[01:47] hdpvr? [01:53] tgm4883: you around? [01:54] i am currently on .24.2 and want to upgrade to .25 and am wondering what the best way to do that is [01:55] Shadow__X, yes [01:56] !repos [01:56] The Mythbuntu team provides updates for MythTV and Mythbuntu package using the Mythbuntu Repos http://mythbuntu.org/repos [01:56] yeah i am already on those repos [01:56] is it still recommended to do apt-get dist-upgrade [01:58] yes and no [01:58] it's never recommended to do a dist-upgrade unless you know what you are doing [01:59] but it's required to do it to go from 0.24 to 0.25 [01:59] or any new mythtv release [01:59] it was listed on this page http://www.mythbuntu.org/mythtv/0.25 [01:59] [www.mythbuntu.org] MythTV 0.25 has been released! | Mythbuntu [01:59] yep [02:00] not recommended, required [02:00] and that is just because of how apt works [02:00] oh ok i gotcha [02:00] currently making dinner, but i'll explain it later if you want [02:00] explain how apt works or how to upgrade? and thanks i appreciate the help [02:01] apt [02:01] oh ok yeah when you have time that would be helpful [02:03] just changed the repo to use .25 in mythbuntu control center. apt-get update then apt-get dist-upgrade time [02:08] Shadow__X, ok, done cooking for a few minutes [02:09] so with mythtv, most packages are named the same. There is one package that is always different though for major mythtv versions (libmyth-0.25.0) [02:09] during a regular apt-get upgrade, apt downloads and replaces packages that are already on the system [02:10] thanks for the help tgm4883. I am not sure why but t seemed like i just wanted to make sure i was doing things right. Mythtv has become so stabile i dont want to break it when i have eveyrthing working [02:10] a regular 'upgrade' though cannot install new dependencies [02:10] ah ok gotcha [02:10] that makes sense [02:10] so it will hold back packages, since it's not allowed to install new packages [02:11] a dist-upgrade is allowed to install new packages (or remove packages if there are new conflicts) [02:11] that is the basic difference between the two, and why it's always required when upgrading to a new major mythtv version [02:11] ah gotcha that makes sense c ompared to what i have seen when upgrading other packages [02:11] if you ever see held back packages, you can always use the -s switch with dist-upgrade to perform a simulated upgrade [02:12] it will go though the motions and you can see what it is doing [02:12] ah neat ok then i can sww whats changing [02:12] that way if it's trying to remove 90% of the packages, you know there is an issue and you don't want to do that [02:12] exactly [02:12] * tgm4883 dinnertime [02:13] thanks again and enjoy [03:04] and i am upgraded. Now i just need torc to get released [03:36] anyone using ltsp with ubuntu 12.04? [03:37] #join ltsp === amejia_ is now known as amejia === mycosys1 is now known as mycosys [16:36] Could anyone enlighted this Noob as to why Mythbuntu 11.10 keeps saying "Failed to probe" when I try to add a infinitv4 PCIe card as an IVTV MPEG-2 Encoder card? [16:37] why such an old mythbuntu? [16:37] I may have the version wrong, how can I check? [16:37] lsb_release -a [16:38] old? [16:38] old = not latest :) [16:38] it could just be missing the kernel modules for that device. [16:38] UForgotten, yes, but "such an old" sounds more like it's 8.04 [16:39] tgm4883: fair enough. [16:39] I was correct.. 11.10 what is the current version? I thought I had it. [16:39] when I do a lsmod ceton and ctn91xx are both there [16:40] and it shows up as using that driver on lspci -vvv? [16:41] it may not be looking in the correct device path [16:41] btw I'm a noob myself so ymmv [16:41] noob to mythtv, that is, been doing linux for 14+ years. [16:41] i told it '/dev/ceton/ctn91xx_mpeg0_0' [16:42] I have only been doing linux for a short time... still in college for CS [16:42] did you check dmesg/syslog to see if that's where it attached? [16:42] I am not sure what I am looking for in lspci -vvv [16:42] command [16:43] this may be easier, do lspci first, and find the device itself since that gives one line per device [16:43] then lspci -vvv > pciout [16:43] then open pciout and search for the line that matches the device from the simple lspci output [16:44] its not as important as just looking in the syslogs to see if it attached a device [16:45] Awe... I don't see anything releated to Ceton or ctn91xx.. but I see a 'Multimedia video controller' [16:45] you may have to put it in udev or something. Sorry but I gotta run, good luck [16:45] no prob. Thanks for the help! [16:46] the output from the driver in dmesg and /var/log/syslog may be more informative as to what it did after the module loaded. [16:46] let me check there [16:46] how do I check dmesg? [16:50] Ok.. in the syslog I have this warning "unknown ioctl on ctn91xx mpeg device (-2143521279)" [16:51] Does anyone know if this is the kernel headers problem? [17:03] qwebirc75179: did you install the drivers that were mentioned in the mythtv pages for that card? [17:04] http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Ceton_InfiniTV_4 [17:04] [www.mythtv.org] Ceton InfiniTV 4 - MythTV Official Wiki [17:06] I have read that, however I am confussed at the RTP part [17:08] I did install the drivers from the ceton webpage... no errors came up [17:09] in the dmesg it says unknown ioctl on ctn91xx mpeg device [17:11] Thanks for help guys, unfortunately I need to leave. Thanks! [19:54] Hi [19:55] Is it possible to use an usb card reader (with an original card) to decrypt a channel (cccam or so?)? [19:57] yogg, ask in #mythtv-users [19:58] kk thx [23:06] HDHR3-US on woot for $69.99 today http://www.woot.com/
