[02:02] hi all [02:02] i'm unable to get jack started on my firewire soundcard in 12.04 beta2 [02:02] i've got ffado-dbus-server running [02:03] and i ran jackd -d firewire -p 256 -n 2 -r 48000 [02:28] o/ all [03:02] anyone knows some noise reduction plugins exists in ardour [03:29] scriptwarlock, don't know what is a good noise reduction to use, ardour doesn't come with any plugins. It looks on your system to see what LADSPA or LV2 plugins are installed and can use those. [03:30] audacity has one but it's tiresome jumping apps to another [03:30] Th [03:30] I'm not sure but I thought audacity used the same plugins... but maybe it has soem of its own too. [03:31] I have used the one in audacity. But I don't know if it is also available elsewhere. [03:32] was master some live recording ang found out some annoying buzz thats why im searching some noise redution tools for ardoue unfortunately gate is not the right one for this [03:34] The one in ad [03:34] ad? [03:35] the one in audacity samples the noise and tries to take out anything like it.. [03:35] finger trouble. [03:36] I see no LV2 filters like that. [03:36] hope someone can make some noise reduction tools for us [03:36] for ardour [03:37] in a few days after i'm done with the website im making going to switch to ubuntu studio 12.04, any news about it? [03:41] It's pretty much done for this cycle. There's a live dvd iso this time so you can look at it with out installing [03:41] yes checking [03:41] The switch to xfce is complete. [03:41] so no unity? [03:42] Some one has a method of doing that too. But for a lot of us unity just doesn't work and takes too much CPU/Memory [03:43] I'm not the one to ask as I personally don't like unity for this kind of work. [03:43] i have downloaded a torrent US12.04 beta2 this is xfce? [03:44] I figure unity is a good netbook DE though. US12.04 B2 is xfce [03:44] im good with xfce [03:45] perhaps lxde too is compatible with us12.04? [03:45] It comes with a low latency kernel as well. [03:46] I don't know lxde well enough to say. [03:46] ok download is finished gonna try this to one of my machine [03:47] Most of the apps will of course work, the themes are ok [03:47] menus might not be the same on lxde [03:47] xcfe is fine [03:53] i have to trim down this ustudio my only interest is ardour and mixxx [03:54] There are plans to have a setup that just installs the required apps [03:55] on video editors theres is openshot and was waiting for lightworks [03:56] wow on graphics theres too many of them that i dont want [03:56] and also on midi [04:01] With the alt install we could have workflow installs. The live iso dosen't allow that. [04:01] oh [04:02] SO the thought is to make an "after install" installer for workflows. [04:03] us12.04 is huge 2.+gig [04:03] I think a lot of the stuff in the meta packages are now recommends, so removing one app should work. [04:03] Yup, dvd only no CD [04:03] is it because of the default apps? [04:04] Pretty much, most of the ubuntu distros had a very hard time fitting things into a CD. Most have some of their stuff installing from net. [04:05] I think ubuntu desktop installs libreoffice from net for example. [04:06] was thinking ubuntu studio is good for studios not for desktop usage [04:06] That is the design thought too. [04:06] so omitting net apps is a better way of trimming down the iso [04:07] The CD size has become a bit outdated. Most of us install from a usb stick... in fact this computer has no dvd/cd drive and that is the only way for me to install. [04:08] I would like to have more control over what I load though [04:08] i am planning to have a recording studio sooner and was eyeing ubuntu studio [04:09] does ustudio support hardware like presonus or motu? [04:10] It ouwld support whatever alsa supports, plus there is the firewire drivers. [04:11] yes firewire is still needed [04:11] Firewire is going to get added to alsa, but is not there yet. [04:13] I'm pretty new to all this, mostly doing testing to make sure it installs and runs. [04:14] likewise here very noob on ustudio but not ubuntu [04:16] im still hoping unity is included on ustudio and assuming most users will use some hispec pc/laptop [04:19] brb lunch time [07:31] no screenshots for ustudio 12.04 yet? [10:22] hi guys, need a little help installing a motu traveller mk1 on my 10.04 [10:22] i can't see the device in my input devices... i installed ffado [10:23] tried all i could find on google, but it's not working [10:23] i need this done by 2, we're doing rehearsals for a show, and that needs to work.. :/ [10:23] would be extremely grateful to get some help, thanks! [11:45] walidvb, hi [11:47] walidvb, to use the ffado driver, you have to start jackd [11:47] install qjackctl [11:47] and choose freebob or firewire in the driver section of the setup windows [11:49] it is not possible to use firewire sound cards with pulseaudio [12:01] ttoine: i was with adi on #ffado right now [12:02] we went a long way, but it's still not working :( [12:02] firewire doesn't show up in the connect list [12:05] you are usung Hardy ? [12:05] don't know Hardy [12:05] (sry not so familiar with ubuntu or linux) [12:05] i use jack to "stream" to a custom app, scenic [12:09] brb [12:10] but wich version of Ubuntu are you using ? [12:12] walidvb, please, have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudioPreparation [12:12] it is updated for a recent version of Ubuntu [12:12] maybe you can try to download the current beta2 version of Precise [12:13] I am sorry, I don't have firewire sound card at home at the moment, but I used too and it worked very well [12:19] ttoine: still here? [12:21] ttoine: no i'm on lucid [12:33] walidvb_, ok that's not the good version for firewire [12:33] walidvb_, you should go there [12:34] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/precise/beta-2/ [12:34] download the 32bit (i386) version [12:34] it should work [13:01] but my cpu is 64bit... [13:01] and if i run jackd -d firewire -v3, it sees the input [13:01] ttoine: [13:03] yes ? [13:04] well jackd -d firewire sees the input [13:04] i get the stream [13:04] problem is i need to run via qjackctl [19:31] hello all... is anybody out there to answer a very quick question? [19:38] quick question: is it possible to upgrade from a vanilla Ubuntu 11.10 to a UbuntuStudio 12.04 (beta) without re-installing everything? a link to some how-to would be appreciated too [19:54] mtms: you just install what you like [19:55] personally, you will save time backing up and reinstalling [19:55] you would upgrade to ubuntu 12.04 [19:55] then, search for "ubuntustudio" in the package manger of your chioce and install what you like :) [19:55] you dont *need* to convert [19:55] you just install the pacakges you want to use and use them [19:56] either the big metapacakges like ubuntustudio-audio, or just the apps you want, like JACK and ardour for example [19:58] ty holstein, I'll experiment a bit on my "test" machine :)
