted00:13
atpa8ai can reboot and check if i get the oops00:13
penguin42atpa8a: Well, if there are two options it's normally worth trying both :-)00:15
psusiwell, there is currently a packaging but that prevents the server and alternate cds from working right when you say yes, because the dmraid drivers are missing00:15
atpa8aso... i should say no?00:15
atpa8athen what? activate it manually?00:16
psusino... probably two bugs... the fakeraid missing drivers bug, and then at some later point something you are doing must be asking mdadm to activate anything it can and it tries to activate the fakeraid since it now supports intel as well, and there's a kernel bug causing it to OOPS00:16
atpa8adoesn't it mean that whatever answer i choose the problem will be the same?..00:17
psusiyes.. you'll need to wait for the fakeraid missing drivers to be fixed00:17
psusior stop using fakeraid ;)00:17
atpa8ayeah :P00:17
psusiI'd suggest that one if you don't need to dual boot with windows... fakeraid is bad mojo00:17
penguin42psusi: Is there someone that oops should be pointed out to, or is the current state of it enough?00:18
atpa8aand i was hoping... "oh great! now i get emails from mdadm if my fakeraid fails!"00:19
psusipenguin42, it would be good if you could figure out how to reproduce it on an actual install with an upstream kernel00:19
psusiatpa8a, best just to use mdadm all together.. fakeraid's only advantage is it works with windows00:19
penguin42psusi: It's difficult with atpa8a only getting it during the install00:19
psusipenguin42, indeed...00:19
penguin42psusi: but it's a pretty complete oops he's captured00:20
atpa8aalright :) pvmove back and destroy fakeraid00:20
atpa8acan report in the morning :P00:20
penguin42yeh, time for bed here - it's getting cold!00:20
atpa8anight! :) he's gone!00:21
atpa8apsusi: thanks!00:21
* psusi looks for that line of code00:21
atpa8aif i destroy fakeraid, i won't get the problem :P00:22
atpa8awon't be of help :)00:22
psusihrm... looks like the bug is the result of an attempt to update the external metadata while the array is flagged read only00:23
psusiI was wondering why when I tried using mdadm to activate a fakeraid array, it kept insisting that it be read-only00:23
* psusi fires off an email to linux-raid mailing list00:24
atpa8apsusi: i guess i can keep (after destroy and a new install) the ataraid for a bit00:37
atpa8aor... are you saying that if i nuke the md0, i'll only have the dmraid and all be kosher?00:38
atpa8athat's the quickest thing i can test actually...00:43
atpa8apsusi: note, that the board is supermicro and cpu is xeon... not some cheapo system00:44
plaHi. I just installed 12.04 beta 2. Why does it ask to go through a partial upgrade when I start-up the Update Manager?00:44
