user1234567hey00:48
Unit193Howdy.00:49
user1234567is there a "install lubuntu alongside windows" file?  like in ubuntu00:49
Unit193File? You mean option? And the installer is the exact same.00:50
pibarnasuser1234567: is there one in ubuntu? :/00:50
user1234567yea there's a exe file you can d/l and you can install ubuntu while on windows and it does everything for you00:51
Yosah wubi00:52
Unit193Wubi, I *highly* recommend you don't use that, with Ubuntu or Lubuntu.00:52
user1234567hmm ok,  I have another question, I plan to use lubuntu on this desktop with 3Gb of ram, I plan not to use swap, is that ok?00:57
sagaciuser1234567, surely is01:20
sagacialthough assigning 500mb to swap wouldn't hurt01:21
GridCubeuser1234567, no installer will let you install without a swap partition, you *need* one01:24
GridCubeits an ubuntu thing01:24
sagacijust assign all free space to /01:27
sagaciat least it used to01:28
keithclarkdownloading Lubuntu now.  It should be no problem to install along side Ubuntu, yes?01:28
Yoskeithclark, won't be a problem but you may want to use it live first to check it out01:29
keithclarkYos: done that!01:30
Yosthe installer in lubuntu is same as in ubuntu so it should be no problem to dual-boot01:31
keithclarkYos: Cool.  I've neve dual booted on this machine before.01:32
user1234567keithclark, I plan to do something similar but instead of alongside I'm gonna try to have lubuntu as main OS with virtualbox installed and have ubuntu in virtual01:36
keithclarkuser1234567: I had the opposite and it worked fantastic.  That is why I want to try for real.01:37
keithclarkuser1234567: My biggest worry is my wireless working01:41
user1234567did you try the wireless thing in virtual?01:42
keithclarkuser1234567: no01:44
keithclarkuser1234567: I'm not sure that is possible without the actual hardware01:45
Yosthat's why you should try the live cd first to see that everything is working01:45
Yosbut even that isn't full proof01:46
keithclarkYes, but dual boot should not be an issue.  Worst case wireless doesn't work and I have to boot to Ubuntu, no?01:47
Yosah, you have ubuntu already, then yeah01:47
user1234567what is the wireless thing? did it come with the pc  or01:47
Yosbut it should be fine01:48
keithclarkuser1234567: yes, emachines netbook.01:48
user1234567if it doesnt work you can try this tutorial: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#b43%20-%20No%20Internet%20access01:49

samuelusing the latest lubuntu. when i suspend computer and then wake it up the panel which shows open programs shrinks by 20pixels or so. when this is repeated several times. the icons gets so small (blank space in the middle of the panel) that it is impossible to click on the icons because they are crammed together09:08

murpleI'm trying to configure my locale and I've followed the steps detailed in this blog post: http://ccollins.wordpress.com/2009/01/06/how-to-change-date-formats-on-ubuntu/ . I believe I have done everything correctly, but the system fails to load "custom.UTF-8". I believe I need to edit something other than /etc/environment to use my custom locale. Can anyone help me?16:00
murpleAnyone? bioterror perhaps?16:07
bioterrorhmmm16:08

bioterrormurple, you did not fix it?16:46
murpleI did my best but failed?16:46
bioterrormurple, what's wrong with the locale16:51
bioterrorwhat you want to change so badly, that you wanted to create a custom locale16:51
murpleI have en_us.utf8 for LC_Time. I want to use 2012-05-12 format so I copied en_us.utf8 to custom.utf8 and modified it to my liking (changing time and date formats amongst other things). However, I'm not sure how to tell Ubuntu to use my custom locale.16:53
murpleI edited /etc/environment as shown in the post, but that doesn't seem to change anything.16:53
valdur55what you want?16:58
valdur55Do you want to change panel clock tooltip?16:59
murplevaldur55: I've already customized the panel clock to my liking, but I suddenly noticed the date/time format shown in file managers and Thunderbird and similar are not the way I want them to be.17:05

