md_5No release party for melbourne :( so sad07:07
* benonsoftware would've set one up if he had the time07:09
md_5where about are you benonsoftware ?07:11
benonsoftwaremd_5: Melbourne07:11
md_5East/west/north/south07:12
md_5;s07:12
benonsoftwareEast :P07:12
md_5same ;s07:12
head_victimmd_5: still time to organise one :)07:29
head_victimDaniel set one up just today07:29
md_5heh. no07:29
md_5;p07:29
head_victimBetter yet, come up to Brisbane to share ours :D07:30
md_5brisbane gets all the ubuntu fun.07:30
head_victimWe're lucky to have multiple people to share the organising duties.07:31
head_victimCary, James, Chris, myself and others I've probably forgotten names of (sorry!) all pitching in makes them all so easy.07:32
head_victimSeems all the cool kids are already over in #ubuntu-release-party08:08
head_victimIt is kinda interesting to see the number of Aussies in there that perhaps don't even know we're here08:10
iktlol08:11
benonsoftwarehead_victim: I know, I found a coupple Aussies in #ubuntu-offtopic yesterday08:11
iktthat's the same problem I had with ubuntu forums08:11
iktso many aussies, tried to herd them towards us :(08:11
head_victimikt: yeah pretty much, we need towork on ways to become more obvious.08:11
head_victimbenonsoftware: I hope you pointed them here subtly :)08:11
benonsoftwarehead_victim: No, I might next time :P08:12
head_victimHah, about as subtle as a brick to the face ;)08:12
benonsoftwarelol08:12
iktthat's how we do things in straylia08:12
benonsoftwareSo much lag :/08:12
ikti'm hoping it's released in the next hour or so :s08:13
iktdownload from the data centre next to me08:13
iktput it onto the data centre in france and watch the upload speeds soar08:13
benonsoftwareI have to wait to download it :(08:13
head_victimikt: hah good luck ;)08:13
iktlol08:13
head_victimI haven't set up my repo since the installfest :/08:13
iktbenonsoftware, feel your pain, deal with customers on 3g all the time :(08:14
head_victimI can see it's going to be a hundred or two gb to update it :/08:14
* benonsoftware has to wait for APC to release it on their cover DVD08:14
sagaciany sooper secret iso links yet?08:14
sagaci8:15 UTC time08:15
Befficientikt mind I ask where you work?08:15
benonsoftwareErr, I am now hating the myschools website08:16
head_victimbenonsoftware: only now?08:16
head_victimsagaci: ready to hit up aarnet?08:16
sagaciyeah, just going to get the desktop and server of ubuntu and lu and ku08:16
benonsoftwarehead_victim: What? Me only hating the myschools website now?08:16
sagaci64-bits worth08:17
head_victimsagaci: they do Lu on aarnet now?08:17
sagacino08:17
head_victimbenonsoftware: yeah, I thought most people disliked it from the start.08:17
sagacibut I have enough quota08:17
head_victimI can see jellyware getting some requests lined up over the next couple of days.08:17
benonsoftwarehead_victim: Yeah, this is the 2nd time I've used it, first time was when it was released08:17
iktBefficient, internode08:18
Befficientikt, Thought so08:18
BefficientI guessed either ii or Node.08:18
BefficientWell, same thing now lol08:18
iktlol :(08:18
sagaciofficial store cd's preorder goes out on the 7th MAY08:18
iktthink I might do overtime tonight08:19
sagaciMay*08:19
BefficientYah ikt I feel the pain08:19
* benonsoftware loves WeeChat08:19
BefficientI know certain people say that Node will stay the same, but I know for a fact they won't08:19
head_victimsagaci: the loco has already got it's order in :) Just hope we find ways of distributing them well08:19
sagaciI bought a pack of 20 along with keyring, and two shirts08:19
BefficientNode will change08:19
BefficientIt's the way iiNet works08:19
BefficientAlways has been08:20
sagaciit's my way of spreading, just "donating" $20 and getting the proper thing08:20
sagaci"proper" thing being a cardboard CD case08:20
BefficientEveryone I know who works / worked at at WestNet etc, they all hate iiNet.08:20
* benonsoftware has rang up Internode a couple times08:20
BefficientTheir systems etc08:20
benonsoftwareI think it's the only ISP that is cheap08:20
sagaciinternode isn't cheap !08:21
head_victimsagaci: yep, everytime I felt like donating I did a store order. Their bags are pretty good08:21
sagacinot nowadays08:21
Befficientsagaci, Internode is good08:21
sagacitrue08:21
BefficientThe network is excellent08:21
Befficientiinet's isn't08:21
benonsoftwaresagaci: Cheap compared to what I pay for08:21
sagaciand their stance on filtering is awesome08:21
BefficientThe problem with Node now is that iiNet will touch and destroy what Internode was08:22