psusiatpa8a, the md0 is neither here nor there afaik... it's the fakeraid that's the problem00:45
atpa8adoesn't make sense to nuke the md0, you mean?00:45
psusiatpa8a, unless md0 is the fakeraid, no00:50
atpa8anah, md0 is that, md001:16
atpa8amd linux software raid101:16
spaceneedleMy laptop seems to me to be snappier after a kernel update.  However, I can't stand it when the words up in the corner get mixed with the global menu .01:16
atpa8aheeey01:33
atpa8ait does look like dmraid bug01:33
atpa8atried 11.10 again with the purpose of upgrading and hitting the same bug01:34
atpa8aand as i think about it... the previous installs were successful because i didn't have the ataraid configured01:34
atpa8aso it isn't precise specific it seems01:35
atpa8a(tho it does still seem installer specific)01:36
atpa8agoan confirm01:37
atpa8apvmove back to md0, remove the ataraid array and see if that solves it01:37
PhotoJimI've lost my window title bars and borders... google's not helpful.  Fix?02:20
PhotoJim(Precise but with Gnome desktop)02:21
PhotoJimbrb, going to see if the problem persists with Unity02:23
PhotoJimWorks fine with Unity.  Hmm.02:25
PhotoJimalt-tab doesn't work in Gnome either, but I see it works fine in Unity.02:34
snadgei have to use gnome classic (no effects) to get decent performance out of my radeon 787002:35
snadge120fps in minecraft.. if i do that02:35
snadge20fps when using unity2d.. 40fps with compiz02:35
snadgesucks02:35
snadgeshould've waited and got something nvidia based.. problem was i wanted the new 28nm generation, and nvidia only have the gtx680 atm02:36
PhotoJimATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 in this02:37
PhotoJimI have to say, the open source driver in Precise works great.  I couldn't get the proprietary driver to install previously, and on this version, I don't care.02:38
PhotoJimthis is a first-gen i7 laptop... pretty happy with it still,  Ihave to say.02:39
DropsOfSerenityis there any way to make the notification on the launcher jump at u constantly until you click it? like how it would behave on a mac?03:04
DropsOfSerenityfor example, say I get a message in empathy, I want it to keep bouncing03:04
DropsOfSerenityalso I use the launcher with autohide, so basically I'd like notifications to be more noticable.03:04
Prez00so how is beta 2 looking?04:43
Prez00any show stoppers?04:43
Prez00I have my secondary machine here, ready for some bleeding edge stuff.. I can take a little pain, but not a lot, beta 2 good for that?04:43
snadgei installed the alpha without even asking that04:50
kotahello everyone04:51
snadgehow could it be any worse than 11.10 ;)04:51
Prez00well05:01
Prez00update time then05:01
Prez00let's try it out05:01

