[00:19] Hello all [00:40] hi all [00:41] i installed studio precise beta and then i installed and started using gnome classic mode, now there is still a bunch of stuff from the other window manager left over, how do i remove that? [05:00] hi [05:00] i could use some small help with jack and virtual keyboard [05:00] i would like my virtual keyboard (and for that matter, other midi devices) to appear in the jack midi tab, but they only appear in also [05:00] alsa* [05:01] and not all programs support me connecting midi to alsa, i need to do midi to midi on jack on the midi tab, and i can't do that because the device does not appear on the midi tab [05:31] osirisx11, don't know if you are still there... two ways of seeing alsa midi stuff in jack. [05:31] still here [05:31] using jack, and using a2jmidid [05:32] if you use qjackctl to start jack, there is a midi driver button on the setup screen [05:33] if you set that to seq, the alsa midi stuff will show up in jack... [05:34] There is a problem though, they are not named. Just in sequence. So you have to look through all the alsa midi clients and count down from the top. [05:35] a2jmidid is started from the command line and imports device names. [05:36] off hand I don't remember the key combo to get the command line... so I tend to have an xterm open. [05:37] Jack has to be running before a2jmidid is run and when jack is stopped a2j stops on its own. [05:40] osirisx11: does that make any sense? [05:41] let me read.. [05:41] Alt f2 gets the run dialog [05:41] ctrl-alt-t btw [05:42] so i have to use a2j in order for jack to see my midi devices? [05:42] :-/ [05:42] No, you can use the seq setting on jack, its just harder. One hopes jack3 will fix that. [05:44] i set it to seq and virtual keyboard still only shows up on alsa tab [05:44] you should have system in the jack side. if you open that there should be the same number of midi ports as in alsa [05:45] system is not in the midi tab [05:45] Is anything? [05:45] no [05:46] but vkbd does show in alsa tab [05:46] and i can use it fine with programs [05:46] well programs that support alsa based midi input [05:46] did you restart jack? [05:47] the server but not the ctl, yes [05:47] I have system in the midi tab. [05:48] nothing here [05:48] try stopping and starting jack. [05:48] i just did that remember? [05:49] I'm confused... not by what you said but why it doesn't work [05:49] i am on ubuntu studio beta "precise" [05:49] Same here [05:49] i only see system in audio tab [05:50] audio I have system and pulse audio, midi I have system, alsa I have midi through and virt keybd [05:53] thanks anyway [05:53] what happens if you hit alt f2 and type in a2jmidid? [05:54] port created: LMMS [132] (playback): Default preset [05:54] ALSA-sequencer: unhandled input event 66 [05:54] ERROR: a2j_port_create: jack_port_register() failed for 'LMMS [132] (playback): Default preset' [05:55] o that worked [05:56] ty [05:56] np [05:56] feels hackish though i wish jack did it natively [05:57] seq is supposed to, but it is a pain even when it works... they are not labelled just numbered 1 n [05:58] yep confirmed working, just used something i was unable to before! ty [05:58] I have seq running now and the virt kybd is called "midi_capture_2" [05:59] Glad I could help. [06:28] after i quit everything jack how do i restore alsa? [06:31] osirisx11, restore alsa? Alsa should be the same as when you booted. Puslse should go back to normal too. Is there a problem with something not working? [06:32] puslse should be pulse [06:54] len-1204: i have to fiddle with the sound settings [06:54] change it to hdmi, change it to analog and back or fiddle with volume or something [06:54] and then it works [06:54] but before then it just shows dummy audio output [06:55] len-1204: ^ [06:55] which application are you using to change it? [06:55] whatever default sound panel [06:55] sound settings control panel [06:55] fromthe icon at the top? [06:56] yes [06:56] that is getting changed to pavcontol [06:56] okie [06:56] ty [06:56] how can i change jack volume when in jack mode? [06:57] bc that sound dialog doesnt work at all when in jack [06:57] is there a jack mixer? [06:57] Maybe they already changed it. [06:57] well i did go to gnome classic [06:58] studio doesn't ship it, but synaptic has it. [06:58] The alsa mixer should still be in the mixer menu too. [07:00] ty [07:04] It is kinda hard to know what someone else is looking at across irc. It's my first time trying to help someone this way :-) [11:06] hi [11:07] do you have some experience with midi/audio over network? [12:56] do you have some experience with midi/audio over network? [13:52] raven: jacktrip [13:52] and netjack [15:13] o/ all
