acmeinc1len, and whomever else i mentioned regarding my frequent freezes.  it looks like it is a hardware issue.  I sent my Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 back and I'm picking up a similar Asus.  I hope this corrects everything.  I am using an older Athlon II board now, which has been running smooth for just about 24 hours.  I am yet to test the bluetooth issues though04:28
daveyhey guys14:01
aramhi14:01
aramI have a problem with the PulseAudio -> Jack integration.14:01
daveywhat java plugins are available for browers? only one i can find icedtea keeps on crashing :(14:02
aramI have a M-Audio Profire 610 card (firewire).14:02
aramI use it with ffado in jack.14:02
aramand pulseaudio JACK sink looks like a 7.1 card.14:02
aramand pulseaudio uses all those channels.14:02
aramwhile I listen to stereo.14:03
aramit makes no sense, I don't mind if PA doesn't see all the channels this card has.14:03
arambut I want stereo music to remain stereo.14:03
aramany hints?14:03
len-dtaram, The only thing I can think is to turn down/off the chanels you don't want to hear with the pulse volume control.14:04
len-dtYou may have to unlock the link between chanels14:04
aramI did that but it's still not right. Only those 2 channels get any signal, but it's distorted, it's not the original stereo signal.14:05
aramisn't it possible to configure the number of channels the Jack sink has?14:05
len-dtI think it is, but I don't know how. I haven't really played around with it that much.14:06
len-dtHave you tried unconnecting the chanels you don't want in the jack connect box?14:07
aramwell yes, that mutes them, but the sound I get on the two channels I want still is not the original stereo source.14:08
len-dtI have a 4 track card... that looks like 10 channels in pulse-jack. I only have the two channels pulse uses for left and right connected to an amp and it seems ok.14:10
len-dtHow does it sound with just pulse and no jack?14:10
aramimpossible to tell, this card is not supported by alsa, it only works in Jack.14:11
len-dtAh, Which channels are you using for left and right?14:11
len-dtGotta go14:13
aramFront Left/Right are set in the PulseAudio thing and in Jack front-left/right are connected to firewire_pcm:..._Line_1_out and Line_2_out14:14
aramyou can set "enable-remixing = no" in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf.15:22
aramthat does it.15:22
aramthank you good people.15:22
mbeierlUsing qtractor on ubuntu 11.10, with TAP Reverb ladspa plugin.  The "reverb types" are listed only as numeric ids, not by name.  How do I find out which number corresponds to "large hall"?16:14
holsteini would use the original audio tool... my ear16:15
holsteinmaybe asking the developer though, or troubleshooting the issue16:15
holsteinmaybe someone in #opensourcemusicians knows?16:15
mbeierlholstein, thanks.  Unfortunately, I cannot get any of the TAP reverb settings to sound natural, so I was going through the docs, but my version doesn't line up with the docs from 200416:50
sirriffsalot_Hey guys! Are anyone here experienced in setting up guitar effects with ubuntu?17:06
sirriffsalot_If not, anyone aware of a/several guitar/effects IRC channel(s) in relation to Linux?:)17:07
mbeierlsirriffsalot_, what are you trying to do - record with effects, simply use the ubuntu box as an effect chain, or ...?17:20
sirriffsalot_mbeierl: well, I am curious as to how I would go about rigging guitarix or rakarrack, or any available open-source software to get as close to the guitar sound of the beginning guitars of a song called "The Chosen Pessimist" by In Flames:)17:23
sirriffsalot_mbeierl: no?:P17:41
holsteinsirriffsalot_: you'd just need to load it up and dial in what you want17:51
sirriffsalot_holstein: uhm, dial in what I want?:S17:51
holsteinthere are all kinds of combinations such as using both of those tools (rakarrack and guitarix) together, and/or another tool or more17:51
holsteinsirriffsalot_: correct17:51
holsteini dont think *anyone* will be able to tell you how to get the sound you are going for exactly17:51
holsteinhowever folks in #opensourcemusicians might be more helpful17:52
holsteindialing in the sound you want is usually considered part of the fun though17:52
sirriffsalot_holstein: hmm ok. well, I have no idea what I am after in terms of all the options... What are some other guitar sweeties in Linux except rakarrack and guitarix?17:52
holsteinsirriffsalot_: there are the actual affects you are going for17:53
holsteinthey are just effects, you can choose to use them on guitar or whatever17:53
holsteini use rakarrack on other things often17:53
holsteincompression is used.. gates... you name it, you can load it up and put it on your guitar and dial it in17:54
sirriffsalot_Hmm, alright:) Cheers mate17:54
holsteinsure17:54
holsteinlook at someones pedal board17:54
holsteinemulate17:54
holsteinask guitar players what they use and emulate that in the workflow17:55
holsteinsirriffsalot_: i would make it dead simple17:57
holsteini would grab a clip and put it up17:57
sirriffsalot_holstein: I don't know anyone playing guitar who use linux haha:)17:57
holsteinor link to a youtube vid17:57
holsteinsirriffsalot_: so17:58
holsteinsirriffsalot_: you just need to know the effect types17:58
