DorwardAre there any Mythbuntu specific upgrade instructions? Or should I just follow the regular "upgrading ubuntu" path?15:23
tgm4883Dorward, you can't upgrade directly from Mythbuntu 7.1015:24
DorwardI'm on 11.4 now15:24
tgm4883Did you take a look at the known issues?15:25
DorwardYes15:25
tgm4883so  unless you are upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04, there aren't any known issues15:25
tgm4883also, you can't upgrade from 11.04 to 12.04 directly15:25
DorwardThat's an Ubuntu upgrade path rule, isn't it?15:26
tgm4883yep15:26
DorwardGreat. Thanks.15:26
tgm4883yw15:27
FabriceMGmythbuntu 12.04 is alway based on xbuntu, yes, no?15:32
tgm4883FabriceMG, not exactly15:33
tgm4883we use XFCE, but I wouldn't say we are based on xubuntu15:34
tgm4883it's not like we pull in all the xubuntu dependencies then add mythtv on top of it15:34
FabriceMGok, thx15:34
superm1FabriceMG: we have our own set of seeds, don't use the xubuntu seeds.  only common thing is XFCE15:36
FabriceMGgood job boys, many thanks for your job15:39
yunoshhi, re the known issues on http://mythbuntu.org/12.04/release: is the grub thing some intermediate issue? is there being worked on or is there some workaround?15:49
tgm4883yunosh, bug 97846415:50
ZinnBug 978464 in grub2 (Ubuntu) "Upgrade 10.04 to 12.04 Beta 2 failed, grub issue" [Critical, Confirmed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/97846415:50
yunoshthanks. that should be linked from the /release page15:50
tgm4883yunosh, it is, you should see it arrive in the next 15 minutes15:51
yunoshah :) too quick again...15:51
yunoshuhm "confirmed" and "critical" but "unassigned"? that doesn't sound good. milestone missed too.15:52
superm1yunosh: for a workaround, i bet you can probably grub-install after the upgrade but before the reboot15:57
yunoshyes, that's how in understand it from the report too15:58
yunoshi15:58
superm1yunosh: also worth noting, i didn't hit this on my upgrade or fresh install tests15:58
superm1*upgrade real hw or upgrade VM tests15:59
superm1but jya and mrand both hit it15:59
altjanyone else seeing problems with the torrent for mythbuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso?16:00
altjFailure reason "Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker."16:00
tgm4883superm1, are you able to test that?16:01
tgm4883^^16:01
superm1no i'm not able to16:01
tgm4883I just pulled it today from our release page, so it should work16:01
tgm4883altj, if you redownload the .torrent file does it work?16:02
tgm4883or does the i386 file work?16:02
altjthe i386 file works fine.  I downloaded both torrent files at the same time16:02
tgm4883weird the amd64 one doesn't work16:03
tgm4883can you try downloading it again, maybe it got corrupted during download16:03
tgm4883I'll try and find someone else to test that16:03
altjredownloaded, same error16:06
altjI've tested it from multiple systems and multiple locations16:06
altjfyi - tracker in the torrent is http://torrent.ubuntu.com:6969/announce (91.189.90.143)16:07
MTughanJust noticed a small "known bug" on the 12.04 download page that upgrading from 10.04 doesn't upgrade GRUB properly. Is there a workaround or fix to this issue? I notice someone just deleted their grub.cfg and rebuilt it to fix in the bug.19:06
MTughanAlso, what would choosing the 64-bit image give me over 32-bit?19:16
tgm4883MTughan, 64-bit binaries19:20
MTughanAny runtime advantages, at least in typical use as an HTPC box?19:20
tgm4883transcoding is faster19:21
tgm4883IDK if commflagging is faster or not19:21
MTughanMakes sense for the transcoding, although I use my desktop for that purpose.19:22
MTughanSo, just a fix for the GRUB issue then. Any ideas?19:22
tgm4883if you run into the issue, you'll need to install grub via a live disk19:23
tgm4883you might try the workarounds in that bug19:24
MTughanI'll give it a try anyways. Thanks for the help.19:31
embossHey, I'm trying to install 12.04 along side win7, I chose to install the bootloader on the same partition as myth but I don't get a grub menu. just boots straight into windows.19:32
MTughanA couple seconds before the Windows loading screen starts, what happens if you hold down the Shift key? It's possible that there's a 0 timeout on GRUB, so you're just not seeing it.19:33
embossI'll try that, I  thought grub would have made myth default.19:34
tgm4883emboss, do you have multiple hard drives?19:35
tgm4883MTughan, grub shows the menu if it detects another OS is installed19:35
embosstgm4883: There's a single sata disk, and a USB storage device attached19:35
MTughantgm4883: That's assuming the installer sets the timeout right. GRUB just takes whatever timeout is given from the configuration file.19:36
tgm4883MTughan, on a single OS setup, it skips it completely19:36
tgm4883on a multi OS setup, it shows the menu for 10 seconds19:36
tgm4883emboss, so you have multiple partitions and installed grub to the myth partition19:37
MTughanNo, it doesn't skip the menu on a single OS installation. I can attest to that from installing Ubuntu 11.10 in a couple VMs.19:37
tgm4883sounds like boot isn't even looking at it19:37
tgm4883MTughan, yes it does, unless you hold down the shift key19:37
embosstgm4883: Yep19:37
embossmyth is install on sda5 and bootlader here also19:38
tgm4883emboss, IIRC, you need to either A) install grub to /dev/sda or B) setup windows to know about the other OS install19:38
embosstgm4883: Windows bootloader can boot myth?19:39
tgm4883emboss, windows bootloader can point to another partition, which would then load grub, which boots linux19:39
embosstgm4883: got you19:40

MTughanJust a quick note about the website. All the links to ISOs have been updated to 12.04, but the MD5SUMS still points to 11.10.21:55
MTughanThe 12.04 MD5SUMS file is up, just the link isn't pointing to it.21:55
rhpot1991MTughan: thanks, I'll fix it22:10
