[20:36] So just to let you guys know [20:36] I haven't been ignoring you === Flare183 changed the topic of #ubuntu-us-sc to: Welcome to #ubuntu-us-sc | Get involved! Ask questions. [21:21] Hi, I'm back after having some issues with my family. [21:21] and I'm here in need, I need someone to help me run this community [21:22] Being one of the youngest team leaders of entire loco board is hard on me [21:24] Bryanstein: would you like to be that person? [21:25] Flare183, well...I'm a Floridian but I'm always in SC...this thing has been dead for quite some time [21:26] Yes it has [21:26] we reached out to you guys a few times and got no response [21:26] Bryanstein: well I'm here now [21:26] And we need help [21:26] I'm the speaker coordinator of Southeast Linux Fest... [21:26] lol [21:26] I can't even goto SELF [21:26] I'm 21, I'm lacking resources (money, etc) to run this without help [21:26] there was an Ubucon at last years SELF and errr no one ponged back from here [21:27] Flare183, why do you need $$$ to herd people [21:27] ? [21:27] Nah, I need the money to get the domain back running. But yes we do need people [21:27] The people matter the most [21:27] and the last few meetings I've asked many people to do such things, with no results [21:27] :/ [21:29] Bryanstein: I'm almost ready to give up my team leader status and just be a member again, but I can't do that. I want this team to work [21:29] Flare183, well this is the thing...from what i've seen and heard from going to Ubucon's is that many loco's try and do their own thing and branch off [21:30] * Flare183 sighs [21:30] So that's why this place is dead [21:30] I will work on this. I have a few people that use Ubuntu in my own county, so I'll do what I can. I also will try to do this and keep trying [21:30] well the thing is this...like you said..you need the site up and xyz...there are many things that are in place already that you can use to communicate with others [21:31] Yes, and I plan on using them all this time [21:31] I just need to get my thoughts going and such [21:31] http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-southcarolina [21:32] yes I know [21:32] and recluse is gone [21:32] http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-southcarolina/events [21:32] I can't even find him [21:32] lol well... [21:32] hi, is this another unscheduled meeting? [21:32] jbicha: no, I'm just discussing the reason this place is dead...again [21:32] get a full understanding of how the open source ecosystem works [21:33] recluse != the whole loco [21:33] lol I know this [21:33] lol ok so keep the ball rolling [21:33] I need to accept my role and quit derping [21:34] we're doing good things in Columbia with Ubuntu & other tech [21:34] * Flare183 sighs [21:34] jbicha: yeah, things that need to be brought here [21:34] actually [21:34] in fact [21:34] I can't lead the group but we'd like to work with whoever does lead the group [21:35] jbicha: I want you to talk to your guys over there and the next meeting, I want your guys over here ok? [21:35] I lead it. [21:35] And I will keep trying to move this group forward [21:35] ok, how about a 12.04 release party? [21:35] jbicha: heh [21:35] You guys have to understand, I CAN'T go anywhere [21:36] unless its in clemson [21:36] otherwise, its not going to happen [21:36] I have no way to get anywhere unless its public transportation [21:37] Flare183, that doesnt mean there can't be a release party scheduled [21:37] I don't understand. [21:37] So you need to be there for there to be a release party? [21:37] I would think so. [21:37] in fact, I'm heading to TechAfterFive in a few minutes to pass out some Ubuntu CDs [21:37] http://www.techafterfive.com/ [21:38] Bryanstein: its not that, it annoys me that I can't be apart of this community personally. [21:38] If I could do so, I would be more invovled [21:38] I'm 21, and I'm the youngest team leader [21:38] And I don't want to just give up on this. [21:39] Flare183: how difficult is it for you to get to Greenville? [21:39] jbicha: very hard, mainly due to the fact that I have to ask my parents for a ride up there [21:39] And you don't know my parents like I do [21:39] they won't take me [21:39] wait [21:40] jbicha: when? [21:40] I might actually be able to get my friend to take me if its on the weekend! [21:40] :O [21:40] I got the CDs at TA5 idea from Weudel at the last meeting (I guess in October) [21:40] Flare183: have you ever heard of IT-oLogy? [21:41] o_O [21:41] jbicha: no? [21:42] jbicha: What is it? lol [21:42] ok I work with the http://www.open-it-lab.com/ which is a partner with http://it-ology.org/ [21:42] (I really need to blog this) [21:42] IT-oLogy is a non-profit here in Columbia that's working with companies and universities to grow the IT community [21:43] Alright how about this [21:43] I'm going to two things [21:43] its current location & operation is about a year old, but they just opened a satellite campus at the University Center in Greenville [21:43] I'm going to spartunburg methodist this fall [21:43] to do * [21:43] the Open IT Lab has been doing a couple workshops a month introduing open source to the community [21:43] that's one of them [21:43] I' [21:43] I'm going to schedule something in spartenburg [21:44] the second thing I'm thinking about doing is getting my friend Kevin to take me to greenville and we'll have a Ubuntu Hour [21:44] I'm sure IT-oLogy in Greenville would love to work with you to do similar programs there [21:44] jbicha: I'll think about it [21:44] I've not been to the space in Greenville yet, but they probably have space you could use [21:44] but as for what I just said [21:44] how does that sound? [21:44] wait [21:45] jbicha: are you saying we could use space for a Ubuntu hour? [21:45] or other stuff? [21:45] we need to talk to the people there and see but probably [21:45] whoa [21:45] hold up then [21:45] the Greenville part is very new, a month or two old [21:46] we might have something going then [21:46] otherwise I'll need to talk to my campus about events [21:46] trust me guys we'll get something going and I will be at it [21:46] itology was at SELF last your btw [21:46] oh that's cool [21:46] that's right [21:47] Flare183, you dont need to be at the events to lead and organize them [21:47] it's great if you are but even greater if you arent [21:47] Bryanstein: Alright then [21:47] I think a big part of being an approved loco is doing the monthly reports [21:47] Then I need to appoint someone to lead it [21:47] ask people what they're doing and encourage people to do more [21:47] jbicha: well I'll start doing that then [21:48] I'll get to work on that then :) [21:48] I'm going afk for a while [21:48] But I'll get to work on all this :) [21:49] just let us know on the mailing list when you're ready for what's been going on in the past month or so [21:49] alright I will [21:49] Flare183: thanks! [21:49] :) [21:49] I'm going to head to TA5 now, talk to you more later [21:49] I'm glad that I can do this finally [21:49] alright :) [21:49] /away [22:02] /back
