dpmRiddell, as per our conversation last week, did you have the chance to upload calligra-l10n overriding language packs? yurchor noticed that Calligra is still English-only09:38
Riddelldpm: yes let me verify09:40
Riddellcalligra-l10n-fr is full of french files09:41
Riddelland calligrawords starts in french09:46
yurchorRiddell: So the translations did not appear on LP, just only in the real packages?09:46
Riddellyurchor: right09:47
yurchorBecause I do not see Ukrainian translation on LP.09:47
Riddellthat'll be because it's not in launchpad :)09:47
yurchorCould the templates for Calligra be switched off then to avoid confusion?09:47
Riddellnudge dpm for that09:47
yurchorThanks.09:48
dpmyurchor, will do. To be sure, though, does Calligra start in Ukranian for you?09:49
yurchorDo not know. ;) The distribution is yours. I'm using MAgeia and testing Fedora. :)09:51
Riddellcalligra-l10n-uk has loads of .po files in it10:02
yurchorRiddell: Amcharic KDE translator asked on UserBase about possibility to translate Calligra into his language (if I understood him right). http://userbase.kde.org/index.php?title=User_talk:Samson&offset=20120423184738&lqt_mustshow=1746#Translation_Kubuntu__172410:10
yurchorShould I answer him that this is impossible on LP?10:10
yurchor*Amharic, for sure.10:11
Riddellyurchor: right, the best place to translate KDE software is through the kde mechanism10:15

yurchorOk. Thanks.10:16

jussiRiddell: but the colour? and the plymouth background is what Im talking about, but its a similar colour - same as agateau's light dm thing11:32
Riddelljussi: yep greyish, boring but grey goes with everything11:38
Riddelloxygen team are responsible for that and apachelogger nicely synced the boot splash11:39