Yosyes, but first I have to find the trash bin lol17:13
bioterrorI have to admit that I have not that much messed around with the locales17:13
bioterrorwhat I have actually done is that I have edited en_US to show monday as a first day of week17:13
bioterrorinstead of sunday17:13
murpleright.... well... I suppose I could just backup the current locale and edit the actual file instead of trying to create and use a separate locale file.17:16

bioterroryou have compiled it yourself?20:36
|johnny|I was reading this20:36
|johnny|http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php?topic=5017.020:36
|johnny|No I didn't want to take chances just in case I had to remove packages. So I converted from rpm to deb using alien.20:37
|johnny|Because I couldn't find a deb of summoning wars20:37
bioterroroh dear20:37
bioterroryou could ln -s that .so.0 file into just .so20:37
bioterrorright?20:38
|johnny|Hmm haven't tried that. I did try the sed command20:39
|johnny|and it said it couldn't find sumwars20:39
|johnny|johnny@johnny-System-Product-Name:~$ sed -i 's/liblua5.1.so.0/liblua.so.5.1\x00/g' sumwars20:39
|johnny|sed: can't read sumwars: No such file or directory20:39
|johnny|But the thing is that sumwars can be typed from the command prompt20:40
|johnny|So its obviously there somewhere20:40
|johnny|./sumwars doesn't work but sumwars does20:40
|johnny|hmm let me see where sumwars is located20:42
|johnny|Prob somewhere in /usr/bin20:42
|johnny|Or something20:42
|johnny|yup I was right20:42
|johnny|Hmm well that didn't do any good20:43
|johnny|This seemed to go through: sudo sed -i 's/liblua5.1.so.0/liblua.so.5.1\x00/g' /usr/bin/sumwars20:44
|johnny|Yet still the same error20:44
|johnny|I think I have it wrong maybe?20:47
|johnny|sudo sed -i 's/liblua-5.1.so.0/liblua-5.1.so\x00/g' /usr/bin/sumwars20:47
|johnny|Maybe should be the opposite?20:47
|johnny|ah ok that worked20:48
|johnny|But now I got this20:48
|johnny|johnny@johnny-System-Product-Name:/usr/bin$ sumwars20:49
|johnny|Segmentation fault (core dumped)20:49

bioterrorthat's what you get when you play with .rpm's20:49
|johnny|Meh well least I know I was on the right path somewhat20:49

bioterror:D20:50
|johnny|Now its a matter of finding a deb20:50
bioterrorremove that symlink you made20:50
|johnny|Ooh yeah I made a couple of symlinks20:50
bioterrorremove that summoning wars package with apt-get purge20:50
bioterrorgrab 0.5.6 or something tar.gz20:50
bioterrorcompile it20:50
bioterrorand install it with the "checkinstall"20:50
|johnny|ahh20:50
bioterrorapt-cache show checkinstall20:50
bioterrorafter make20:51
bioterroryou do checkinstall20:51
|johnny|How would I remove each symlink?20:51
bioterrorit will create a .deb file and install it20:51
|johnny|ahh so each symlink I made even the correct ones have to be taken away20:52
|johnny|With rm -f20:52
|johnny|ah ok20:53
|johnny|sudo rm -f 's/liblua-5.1.so/liblua-5.1.so.0\x00/g' /usr/bin/sumwars20:53
|johnny|ok now20:58
|johnny|I'll install checkinstall20:58
|johnny|bioterror, so I would go ./configure, then make, then checkinstall?21:19
bioterroryes21:30
bioterroryou got it right21:30
|johnny|bioterror, one thing though21:32
|johnny|Theres no way to config that way and the command they give you doesn't work21:32
|johnny|They say to do this21:33
|johnny|cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr21:33
|johnny|make21:33
|johnny|sudo make install21:33
|johnny|However21:33
bioterrorand you dont want to make install21:34
bioterroryou want to checkinstall21:34
|johnny|ahh ok21:34
