BarkingFishAfternoodles all :)  Anyone around who can help with some Precise issues please?11:40
BarkingFishI ran an upgrade overnight to get onto the Precise beta, and it looks great, but there are some issues with the 3.2.0-22.35 kernel headers, primarily that ndiswrapper is missing.11:45
BarkingFishI'm having to use my old 3.0.0-18 kernel to get on the net at the moment11:46
BarkingFishI tried to modprobe ndiswrapper following the upgrade, and despite ndiswrapper-utils and ndiswrapper-common being at the latest versions, system responds: FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found11:48
* BarkingFish decides to come back later, suspecting most of the US contingent are in bed, and the Europe contingent are probably at work :)11:53
sneleJontheEchidna: hi jonathan. I have new problem with muon updater. http://www.dodaj.rs/f/2V/Mk/sOGTbzp/snapshot40.png13:21

ScottKKDE SC 4.8.2 is finally built on all archs.16:12
jessieWhen will those packages get pushed to 12.04?16:21
BarkingFishAfternoon guys. Anyone around now who can help sort out a prob with 12.04 beta please?16:24
yottabitwhat was the reasoning for dropping firefox?16:24
yottabitah there i am!16:25
yottabitthought i was idling in here16:25
ybityeah, i'm still here16:25
BarkingFishfirefox has gone? What the...16:25
BarkingFishAnyway, I'm having some grief with 12.04's new kernel, 3.2.0.22-35 - I have the kernel headers installed, but ndiswrapper seems to be missing.  Trying to update it tells me I'm already using the newest version, and when I try to modprobe it, I just get told FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.16:27
BarkingFishI've had to fall back to running Precise on my old 3.0.0-18 kernel16:27
ScottKBarkingFish: For non-Kubuntu things like the kernel, you're probably better off asking in #ubuntu+1.16:28
BarkingFishOk ScottK - I'll check it with them.16:29
rbelemScottK, hum... i will take a look on it16:38
ScottKrbelem: Thanks.16:39
BarkingFishwell that settles my hash, ScottK - ndiswrapper's been dropped from the kernel with no explanation16:40
BarkingFishwent out in 3.2.0.1716:40
ScottKThere you go.16:40
BarkingFishi've just been told where to go in order to get an explanation, so it's time to put my polite face on, grit my teeth, and get ready for lunch :P16:41
BarkingFishnever mind, I have my answer. It's been supported as a dkms package now, so it's not necessary to duplicate it in kernel16:42
BarkingFishhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/917654/16:42
ScottKSo then the question is do we have it packaged as one?16:47
ScottKI guess we do.16:47
ScottKDKMS works pretty well.  I have a netbook with Broadcom wireless that needs it and it works well.16:48
rbelemScottK, i  cant reproduce that bug16:54
rbelemScottK, works fine for me with the defaults16:55
rbelemi will try harder with a new installation16:56
rbelemRiddell, ScottK, could you help me with the kwin active stuff?16:57
rbelemi did not manage to get it working16:57
rbelemi m getting this error http://paste.kde.org/452966/16:57
rbelemthe pkg is uploaded to kubuntu active ppa16:58
ScottKrbelem: No.  I don't know about that.  Maybe shadeslayer or debfx could help?17:01
rbelemand here is the patch http://paste.kde.org/452996/17:13
BarkingFishRight, so I'm up and working on the right kernel now, I have ndiswrapper, which is slightly borked but reported, and all the world is good. At least for now anyway :)17:14
ybitBarkingFish: firefox isn't gone, it's just no longer supported in kde for kubuntu or something like that17:18
ybiti was wondering if someone could clarify why17:18
BarkingFishWell I hope someone can :)  Firefox is the only decent browser out there, considering rekonq fails so badly on a lot of stuff :(17:18
ybithttp://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTA3MjI and http://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/r3ntv/kubuntu_1204_to_drop_kde_support_for_firefox/17:18
ybitphoronix wasn't loading previously17:19
ybitso.. ignore question :)17:20
BarkingFishSo is it still available in the repos, ybit, or has it *gone*, gone.17:22
BarkingFish?17:22
BluesKajBarkingFish,  just did a 12.04 clean insytall and the FF installer is still in th ekmenu , but I haven't run it yet17:23
BarkingFishthank god for that17:24
BarkingFishI'd be prepared to compile it from source just to have a decent browser17:24
ybitBarkingFish: i'm not sure, right now, i'm on opensuse, and all my VMs are sitting beside me on an external not being used17:24
rbelemScottK, Riddell, i'm getting the same error without kwinactive patch17:27
rbelemi'm only adding -DKWIN_PLASMA_ACTIVE=true as build parameter17:28
ScottKAll that was done is the KDE integration patch for Firefox was dropped.17:28
ScottKFirefox is still around.17:28
BarkingFishexcellent17:28
BarkingFishso we'll still be getting updates for it as and when they become available17:29
* rbelem disables all patches17:30
BluesKajBarkingFish,I prefe chromium , but FF seems ok on 12.04 , since it's LTS I imagine the community will keep FF upgraded and up to date as much as possible.17:31
BarkingFishchromium never worked properly for me as a browser, BluesKaj - even when you told it to become your default browser, it didn't, and it kept crashing pretty much constantly, especially when trying to use Youtube.  Nightmare :P17:33
BluesKajhmm BarkingFish , that's odd ..I haven't seen that , stability is one of it's pluses IME17:35
rbelemRiddell, ScottK, no patches and same build failure17:38
rbelemtime to ping martin17:39
rbelemkwinactive is broken upstream17:39
* rbelem runs to fix other kubuntu active bugs17:41
swecarpanny 1 here that are looking att the pakage of Digikam 17:53
yofelScottK: thanks for clearing the uploads up, I'll put a notice about that in the changelog next time18:23
ScottKyofel: You're welcome.18:24
rbelemScottK, can i close a bug?18:36

JontheEchidnasnele: yeah, you'll have to upgrade the kdepim-related packages manually via apt-get20:35
JontheEchidnathere's a problem marking them for upgrade which qapt incorrectly reports as a locking error20:36
=== jalcine is now known as Guest74149
JontheEchidnaThe marking problem is a separate issue, but the fix is a bit invasive and I wouldn't feel comfortable backporting it to 1.3.x20:37

BarkingFishRiddell, sorry to bother you, is this right what a user is telling me in #kubuntu - that Canonical are withdrawing support for KDE after 12.04?22:15
JontheEchidnaBarkingFish: commercial support. they will stop selling technical support contracts for kubuntu after 12.0422:18
rbelemRiddell, ScottK, i fixed the kwin active build failure :-D23:52