ScottKquassel has a 0.7.4 release meant to address compatibility issues with Qt 4.8.  It would be good if someone who cares about PPAs would upload that into the Qt 4.8 PPA for oneiric.12:49
* Riddell nudges BluesKaj into iso testing13:14
ScottKRiddell: I think that except for the DVDs all tests got run at least once on one architecture.  I got as far as the live test on a DVD when there was a respin.13:15
ScottK(that's over the weekend - the current images still need revalidating, of course)13:16
BluesKajRiddell, my test pc needs a new mobo , so it's out of commission for a while13:16
RiddellScottK: great thanks for looking after things13:16
RiddellScottK: my plans for today are alternates (in progress), DVDs, ARM and upgrades13:17
Riddellwhich I may or may not get through13:17
ScottKI can do some testing, but am limited to i386.13:17
Riddellthen tomorrow filling in the blanks in test coverage13:18
ScottKSo I'd suggest you focuse on amd64/arm.  I won't be able to do all of i386, but I can make a dent in it.13:18
ScottKMaybe yofel will do some more too.13:18
Riddelloh and active too but that's just a case of "does it run"13:19
RiddellI expect active still has an annoying 5 minute pause on startup but that's why we call it a preview13:19
rbelemRiddell, if we can remove kubuntu-default-settings from KDEDIRS in active it will start faster13:21
Riddellrbelem: yeah you said but too late for that I fear13:21
rbelem:'(13:24
Riddellrbelem: we'll release note it and it'll get fixed next time.  I tried balsam's active version and it has just as many problems so we're as good as them I'd say :)13:25
rbelem:-D13:30
erfanianI have two rather bugs I would like to report with the latest Beta214:03
erfaniantwo bugs*14:03
Riddellerfanian: we're in testing mode today for release so I suspect the answer will be "have you treid the release candidates?"14:04
erfanianRiddell: Could you point me in the direction of the RC?14:05
erfanianAnd would the RC be the same as the latest update && upgrade?14:05
TeLLuSWe are near release so I wounder if we will fix the mass chrashing of kmix, or wait untill 4.8.3. Maybe we could remove kmix for the 12.04 release if we dont fix it?  KDE bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29074214:08
ubottuKDE bug 290742 in general "kmix is crashing after multiple volume changes" [Crash,Assigned: ]14:08
erfanianI cannot tell if the bugs I found were system specific. Whenever I tried an alternative install with full disk encryption the installer would quit when it was installing packages. The other is that my screen edge function in KDE did not work in Beta 2, worked in Beta 1, then only the right hand corners worked.14:08
erfanianThat kmix bug is incredibly annoying. I suffer from it as well.14:09
TeLLuSerfanian: I installed Natty with alt cd on this system with the encryption.. But before reboot I had to do some manual changes before reboot othewise it would not start again.14:11
BluesKajerfanian, why don't you guys use alsamixer in the terminal instead , it's much more configurable ...kmix is just a gui for alsa anyway 14:12
erfanianTeLLuS: Did it crash installing packages and kick you back to the installer menu? What did you do after that.14:12
TeLLuSBluesKaj: Yes we chould use that but it is kmix that is installed as default.. and WE have to support it.. or rather remove it if it is not fixed before releease14:13
erfanianBluesKaj: Because I like using my multimedia keys :). Plus when I pulled the latest trunk from their SVN (before they moved to git) it was rock solid.14:13
Riddellerfanian: iso.qa.ubuntu.com has them14:14
TeLLuSBluesKaj: No installation worked but I had to use the menu install to do the changes of boot option for it to use thr right partition.. 14:14
erfanianRiddell: Thanks. I'll pull it this morning and come back here to report.14:15
RiddellTeLLuS: too late I'm afraid, I agree it's high prority and we should work out a fix for updates14:15
BluesKajTeLLuS, personally I think kmix is redundant ..dunno why it needs support quite frankly 14:16
Riddell...to change volume ?14:16
TeLLuSRiddell: yes, what is needed to do that?14:18
BluesKajusually ppl set the volume at close to the max the ctrl it on their audio device , be they speakers or an amp 14:18
BluesKaj then ctrl it 14:18
RiddellBluesKaj: that's not the behaviour I've observed14:18
RiddellTeLLuS: check if it has a bug in launchpad and mark it for precise-updates and high priority14:19
BluesKajwell, that's what they should do Riddell :)14:19
yofelBluesKaj: hard to do that on a notebook14:22
yofel+ alsamixer doesn't support per-stream volume changing from pulseaudio14:23
BluesKajyofel, what about voll ctrls on the KB ?14:24
yofelwell, agreed, but missing pulse support still stands14:24
yofel(now don't ask me why we need pulseaudio)14:25
erfanianWhat plasma applet would replace kmix for control form the panel?14:25
ScottKkmix has been pretty stable here.14:26
yofeliirc there was a third party one that I forgot the name of. By default there isn't one14:26
BluesKajyofel, well , in my case pulseaudio supports webaudio on my m-audio pci soundcard, otherwise I'd have no audio on websites14:26
yofeland I totally forgot to say that I haven't seen kmix crash in over a month - guess I don't use the broken parts14:27
erfanianUsers are going to need some sort of panel option for volume, otherwise everyone will get confused.14:27
BluesKajerfanian, not everyone :)14:29
erfanianBluesKaj: True.14:31
erfanianBe back in a bit.14:31
ScottKI'm going to start with the i386 DVD since that didn't get much testing over the weekend and I have bandwidth.14:41
TeLLuSRiddell: He, you reported the kmix bug a month ago on 4.8.1, set for the 12.04 milestone. It is #963895 for 4.8.1 and #981934 for 4.8.2..  I'm not allowed to mark it or change priority from what I could see, if you allow me..14:44
RiddellTeLLuS: thanks I had a feeling I had14:46