BefficientWhether now or later08:22
BefficientJust look at WestNet :)08:23
BefficientAnd the others08:23
iktBefficient, depends, has been saying since day 1 that we won't, he really wants the two to stay separate, as iinet is targetting the general population, whereas node are trying to target the geekier side of things08:24
* head_victim is a Telstra fanboy08:24
iktsimon*08:24
iktyou should be ashamed head_victim !08:24
head_victimMeh, I can't get what I'm on anywhere else and it's been good to me so why not I say :)08:25
* benonsoftware hits head_victim08:25
Befficientikt, Well... iiNet has done it before, where the ISP they aquired "wouldn't change" etc, and later on they are just part of ii now08:25
BefficientHowever....08:25
BefficientI do have faith in Mr Hackett.08:26
BefficientMr ii, however.....08:26
BefficientMr ii is very cunning08:27
ikthe is08:27
iktalso a funny bloke08:27
sagacihe's uses macs08:27
iktcompared westnet to internode08:28
sagaciwow, I screwed that08:28
iktaverage westnet customer is mid40's08:28
iktlives in the sticks08:28
BefficientOne of the big things with ii that I and others have is that their pipes etc, aren't really that good.08:28
BefficientNode's are08:28
Befficientii's aren't, yet ii charges a lot for an ISP that isn't that good08:28
chuHey all.08:29
benonsoftwarehead_victim: The other Aussie 08:29
head_victimEvening chu08:29
BefficientHalf the problem the WestNet guys have is that ii got Westnet to use all of ii's routing and systems.... and ahh.... well they aren't really good08:29
chuelky: Still in #ubuntu-au! You *must*, in some sense, still consider yourself an Aussie! <308:29
BefficientHi chu08:30
chuHey Befficient, head_victim08:30
head_victimchu: once an Aussie, always an Aussie 08:31
chuWhere are we all located? What is the relationship to ubuntu? Apart from elky/benonsoftware, not sure I have ever spoken to some of you guys.08:31
chuGood to see a few active Aussies though.08:31

BefficientSo... any guess's on when LTS will release?08:32
head_victimBefficient: I reckon sometime in the next 24 hours would be about right08:32
Befficientlol08:32
chuI thought it would be today?08:32
chuI'm so far out of the loop it's not funny.08:32
BefficientWell it's only just after 9:30am UTC08:32

head_victimOk, I'm sick as a dog and need to be awake at 3am. I'll see some of you then, otherwise I'll catch you all around08:37
chu12:04 UTC08:37
head_victimMake sure you get to your local release party if there is one.08:37
benonsoftwareSee ya head_victim 08:37
chuI don't think we have release parties here.08:37
benonsoftwareand get better!08:37
chuBut, see you later.08:37
sagaciwonder how the Adelaide release party is goin08:38
head_victimchu: http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-au for all the details of upcoming events08:38
iktthinking about what to do after 12.04 is released09:07
iktalready running it on a bunch of computers09:07
sagaciikt: reinstall?09:08
ikthah09:14
ikthttps://twitter.com/#!/ubuntu09:26
iktmere hours away??09:31
chuAfter 12.04 comes out, it's all about installing a minimal base, setting up stumpwm, emacs and conkeror.09:32
iktemac!09:40
ikthow do you use it, it's so horrible09:41
* ikt starts vi vs emacs war09:41
sagacie-mac09:42
chuikt: How is it horrible? :x09:43
benonsoftwarelol09:44
sagacii prefer vi09:44
sagacivim09:44
iktvim ftw09:45
iktsee it even rhymes09:45
benonsoftware+109:45
sagaciikt, must be good09:46
sagacilooks to be out09:58
iktcan't get torrent10:09
iktnot authorised error10:09
iktTracker: [Failure reason \"Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker.\"]10:09
sagaciikt, just wget it10:09
ikttrying to set an upload record though10:10
sagaciahhh, release day... no updates available10:11
* md_5 slaps aarnet10:21
sagacihmmm, torrent file was legit10:23
sagacimd_5 aarnet slaps you back10:39
md_5awe10:39
md_5They finally fixed the debian sid mirror though10:39
md_5never replied to my email about it weeks back :(10:39
sagacievening jaddi27 10:55
jaddi27hi sagaci10:56
jaddi27not too long now until precise becomes 12.0410:56
sagacijaddi27, it's out10:58
sagaciI just rebooted into a clean install on my laptop10:58
jaddi27really? the ubuntu website doesn't show it as out10:58
sagaciof course it says that :P10:58
jaddi27i will check aarnet10:58
sagaciit's out there10:59
jaddi27yep10:59
jaddi27so, is 64bit still fine to use?10:59
jaddi27haven't had any problems with 11.10 64bit, apart from google dart (which is not built for 64bit)11:00