jeremiah_??06:10
jeremiah_don't understand06:11
nathwillyou could also try oracle java... if neither of those is working, i'd suggest trying here.06:12
nathwillhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/5558/how-can-i-install-minecraft#556506:12
jeremiah_but with java 7- it crashes06:14

* bkerensa dances06:17
snadgeto fix java 7 crashing with minecraft.. you need up update lwjgl06:22
snadgei personally just use oracle java 1.6u3106:23
snadgebecause i can both run minecraft.. and compile android ;)06:23
nathwillle sigh. too late snadge, jeremiah_ already ragequit06:23

GeorgeJDoes CompizConfig no long affect the way unity works?06:34
GeorgeJI've just installed 12.04 and cannot switch between workspaces like I used to in 11.10.06:34
nathwillgeorgej, using ctrl+alt+arrowkey?06:35
nathwillthat was changed for a while, but then changed back.06:35
nathwillit's currently working in my fully-updated system like it always has06:35
GeorgeJnathwill: That switches workspaces, however not in the way it does on 11.10.06:35
nathwill?06:36
GeorgeJI get the old workspace switching widget.06:36
snadgehmm.. super-w chucks a spastic the first time you use it06:36
snadgeanyone else noticed that?06:36
GeorgeJGive me a second, I'll try to provide a screenshot.06:36
GeorgeJErm, how can one take a screenshot from the terminal? Pressing print screen doesn't work while pressing alt+shift06:38
GeorgeJNvm, hold on06:38
nathwillscrot!06:39
GeorgeJIs there a lighter weight photo editor than gimp?06:39
Myrttidepending on what you're looking for in it06:42
GeorgeJHere's how the workspace switcher works: http://i42.tinypic.com/20fdfsn.png06:44
GeorgeJis shown as*06:44
GeorgeJAlso control+alt+shift+arrow does not move the current window.06:45
nathwillhrm06:45
nathwillgeorgej, are you fully upgraded?06:45
GeorgeJnathwill: Indeed I am, apt-get updated and apt-get dist-upgrade shows no updates06:45
nathwilli'm running unity 5.8.0-0ubuntu2, works for me...06:46
nathwillhrm06:46
nathwillcurious if this is a good time for unity --reset06:46
GeorgeJAfter having downloaded CompizConfig the unity plugin wasn't even enabled, and the keybinds in the desktop wall are prefixed with <Control><Primary><Alt>ArrowKey06:47
GeorgeJAs far as I can tell <Primary> is the left control key, however, I tried that combination and nothing happens.06:47
nathwillwell... messing with compiz settings in unity can break things...06:49
nathwillif you don't mind losing some tweaking, i'd try a unity --reset06:49
GeorgeJIt didn't appear to do anything, it resetted, compiz crashed and it didn't recover.06:52
GeorgeJDoing another unity --reset did the same thing06:53
GeorgeJIt complained that it does not have the GLX extension on display :006:53
GeorgeJDoes that mean OpenGL is missing? Or something of the sorts?06:53
nathwilliinteresting06:57
GeorgeJI find this rather odd, since everything worked in 11.1006:59
GeorgeJIf missing OpenGL it should fall back to unity 2d, correct? How can I check if it's really running unity3d?06:59
nathwillworking for me fine in 12.04... did you maybe upgrade from 11.10? curious if old compiz tweaks carried over06:59
snadgeps aux |grep compiz07:00
GeorgeJnathwill: I did at first, I encountered a LOT of issues, flickers, crashes, so I formatted and installed 12.04.07:01
nathwillgotcha07:01
GeorgeJCompiz doesn't seem to be running07:01
snadgeps x |grep metacity07:01
GeorgeJYup, metacity is running.07:02
snadgeso you may not have 3d then07:02
snadgeespecially if you selected unity session from the login manager07:02
nathwillsnadge, is the screen he linked to earlier the default desktop switching modal in unity-2d? i've never actually used 2d...07:03
GeorgeJsnadge: The login prompt provides me with a choice between Unity and Unity2d. I chose Unity07:03
GeorgeJnathwill: I believe it is.07:03
snadgeyes.. thats metacity07:04
snadgewhich unity2d uses.. thats how it switches desktop.. is more primitive than compiz07:04
nathwillinteresting.07:04
snadgeso its likely to be a driver related issue07:04
nathwillty for the info07:04
snadgeif you are running nouveau instead of nvidia.. this is likely to be the problem07:05
snadgecheck what gpu you have.. likely to be one of either intel, amd, nvidia07:05
snadgemost likely one of the latter two07:05