ubottuLaunchpad bug 981934 in kdemultimedia (Ubuntu) "kmix crashes without any action" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/98193414:46
erfanianDoes anyone know more about how the home directory encryption works in the installer? I installed Beta2 with a separate /home partition, then installed Beta1 over that. I just used my same password and it managed to mount all my data again... but my gut tells me that shouldn't happen. I haven't tried looking at the data from a live CD yet to see if it's encyrpted at all.14:47
Riddellerfanian: it depends on the installer but if you don't format the partition then there shouldn't be a change14:52
erfanianRiddell: But if I didn't use the same password it shouldn't be able to get to the data, right?14:56
Riddellyou just said that you did14:56
Riddellanyway the answer is "I don't know" I'm afraid14:57
erfanianRiddell: Indeed, I did use the same password. I was just wondering how they actual encryption scheme went. But thanks!14:57
ScottKSomewhere in there, there is a link between your user password and the decryption key.  Since Ubuntu installs do go to some length to prevserve /home, it doesn't surprise me it manages to preserve that as well.14:58
yofelRiddell: for reference - for importance changes you need to be a member of ubuntu-bug-control15:01
yofelTeLLuS: ^15:01
TeLLuSRiddell: Found https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugControl   need to sign 15:01
* Peace- now konqueror has a good browser identification...15:02
RiddellTeLLuS: need to sign what?15:03
erfanianScottK: So then I should just use that password every time I do a clean install, and then change my user password later if need be. Good to know - thanks.15:03
ScottKYou need to be careful about changing your password with an encrypted home.15:03
ScottKChanging the user password doesn't change the encryption key.15:04
TeLLuSRiddell: Sign the Ubuntu Code of Conduct15:04
erfanianScottK: I'll be sure to back up :)15:05
TeLLuSNow where did I put my gpg key, is it still valid.15:07
erfanianRiddell: I'm on the latest RC right now. The upper left screen edge action doesn't work but all the other corners do. Could be machine specific for some reason.15:17
ScottKWorks here.15:17
erfanianIt works for me when I set my screen resolution lower. I wonder if something is bizzare because it is a tablet pc.15:18

tsdgeosagateau: so what's the benefit of lightdm-kde over say lighdm-nonkde or kdm?15:49
Riddellso could be kde-runtime-data15:49
bulldog98Riddell: it also has library stuff so you need both15:49
Riddellbulldog98: I'll leave you to answer the question I'm just guessing :)15:49
agateautsdgeos: the other available (maintained) lightdm greeters are based on gtk or clutter, so having a plasma-components, qml-based one integrates better than them15:50
agateautsdgeos: it even comes with a kcm15:50
tsdgeosi see15:51
agateautsdgeos: compared to kdm, it is easier to theme, brings support for features like guest support, and hopefully soon, better power management15:51
agateautsdgeos: but it still lacks some of kdm features15:51
Riddelland if upstream replaces kdm it's one less thing to maintain15:52

sealneis anyone else seeing on precise akonadi_mailfilter use all the cpu and ram/swap on startup making the pc unuasble for about an hour each boot, its so bad for me that i can't even move the mouse17:38
sealneit also happened on oneric after 4.8.117:38
ScottKsealne: Yes.17:40
sealnecool, not just me then :-/17:41
ScottKI deleted all the data and reimported and that cleared it up.17:43
sealnethats handy to know i wondered about that but its a big job, i'll try that at some suitable time then17:44
ScottKKDE Bug 29862617:44
ubottuKDE bug 298626 in Mail Filter Agent "akonadi_mailftiler_agent crashes and fails to start after system freeze" [Crash,Unconfirmed: ] http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29862617:44
ScottKI get the 100% CPU before the crash.17:45
sealneyeah it was always crashing for me after it unfroze aswell17:45
sealnefor the last while i've just been logining in and quickly typing akonadictl stop ;) but using webmail is frustrating17:46
ScottKPlease comment in the bug.17:46
sealnethe problem i've had about reporting was that its all kind of vague17:47
ScottKI'm leaving the Dr. Konqui window open so it doesn't restart and then removed the mailfilter using akonadiconsole.17:47
ScottKThe rest of it still works.17:47
Peace-ScottK: you can install kdm themes ?17:53
Peace-it seems i can't 17:53
ScottKI haven't tried. I always just use the default.17:53
Peace-it seeems a permission bug17:53
Peace-but i am not sure17:53
Peace-ScottK: if you can confirm i will fill a bug17:54
ScottKSorry.  Don't have time to look into it.17:55
Peace-oh ok 17:55
yurchorHi! I have tested Beta 2 and today's ISO (386 ans amd64). All Live images have Bug 945461. Is this a known issue?17:57
ubottuLaunchpad bug 945461 in qt4-x11 (Ubuntu) "The default font used for Qt4 is broken (regarding cyrillic text)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/94546117:57
ScottKyurchor: I don't think so.17:58
ScottKRiddell: ^^^17:58
TeLLuSFYI After upgrade I got akonadi_kdeaccounts_resource crashed with SIGSEGV     Disassembly: => 0x7f9b5c261c1b: Cannot access memory at address 0x7f9b5c261c1b    so with no good stacktrace  retracing failed and made the bug invalid..     Under Akonadi resources I found "KDE Accounts" and have now removed it.. I don't know what it is but without it I do not get any crash from it after login..18:17
* yofel is tired of debugging kmail18:34
yofelanyone an idea what to do with http://paste.kde.org/462944 ? I reliably get that when first starting Kontact after installation18:34
yofelacutally, you get that in the live session as well18:35
yofelnothing seems really broken, just the messages are scary18:36
ScottKWhat happens if you mkdir /home/yofel/.local/share/contacts/ and then reboot?18:40