jaddi27sagaci, do you have a separate home partition to the rest of the install? If so (or if you know about it), is it fine to just wipe the 11.10 on the root partition and replace it with 12.04, keeping all the /home data?11:02
jaddi27i think it should be, but this is the first time i have upgraded with a separate /home11:03
jaddi27or would it be fine to just update the current install?11:03
sagaciyou can do it with a separate /home11:04
jaddi27ok11:06
jaddi27i presume clean install is better than upgrade?11:06
md_5yes11:07
jaddi27md_5, have you updated yet?11:08
md_5its not on aarnet11:08
md_5jaddi27 I will tomorrow, using it on my new laptop for the 1st time11:08
md_5yes it is actually (silly cache)11:08
jaddi27that sounds good. what laptop is it?11:08
md_5jaddi27 sagaci     I am waiting for later because there have been re seeds of the imgaes in the past11:08
md_5jaddi27   xps15z11:08
md_5I need to disable apic to make it boot (on beta 2 at least)11:09
BefficientSo much Aussie hate :(11:09
md_511.10 required disabling acpi which rendered it unusuable11:09
jaddi27md_5, should be a good laptop11:10
BefficientI dislike smearing Ubuntu's good name in hatrid11:10
md_5jaddi27 yeah I have had it for 5 months already11:10
md_5just not ubuntu11:10
BefficientSo.... multiarch on Ubuntu is complete?11:11
BefficientAny like... 64bit packages that are missing vs 32bit?11:11
md_5yep11:12
md_5Befficient mind you some asm programs are missing11:12
Befficienthmmm11:14
BefficientI generally use 64bit now for all OS11:14
BefficientPathscale won't even work on 32bit11:15
BefficientThat I know of11:15
Befficient<3 that compiler11:15
BefficientEkoPath11:15
Befficient ~40% ++ increase in application performance, simply by using Ekopath11:15
BefficientMy next thing is to try to get WINE compiled using Ekopath :)11:16
md_5Starting at $179511:16
md_5maybe I should add a freenode bnc, I like you guys.11:17
BefficientAhh he left :(11:17
BefficientWell... for what it's worth, Ekopath is now free11:18
Befficientunder GPL11:18
BefficientAt least the nightly is anyway11:18
BefficientDon't mean to spam, but I'll just leave this link here in case anyone else is interested in Ekopath compiler suite: http://www.pathscale.com/ekopath4-open-source-announcement11:19
BefficientUmm... I don't want to sound like an idiot, but can someone please explain what "Ubuntu Juju" is? I've read the Ubuntu Juju info page but ?????11:26
jaddi27d1b, in here11:47
sagaciit's pretty hectic until the people start downloading11:48
moldorhey gang - when the final release of 12.04 appears, what';s the best way of updating (I.m running RC2) - apt-get ??11:49
jaddi27i would have thought for a pre-release version, i would do a clean install11:50
jaddi27but sagaci might know better11:50
sagaciit's not officially out but the correct isos are up, if that makes sense11:51
moldoryeah, trying to avoid that but I guess that makes sense to do a wipe and install.11:51
moldorsagaci Yes, it does11:51
sagaciwell depends, if you're going to keep the install for years to come a reinstall now is worth your time11:52
moldorOn this laptop I'm hoping to - my daughter has stolen my MBP, and the work lappy is running *shudder* XP !!!11:52
sagaciXP? seriously?11:53
sagaciubuntu is surely a needed upgrade11:53
sagacilubuntu is chugging away at 20kB/s download11:54
moldorI wish... It's a Bank though... Wouldn't be too popular... And I'm running lubuntu too.. Quite snappy11:54
sagaciI don't like lubuntu for much other than netbooks11:55
moldorSeems OK on this HP - although I have an ASUS 1000HE that I might put it on too11:55
sagaciputting it on a desktop is like putting a single couch in a mansion11:55
MillenaireI bet they have the release anouncement all type up ready to go, ISO's all ready, mirrors are fully synced; but are sitting on the release, watching these chats, trolling us for the lol's11:56
Millenaire;)11:56
sagaciwell it's 11:56 UTC11:56
sagaciso technically ~8mins away11:56
moldorWouldn't do it on a desktop - Wonder if I could shoehorn it onto a Cobalt Qube ??11:56
sagacis/technically/guesstimatically11:57
MillenaireIn other news, I see Torchlight 2 is now available for pre-order on Steam11:57
moldorMust take a look... Would look good on the 55"... er, MONITOR...:-)11:58
sagaci~4 mins11:59
moldorsagaci It's up now I think12:00
MillenaireNope12:00
MillenaireNo announce, anyway12:00
sagaciubuntu.com is up12:00
moldorThis Ubuntu for Android... A product yet or just a concept ?12:01
sagaciconcept12:01
moldorDamn, I would so sacrifice an Android phone for that - or better still, my iPhone !!12:02