snadgebecause intel just works ;)07:05
GeorgeJsnadge: I see, the problem is that I've got a relatively new laptop an Assus 5750G, and it has 2 graphics cards.07:05
snadgeacer aspire?07:06
GeorgeJIt has an on-chip intel and an nvidia, there's a technology they call "Optimus" to switch between the two.07:06
GeorgeJsnadge: yes07:06
GeorgeJAcer, sorry*07:06
snadgeahaha07:06
snadgei think optimus has broken support in linux .. but i could be wrong07:06
GeorgeJYes, in 11.10, I had to install a separate utility to disable the nvidia card, however, even if I didn't install that, Unity3d would run properly.07:07
snadgehttp://askubuntu.com/questions/107475/nvidia-optimus-geforce-gt-540m-not-recognised-as-a-proprietary-driver07:08
snadgeright i can find information with regards to ubuntu 11.1007:08
snadgei can see that nvidia proprietary driver has no less than 3 options07:09
snadgenvidia-173/updates , nvidia-96/updates and nvidia-current/updates07:10
snadgesorry thats 6 drivers07:10
snadgeand on top of that.. you can probably install drivers from nvidia's website07:11
snadgepresuming you have been here also: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia07:11
nathwillnight all07:12
GeorgeJsnadge: Tbh, I wouldn't mind disabling my nvidia card.07:13
GeorgeJlspci finds both cards.07:13
GeorgeJgeorge@Gokubuntu:~$ lspci | grep VGA07:13
GeorgeJ00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)07:13
GeorgeJ01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 540M] (rev a1)07:13
snadgeyeah im not sure how to best deal with that particular hardware07:13
snadgemaybe you can force using the intel driver.. and just ignore the nvidia part07:14
snadgemaybe you have to explicitly disable the nvidia part somehow07:14
snadgemaybe its best to use the nvidia driver which will handle power saving.. and switching between the automatically07:14
GeorgeJsnadge: So basically, the problem is that unity falls back to 2d mode because it can find no OpenGL driver, correct?07:14
snadgeright07:16
snadgeyou can determine what graphics driver you're using by looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log07:16
snadgethe intel chip should still support enough 3d to be able to run compiz07:17
GeorgeJsnadge: It does, under 11.10 anyway.07:17
snadgehttp://geek.co.il/wp/2012/02/19/nvidia-optimus-on-ubuntu-12-0407:17
snadgethat article has some useful information on how to configure 12-04 to use both07:18
snadgebut you could perhaps skip most of that if you wern't interested in the nvidia part07:20
GeorgeJsnadge: I was just reading that, thanks for the link.07:25
triptecwhen I start my fresh install of ubuntu the screen is just some strange lines but I can ssh into it, so I was wondering if someone might have a look at my syslog and maybe tell me what's wrong?07:32
GeorgeJsnadge: Thank you, that guide is a tad outdated. Bumblebee now has full packages for 12.04 and everything works after installing bumblebee and rebooting.08:01
GeorgeJSadly, there's a problem that persists since 11.10. I can't turn the brightness down using the function keys, the HUD appears but the brightness doesn't change.08:02
GeorgeJI can change it however by echoing a value in /sys/class08:02
GeorgeJAlso, at the login screen, the resolution is really low and the sides of the screen remain black.08:06
gain_hi all08:15
gain_no vinagre by default in 12.04?08:16
IlyaVoyagerhi there. I've just installed gwibber-service-flickr and gwibber-service-vkontakte (from ppa). However, when I'm trying to add a new account, I only see standard options: twitter, facebook, identica. No Flickr, no Vkontakte. I restarted gwibber. When I open "Accounts" dialog, it says (in the console), that it's loading plugin for flickr and vkontakte (among others).08:40
IlyaVoyagerIs it a bug I should report or something wrong from my side?08:40
edgyHi, the time appears in utc, how can I let it appear in localtime as before?08:41
triptecit seems I got a problem with nouveau, is there an alternative, I'd just need the console to work08:48
iceroottriptec: tty1?08:57
triptecwell, something works, if I ctrl+alt+del it print's out that the services are shutting down etc, but I don't get the grub menu and I can't log in, have to login with ssh08:59
triptecthere's just a yellow blinking marker08:59

