=== Fyodorovna is now known as wilee-nilee [03:46] When I restart ubuntu I loose internet connection. I can restart it by going to system setting/networking and turning it off and back on again but that is a hassle. [03:47] it started doing this after an upgrade from ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 [03:47] mr_gees100_peas: you can always go back to 11.10 [03:47] mr_gees100_peas: i would wire it up to internet, check for, and apply any upgrades [03:48] hopefully there will be a kernel update, or something that sorts you out [03:48] holstein: isn't there some setup somewhere where it will connect automatically? [03:49] going back to 11.10 seems kind of drastic. [03:49] mr_gees100_peas: maybe i missunderstand you [03:49] mr_gees100_peas: it will connect to the wifi, just not automatically? [03:49] mr_gees100_peas: thats usually related to the login [03:49] holstein: No not wifi. Its a wired connection through the ethernet port. [03:51] holstein: I can immediately regain connection by going to system settings/network and clicking the on/off button. [03:51] mr_gees100_peas: i would check for and apply any updates [03:51] holstein: Its like it is forgetting to restart itself. [03:54] mr_gees100_peas: well, its a machine.. just remember that it doesnt remember or forget [03:54] holstein: doing some updates now using the sudo apt-get update command. [03:54] holstein: is there a graphical way of doing this? [03:54] mr_gees100_peas: sure [03:55] you can use the package manager or your choice, or the upgrade manager [03:55] you'll need to run... [03:55] sudo apt-get update [03:55] then [03:55] sudo apt-get upgrade [03:55] holstein: what will it upgrade to? [03:56] mr_gees100_peas: ? [03:56] holstein: well it updated something. [03:56] mr_gees100_peas: sure, "it" updated the list of available pacakges from the repositories [03:56] mr_gees100_peas: nothing was upgraded yet though [03:57] holstein: oh ok. I'm upgrading now [03:59] mr_gees100_peas: dont expect this to "fix" anything [03:59] mr_gees100_peas: you can also try loggin in as another user [03:59] logging* [07:12] Hi, I was wondering whether someone could help me with a problem I have.