sirriffsalot_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wye6CygA0Lc :P17:58
holsteinsirriffsalot_: then, by taking a logical leap, you can fill in that gear with effects from the FOSS toolkit17:58
holsteinsirriffsalot_: you should link that in the other channel is what im getting at17:58
sirriffsalot_FOSS toolkit..17:58
sirriffsalot_Doing that too17:59
holsteinright now, you are asking a lot of a random passer-by17:59
sirriffsalot_Alright!17:59
holsteinsirriffsalot_: thats really not much distortion18:00
holsteintheres a preset in rakarrack that'll get close to that though18:00
sirriffsalot_holstein: alright? Which one?:)18:00
holsteinthats almost clean18:00
holsteinsirriffsalot_: i dont know what its called18:00
holsteinand i dont have it pulled up18:00
holsteinagain... just go through til you get one close18:01
holsteinand then tweak from there18:01
sirriffsalot_Ok, in the "standard set" of rakarrack?18:01
holsteinyup18:01
sirriffsalot_Strange...18:02
sirriffsalot_I remember going through them a week and a half ago and not finding anything to my liking. Gonna look again in a while:)18:02
sirriffsalot_Cheers for the help mate!18:02
holsteinanytime!18:02
holsteinyou wont find that one18:03
holsteinyou'll find something with lowgain that you can tweak18:03
sirriffsalot_holstein: "won't find that one"?18:12
holsteinsirriffsalot_: you wont find a magic plugin that is *exactly* what you are looking for18:14
holsteinsirriffsalot_: imagin you are putting presets in a piece of software like that18:14
sirriffsalot_holstein: I get that of course:)18:14
sirriffsalot_holstein: just after a timesaver;D Cheers=)18:14
holsteinsirriffsalot_: right on... try that channel i mentioned18:15
sirriffsalot_holstein: did, but no reply haha:)18:15
holsteinsirriffsalot_: when i joined this channel, i waited liertally 2 weeks for a response18:25
holsteinthen, i just stayed and started answering questions18:25
holsteinthats why i suggest "self discovery"18:25
holsteinthats really what is going to get you exactly what you want in the end anyways18:26
sirriffsalot_Yeah, but it's kinda hard to answer questions when you never get help in finding the answers before that...18:26
sirriffsalot_The reason people ask questions here is to save lots of tireless googling I suppose...18:26
sirriffsalot_I love helping people so:P Been at #ardour for some time now18:26
holsteincool.. glad to have you.. we can use the help :)18:26
sirriffsalot_But yes, I agree about that, I know what you're saying;)18:26
foormeahi. i'm affected by a bug with pitivi the prevents me from rendering anything18:43
sirriffsalot_foormea: pitivi?18:43
foormeawhat are my options to do my rendering? i have no other workstation with another distro installed and i tried running ubuntu 11.10 in a virtual machine and no luck18:44
foormeapitivi, yes, simple video editing program18:44
holsteinfoormea: i would get the config out of the way... either remove or rename in your /home directory or try with a new user account temporarily18:44
holsteinfoormea: i wouldnt expect rendering in VM to go well18:45
foormeano no it's a known/reported bug18:45
holsteinfoormea: cool.. it rendered for me in 10.0418:45
foormeai'm just wondering if i could render using another program, but i don't know much abotu video editing file standards18:45
holsteinyou can try 10.04, or 12.04 is live18:45
holsteinfoormea: sure... choose one and give it a go :)18:45
holsteinoenshot and kdenlive are popular18:45
sirriffsalot_foormea: ah, cool. Will look into it, but can't help you there I'm afraid18:45
foormeaargh... reinstalling  a whole distro somewhere just to render something... :(18:46
holsteinopenshot*18:46
holsteinfoormea: sure.. or one of my other suggestions18:46
holsteinfoormea: i just wouldnt personally expect rendering in VM to ever go smooth18:46
foormeayeah18:46
holsteinim unaware of a bug,, and the 12.04 CD runs live18:46
foormeai'll do it with my work laptop later. got a 11.04 or somethig on it18:47
sirriffsalot_Is there a way of "saving" a ubuntu install on one computer and installing that copy on another computer?18:47
holsteinfoormea: srue.. or in the 12.04 live CD suggested18:47
holsteinsirriffsalot_: you can close... you can try moving the /home directory18:47
holsteinubuntuone sync is an option as well18:47
foormeaholstein: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pitivi/+bug/88279018:48
ubottuLaunchpad bug 882790 in PiTiVi "PiTiVi fails to render" [Critical,Confirmed]18:48
holsteinfoormea: im not going to be much help with that...im just saying it could be another issue other than a bug18:48
holsteinyou can try removing the config files, or one of the other things i suggested18:48
foormeaah okay. yeah i'll give it a try18:48
foormeathanks for yoru suggestions!18:49
holsteinfoormea: sure18:49
sirriffsalot_holstein: But that still doesn't save all my settings in terms of appearance et cetera:(18:49
holsteinsirriffsalot_: it saves what you like18:49
sirriffsalot_The home directory is just my files..18:49
holsteinsirriffsalot_: thats where those settings should mostly be18:50
sirriffsalot_holstein: in terms of appearance?18:50
sirriffsalot_Oh18:50
holsteinsirriffsalot_: should be... on a user level18:50
sirriffsalot_the .config etcc?18:50
holsteinyup18:50
sirriffsalot_Hmmm18:50