markitc10ud: use Free as in freedom drivers, radeon.11:51
c10udmarkit, problem is, sometimes i like to play games (e.g. wine)11:51
markitmy children play games too (but only Free ones, no wine here) and work quite well11:52
c10udand last time i used an ATi card with ubuntu (2yrs ago), i went to the local shop and buy nvidia11:52
markitlike xonotic11:52
markitnvidia is not collaborative with Free software, I prefer not buy it11:53
c10udthat's a matter of choice, btw i am seeing that what i am willing to buy could actually be worse than my current video card (lol)11:55
MarKsaitishow do I upgrade 11.04 64bit to the newest 12 LTS?12:06
topylivia 11.1012:07
MarKsaitishow do I upgrade myself to 11.10? im running inside openvz and have no access to host12:08
ironhalikupdate-manager -d12:10
ironhaliktwice12:10
icerootMarKsaitis: you cant update in openvz that easy12:10
icerootas we said already12:10
MarKsaitiscan I not12:11
ironhalikworked for me in xen :>12:11
MarKsaitiswhat do I need to do then?12:11
MarKsaitis:)12:11
ikoniaxen is not openvz12:11
MarKsaitisshould I just try it?12:11
ironhaliktrue12:11
MarKsaitiswhat the command to show my current version? im gonna give it a go12:11
ikoniano12:11
ikoniatalk to your provider12:11
MarKsaitisok12:11
icerootMarKsaitis: i am not an openvz expert but there was something with the shared kernel12:11
ikoniaMarKsaitis: if you don't even know how to see your current version you should not do it12:11
ikoniaMarKsaitis: talk to your provider12:11
icerootMarKsaitis: cat /etc/issue12:12
MarKsaitisI know uname--all, but thats it12:12
MarKsaitisthanx12:12
icerootMarKsaitis: and dont!!!!! run 12.04 on a server which is reachable trough the net12:12
MarKsaitiscan I do that after it's released then?12:12
icerootMarKsaitis: not on the normal way12:12
icerootMarKsaitis: because its openvz12:12
MarKsaitiswhat's wrong with openvz?12:13
ikoniaMarKsaitis: talk to your provider12:13
icerootMarKsaitis: as said already, the shared kernel12:13
ikoniaMarKsaitis: that is the only advice to get - talk to your provider12:13
MarKsaitisok12:13
MarKsaitisI don't even have update-manager :)12:14
icerootMarKsaitis: imo it is do-release-upgrade12:14
iceroot-d12:14
MarKsaitis:D ok12:14
icerootbut dont do that12:14
icerootit will break your system and it will not boot12:14
MarKsaitisserver is empty, can reinstall in seconds12:14
icerootbecause kernel modules are not matching the kernel12:14
MarKsaitisim gonna test it12:14
icerooti have told you....12:15
MarKsaitisok :)12:15
ikoniaMarKsaitis: is there something about "don't do it it won't work" you are not understanding ?12:15
icerootits like "dont press the red button"12:16
MarKsaitisit is :D12:16
ikoniaI actually don't find it funny12:17
ikoniaI find it pretty rude12:17
icerootMarKsaitis: have a look at wikipedia what openvz is12:17
ikonia"hey guys, I don't know what I'm doing, I need help"12:17
ikonia"don't do that it will cause you problems"12:17
icerootMarKsaitis: and what is special about the kernel12:17
MarKsaitisiceroot, I am already reading :)12:17
ikonia"ok, I'm going to try it"12:17
ikoniawhat's the point of asking for help if you just ignore it and carry on12:17
markitMarKsaitis: btw, if you are interested in openvz have a look at proxmox project (http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Main_Page )12:17
MarKsaitisikonia, im not doing it :)12:17
ikoniathen why do you keep saying you will ?12:18
MarKsaitisI know what openvz does, is just that I don't know why new kernel cant talk to abit older modules12:18
icerootMarKsaitis: ok12:18
icerootMarKsaitis: read what the kernel is12:18
icerootMarKsaitis: and what modules are12:18
icerootMarKsaitis: and how they are build12:18
MarKsaitisthey are built with kernel source12:18
MarKsaitisI sort of understand, but it's a shame I can't do a release upgrade :)12:19
icerootMarKsaitis: then use a better virtualisation-tool12:19
ikoniawhatever12:19
ikonia"talk to your hosting provider"12:19
MarKsaitisthats fine, anyways thanx for the imput :) I will contact the supplier and ask whether they are going to upgrade their kernel to the new ubuntu one and whether they can help migrate me12:20
icerootMarKsaitis: and think about the point "12.04 is not stable"12:21
MarKsaitisI mean when it will be released12:21
icerootthat should end any discussion about an upgrade on a production-server12:21