yofelScottK: warning gone (as expected)18:53
yofeland that's the only one that keeps coming after a reboot otherwise. The others seem to be first-run-only18:53
ScottKSeems like a skeleton file issue then.18:55
ScottK(which I'm not sure how KDE handles)18:55

* ScottK prods at shadeslayer again.20:25
nixternalHEY! MY FREAKING BEATS AUDIO SUBWOOFER DOESN'T WORK WITH 12.04! YOU CAN'T RELEASE THIS STUFF, IT ISN'T READY!!!!!!!!20:27
nixternal;p20:27
BluesKajnixternal, make sure it's plugged in :)20:32
Riddellclaydoh: you're onto the release announcement?20:35
ScottKHe is.20:36
Riddellexcellent20:36
ScottKRiddell: I think we got enough testing on the powerpc desktop image to release it with some heavy "not thoroughly tested" cavets.20:36
RiddellI think my tsk list for this evening is dvd amd64 oem install, upgrade testing and then take a look at the release notes20:37
ScottKI sent the tester (who is unknown to me) mail via LP thanking them for the testing and asking for me.20:37
claydohRiddell: yes, both the one in Ubuntu's format and one we might be able to use on the website20:37
ScottKme/more20:37
Riddellclaydoh: awesomeness20:37
yofelbtw. you can ignore that failure for the amd64 desktop image - that issue's known since natty20:38
RiddellI was planning to :)20:39
Riddellnice to see grue still testing arm for us too20:39
claydohRiddell: ScottK regarding the 384mb ram minimun system specs, is that still accurate?21:21
Riddellclaydoh: dunno we haven't done any tests21:21
claydohRiddell: my personal experience says 1gb min :D but I am one dude21:22
Riddellclaydoh: keep it for now until someone does some tests, no point in making up a figure21:22
claydohRiddell: ok21:22
ScottKLowest ram system I have is 1GB.21:26
RiddellScottK: mem=500MB on the boot arguments would be the way to test it21:26
Riddellbut it's a slow time consuming thing to do21:27
ScottKI can do that tonight.21:37
ScottK(I've tested everything I can test already)21:37
RiddellScottK: how come you don't have an amd64 machine?21:51
Riddellclaydoh: I think I need to go to bed now, do you have everything you need?22:08
claydohyes, I just finished the ubuntu wiki notes no9w22:09
claydohhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseNotes/Kubuntu22:09
claydohfor critiquing 22:09
claydohok where is mah spel cheker22:09
Riddelllovely thanks22:10
Riddellwe'll need to collate all the bugs we care about onto the release notes22:11
claydohyes22:11
Riddellclaydoh: for terminology I use "release notes" for that ubuntu page which is more a technical description and "release announce" for the nice readable page to go on the website22:11
claydohRiddell: ok, 22:12
claydohmakes sense22:12
Riddellalso todo check the upgrade docs page22:12
Riddell(just a note to self)22:12
* Riddell snoozes 22:13
drtwoxCan we revert to a working nvidia binary driver before release? nvidia-current (295.40) causes many issues for some users: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTA4ODQ22:21
ScottKI don't have one that's available for testing.23:05
ScottKdrtwox: We just do whatever Ubuntu does on that.23:06
ScottKNothing Kubuntu specific we can do.23:06
drtwoxWhat about konqueror issues? Report here?23:09
drtwoxThe konqueror option 'Open as tab in existing Konqueror when URL is called externally' doesn't work anymore. Links opened from other applications always open a new window instead of an existing Konqeueror instance.23:11
ScottKFile bugs at bugs.kde.org.23:11
ScottKI don't think that's our fault.23:11
drtwoxOkay, thanks for the feedback!23:14
* ScottK has a MEM=384MB install in progress.23:16
ScottKRiddell and claydoh: It worked.  Assuming I used the parameter correctly, 384MB is still possible.23:22