MillenaireMy Samsung Galaxy S II is very... laggy12:02
MillenaireAnd slow12:02
Millenaire:(12:02
MillenaireThe Samsung Wave was better12:03
sagaciI like the concept but would like to see it refined12:03
moldorSpecs on the S III look nice... I'm waiting for either that or the Galaxy Note12:03
MillenaireGalaxy Note = win12:03
sagacithe old show-stopper bug12:03
MillenaireCept Internetz on my S II died :(12:03
moldorAgreed - the UI would have to be radically redesigned to work on a phone - not impossible though... And the current replacement contender is the Note I think.12:03
MillenaireRELEASE!12:05
Millenairehttps://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-announce/2012-April/000159.html12:05
sagaciya12:05
sagacipeak hour traffic12:05
MillenaireYup12:05
moldorGonna have to see how it runs on the old Bondi Blue iMac.12:06
moldorBTW, know anyone in teh Sydney area that might want a Dell Poweredge 2300 server ?  Couple of Gig of RAM, 3 or 4 x 36Gb drives. Shoud still work, asn't been fired up for abbout 2 years12:14
MillenaireEy, now to wait 100 years while accessing the relevant *Buntu pagres12:17
Millenaire*pages12:17
moldoryeah, the thruput is rather minimal... Might be a weekend job for teh work network I think12:18
iktwould be good if we had this many people in here normally :P12:18
moldorJust found my next Open Source project - http://www.openpilot.org/12:22
jaddi27sagaci, time to hold a meeting to take advantage of all the people :P12:24
MillenaireWell, I promise to come in more often :)12:25
Millenaire12 years of Linux.... I don't gve back near enough :/12:25
dns53moldor it does sound like an interesting project12:25
moldorI also will frequent as much as I can12:25
Millenaire12.04 - probably the biggest distro release in history12:26
moldordns53: I've wanted a quadcopter for ages... The Mrs doesn't see the point (bloody Windows user !!), but it would be way cool if for nothing more than terrorising her cat !12:26
MillenaireI think Mr Ballmer should donate a server farm to Canonical for the next Buntu release ;)12:29
MillenaireA big one12:29
moldorOr a rack in the new Google data centre....12:30
MillenaireMind you, he'd probably want some patent rubbish deal in return12:30
moldorMillenaire: Or a new wig... or girdle12:31
MillenaireThink the the Iowa-consumer casr files say it all - public memos / emails from internal MS staff. One of them specifically states that... "Microsoft is only here to help Microsoft"12:32
Millenaire*case12:32
moldorMillenaire: Well, they got that right..12:32
MillenaireYup12:32
Termanamoldor, with a bit of work you could probably do the Ubuntu for Android thing yourself. Easiest way I would think of is, have an Android phone that outputs HDMI on the USB port (Galaxy Nexus does this for example) set up a chroot on the phone, and have bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Use VNC in Android to access you're chroot X. Not as elegant but you would get the same thing.12:39
Termanayour*12:39
moldorTermana: Certainly one way of doing it.12:40
moldorWork tomorrow... Out..12:45
dns53Termana well that is what it is (from what i can see), an ubuntu chroot set up with the display to output to hdmi12:55
MillenaireKubuntu site still down13:19
MillenaireOne would assume that Ubuntu could handle the 12.04 traffic :/13:19
MillenaireDoesn't take much to figure out that a load of people want this release13:20
MillenaireLove Ubuntu, but after 16 releases I just thought.......13:20
iktyeah same14:00
iktMillenaire, but they don't increase the bandwidth I think just because it's burst and for such a short amount of time14:00
iktin a few hours it'll be back to normal 14:00
iktinteresting, ubuntu up but kubuntu down14:02
MillenaireYeah14:02
iktin 2 hours I've uploaded more of ubuntu 12.04 than 11.10 and elementary os in the last 2 months14:03
=== sagaci_ is now known as sagaci
MillenaireQuestion: hid-logitech-dj - does this affect the G700 Wireless Gaming mouse?14:09
=== lubotu2` is now known as lubotu2
airtonixTermana: galaxy nexus only does video out via hdmi when it detects full screen video decoding17:25
airtonixi have one with a hdmi dock17:25
airtonixergo it's not a software decision to render the output via hdmi, but rather the gpu goes 'oh video decoding... derp engage hdmi'17:26
airtonixit's possible to use custom firmware to make the output on the phone screen duplicated out through hdmi, but it's really slow17:27
bradmI wonder where ikt gets the idea that we don't increase bandwith for release.. thats totally wrong, we definately do23:57