eye-gorsteveccc: What version on there now15:23
steveccc10.0415:23
eye-gorsteveccc: home could be a problem due to the hidden .config files especially compiz and gnome. This is due to Unity settings15:24
eye-gorsteveccc: can conflict with old settings for compiz etc15:25
steveccceye-gor: its mainly for data files so could trash all config files15:25

steveccceye-gor: not tried it - one of the reasons for upgrading15:27
eye-gorsteveccc: Yep just keep it upto date with apt-get update and upgrade. Update manager not good during dev as it can offer partial upgrade that can bork your system15:27

ubottuTo just use java you need a "Java Runtime Environment" (JRE) and/or a browser plugin. If that is not sufficient you will need a "Java Development Kit" (JDK) aka "Software  Development Kit" (SDK).  Please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java about how to install one of three current implementations.16:47

Dr_willisso use the package manager and remove java7, and install that java6 package mentioned above.17:54

codencrazyArtemis3, I know my way around, but not familiar with everything yet as I could be19:15
Artemis3omit, splash if for pretty logo, and vt.7 thingie for pretty background...19:15
Artemis3well no also works i guess19:15
codencrazyArtemis3, where would I find the vt.7 thingie? I don't see anything in /etc/default/grub that mentions vt19:16
ironhalikguy, got a little problem: http://paste.ubuntu.com/916435/19:16
Artemis3ah good then :)19:16
Dr_willisI thought theres some default option to switch to vt.7 in the kernel options in /etc/default/grub19:16
Artemis3it is vt.handoff=7 i think19:17
Dr_willisnot sure what it really does. i think it makes the animation look better by switching to that tty early in the boot process19:17
Dr_willisArtemis3,  that looks like it.19:17
codencrazystill no grub, using noquiet, nosplash, nofb19:17
Dr_willisif you are doing a 'text' console only boot. i recall needing to remove that.19:17
Artemis3it paints a pretty colored background, or tries to...19:17
Dr_williscodencrazy,  those would not affect grub.19:17
Dr_willisthose are kernel options. after grub is loaded  for the kernel to use when booting up19:18
Artemis3purple i think19:18
Dr_willisHot Pink. :)19:18

jtayloryou need a 32 bit libpulsedsp.so then too21:16
epodjtaylor, okay, how do I get me one of those?21:16
jtaylorepod: apt-get install libpulsedsp:i386 might work21:16
epodjtaylor, it did, perfectly, thanks!  I thought I'd taken care of everything by installing multiarch.  Guess not! :)21:18

epodOkay, one other thing, purely cosmetic.  I installed the AMD drivers, and now I have text only mode on boot/shutdown.  Is there any way to get the nice graphical boot/shutdown screens back?21:20
zoffixI'm freaking out though... I go to Disk Manager to start my RAID array (two disks, mirror), but it tells me "not enough components". I do see the two disks in disk manager. Any idea?21:20

AprogasI have read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/Linksys%20WUSB600N which has instructions on how to alter the Ralink driver and compile it yourself, yet it says it doesn't work on 11.04 and that the 2.5.0.0 Ralink driver (which is the one on their website) causes kernel oopses.21:37

penguin42atpa8a: You should have qemu-kvm installed22:20
penguin42atpa8a: that is for x86 virtualistion22:20
atpa8ahmm22:21
atpa8apenguin42: interesting... the dependencies for xen-hypervisor pulled qemu-keymaps22:22
penguin42atpa8a: Hmm, the keymaps bits of stuff are probably shared across all the qemu variations at a guess22:22
atpa8ahmm22:23
atpa8aif i apt-get purge qemu-keymaps, it doesn't want to uninstall anything else22:23
penguin42atpa8a: hmm not sure I'm not sure about that; still if you install qemu-kvm it should get you all you need22:24

psusiatpa8a, which are you using, qemu or xen?22:33
atpa8axen22:34
psusithen what's qemu got to do with it?22:34
atpa8axen uses qemu22:34
psusihrm... I think it borrowed some source code from it for the hvm hardware virtualization, but I don't think it uses it directly22:35
atpa8atrue22:35
atpa8aand it seems lately it only uses the keymaps22:36
atpa8ahence the switch to qemu-keymaps instead of qemu-kvm package22:36
atpa8aqemu-keymaps creates /usr/share/qemu-linaro instead of /usr/share/qemu22:37

penguin42atpa8a: Where did you get the xen packages from?22:43
psusiI don't see qemu anything listed in the deps for the xen packages...22:43
* penguin42 notes I should have read xen again and of course qemu-kvm is for kvm!22:43
psusiof course, I'm on oneiric, so maybe it changed in precise22:44
glosoliAnyone got an idea what can be wrong with new install and fully upgraded with Ubuntu Beta 2 that Gnome SHell uses cpu 20 percentage all the time22:50
AprogasAn idea sure, but nothing to back it up: Gnome Shell might not depend on events/interrupts and have a "while 1" main loop with a short sleep, i.e. program just keeps running at full speed even when there is nothing to do.22:54

zoffixAnyone using quicksynergy on a dual-monitor system?23:03
zoffixThey broke something (or maybe it's my KDE instead of Gnome) and no activating quicksynergy on one monitor, makes both monitors react :S23:03
zoffixI guess at this point I should be asking "what other apps do the same thing as [quick]synergy" :(23:04
penguin42zoffix: I'm using quicksynergy between two one monitor systems23:06
zoffixpenguin42, then you probably don't have my problem. If I setup right edge of my right monitor to be connectable by other machine, I can't switch to my left monitor, because its edge also becomes "connectable". Basically two monitors behave as one, as far as quicksynergy is concerned.23:07
zoffixI didn't have this problem on 10.04 with Gnome...23:07
* zoffix now feels upgrading was a stupid idea.23:07

epodthe text screen is scary and ugly.23:08
AprogasUsually in these cases, you have to pretend you are a new user to the tool, instead of relying on old knowledge. Read the docs again, retrace all configuration steps from scratch, and make sure everything is right.23:08
Zoffixpenguin42, no, just my Ubuntu box with quicksynergy. The other one is single-monitor Windows.23:08
ZoffixAprogas, makes sense.23:08
* Zoffix does so23:08
penguin42Zoffix: Can you pastebin your ~/.quicksynergy/synergy.conf ?23:10
penguin42Zoffix: To be honest synergy is starting to annoy me; I'm having keymapping troubles between this KDE Precise system and a Gnome2 system; but the only other thing I know of (mango-lassi) is hopelessly unstable23:11
Zoffixpenguin42, Right now I have "Up" setup to switch to my second machine. The dual-head Ubuntu box is b-pevstratov-dt, the single-head windows is b-webtest-dt : http://pastebin.com/t8tG3gYU23:13
Zoffixpenguin42, and here is when it's setup the way I want it to work, with right edge of right monitor switching to the windows machine: http://pastebin.com/9j0t2nbd23:14
atpa8apenguin42: all from precise repos23:16
Zoffixpenguin42, can you paste yourself? I wanna see how it writes down dual-head config in that file.23:16
atpa8ai try to avoid anything unofficial :)23:16
Zoffixpenguin42, err.. I'm dumb, never mind, you don't have dual head lol23:16
penguin42Zoffix: Still, it might be useful http://paste.ubuntu.com/916739/23:20
ZoffixHm. I backed up my files from when everything was working, and I don't see any reference to "none" displays....23:20
penguin42Zoffix: The none bit is odd23:20
=== diegovieiraeti is now known as diegovieira
penguin42Zoffix: I'd be tempted to edit that out; also if you do    xdpyinfo | grep -i screens   what do you get  - I get 1 and I'd kind of expect dual head also to get 123:21
Zoffixpenguin42, I just tried running synergy.conf from my old, working setup, but the problem is still there. The xdpyinfo shows me 2 screens.23:23
ZoffixI think this might be something to do with KDE23:23
ZoffixHm. If I run quicksynergy on my left monitor, and set its left edge to be connectable, then everything works awesomely (except of course, that my monitor for window box is on the right:/)23:25
