bolosaurHi, I'm a first time lubuntu user and somewhat new to Linux as well. I'm trying to install some VM drivers on it20:22
bolosaurand I'm almost done, but it's asking me "what is the location of the gcc program on your machine?"20:23
bolosaurand i have no idea what to put20:23
bolosauri tried typing "which gcc" and it gives me nothing20:23
bolosauranything i can do to resolve this?20:23
wxlbolosaur: whereis gcc20:24
wxlshould be /usr/bin/gcc20:24
bolosaurit says its not a valid path to the gcc binary, evne though whereis gcc tells me so :(20:24
bolosaurI literally wrote "/usr/bin/gcc" as the path20:25
bolosaursans quotes20:25
wxltry /usr/bin/20:25
bolosaursame thing20:25
bolosauralso tried /usr/bin/gcc/ :/20:25
wxlmaybe just /usr/bin20:25
wxlwhat vm is this?20:26
bolosaurVMware Fusion20:26
bolosaurI've managed to install these drivers on both ubuntu and mint before20:26
bolosaurso i expected it to work on lubuntu as well20:26
wxlno experience20:26
bolosaurDang.20:26
bolosaurAlright, well thanks for taking the time.20:26
wxli'd use virtualbox20:26
wxldid you do whereis gcc?20:26
wxlmaybe you don't have gcc installed20:26
wxlseems strange20:27
bolosaurWell, I'm already running VMware Fusion for several other things, so I'd like to keep my virtualization flora under one app20:27
bolosaurAnd yeah I did wheres gcc20:27
bolosaurand it gave me the path you told me20:27
bolosaurbut perhaps its only partially installed somehow? or maybe outdated?20:27
wxlyou could update it for sure although that seems strange20:27
bolosaurapt-get update gcc?20:28
wxlhttp://communities.vmware.com/message/188349620:28
bolosaurWhat's libglib?20:30
bolosaurIs this something I should install?20:30
wxl!info libglib2.0-020:31
bolosaurSorry if that's a dumb question but I'm not very experienced with this.20:31
ubottulibglib2.0-0 (source: glib2.0): GLib library of C routines. In component main, is required. Version 2.32.1-0ubuntu2 (precise), package size 1160 kB, installed size 3768 kB20:31
bolosaurshould i specify the verison number? or is there a way to fetch the latest20:31
wxlthat will fetch the latest20:31
bolosaurok20:31
wxlubuntu, mint, lubuntu all use the same package management20:32
bolosaurit says libglib2.0-0 is already the latest version20:32
bolosaur:/20:32
wxlif you've done it there, it's the same as doing it here20:32
wxldid you update before ?20:32
bolosaur0 to upgrade, 0 to install and 53 to skip20:32
bolosaurnope, i just installed the OS20:32
wxlwell you wont' get the latest if you don't update :)20:32
bolosaurWell, what I mean is, I just did sudo apt-get update libglib2.0-020:33
bolosaurand it told me its already up to date20:33
wxlsudo apt-get update20:33
wxlfirst20:34
bolosauralright20:34
wxlthen you can do sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-020:34
wxli'd also do the same with gcc20:34
bolosaurok20:36
bolosaurone sec20:36
wxlyou can see gcc-4.7 gets installed http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/gcc20:38
wxl/usr/bin/gcc is a symlink to it20:38
wxlhonestly tho i think this is a vmware problem20:40
wxlbbl20:40
wxloh there is a #vmware channel20:42
wxlok gone for real20:42
bolosaurwxl: I got all the available updates20:47
bolosaurnow im trying again20:47
bolosaurdamn20:49
bolosaurits still complaining about gcc, wxl :/20:49
bolosaurbut thanks for the help20:49
Unit193Did you try #vmware? You could also try #ubuntu, though it's quite busy. (Never used vmware myself, so no good)20:50
bolosaurAlright, I managed to get it sorted with a different VM package.21:24
bolosaurThanks for the help guys, and especially wxl.21:24
Unit193Glad you got it then!21:25
bolosaurIndeed. Cheers!21:26
gnufunHello.  I am having trouble getting my Flash player to work.  I keep seeing "Missing Plugins" where flash content is supposed to be.  I have tried purging and reinstalling lubuntu-restricted-extras, installing flash-player-nonfree.  I even purged those and tried gnash, and got the same result.  I then installed Firefox and used the Flash extention that is supposed to retrieve the latest version for you, all with the same result: 21:41
Multbrelchgnufun, u mean u tried also: sudo apt-get update22:18
Multbrelchsudo apt-get clean22:18
Multbrelchsudo apt-get purge flashplugin-*22:18
Multbrelchsudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer22:18
Multbrelch?22:18
Multbrelchgnufun: What you can try for Mozilla is to copy libflashplayer.so into ~/.mozilla/plugins22:20
MultbrelchI had to this under ubuntu, when I had 10.10.22:21
MultbrelchAnyway ... good luck22:23
Multbrelchsry, need to sleep. To go further on, just google this libflashplayer.so, you find many hints and tricks ...22:24
gnufunMultbrelch: Hello.  Thank you for the reply.  Somehow I don't have that directory.  I only have firefox and extentions22:26
gnufunIf I go to about:plugins in chromium, there are three flash copies (Probably from all of the tinkering I have been doing)22:27
gnufunwhoops22:27
Multbrelchhmmm22:27
gnufunthat wasn't supposed to be a face22:27
MultbrelchI would de-install all flash..whatever and restart.22:28
Multbrelchrestart=re-install flash manually ... there are many infos in the net22:28
Multbrelchkeyword: libflashplayer.so22:28
Multbrelchlibflashplayer.so <= you get it from Adobe (I think)22:29
gnufunhow can I clean up that chromium plugins folder?  I have been looking for that location so I can delete everything from it22:29
apusateri/usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins22:30
gnufunWhen you say de install all flash, are you thinking: sudo apt-get purge lubuntu-restricted-extras flashplugin-installer22:30
Multbrelchfor instance ... but read before in the internet22:31
Multbrelchbtw: you get the file from here: http://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer/22:31
gnufunMultbrelch: All of the tutorials teach you how to do this for FF.  I haven't been able to locate the plugin directory for Chromium22:32
apusateri/usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins22:32
apusaterithat's the plugin directory for chromium22:32
MultbrelchAh, chromium ... I donno, I only know it for Mozilla22:32
gnufunahh thank you for that22:32
Multbrelch^^22:32
Multbrelchokay, need to go ... good luck22:33
gnufunlibflashplayer.so is listed in /usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins22:33
gnufunOk, thank you22:33
apusateriyou're trying to remove flash player?22:34
gnufunapusateri: Hello.  I am trying to get it to work.  I always see:  "Missing Plugin" wherever flash content should be22:34
gnufunI have purged and reinstalled lubuntu-restricted-extras and flashplugin-installer22:35
Unit193I always recommend adobe-flashplugin as it seems to work better.22:36
Unit193From the !partner repo  that is.22:36
apusaterithat's strange - i'm running a stock install of chromium os and flash is working without issue22:36
apusaterinot chromium os, chromium browser, durr22:36
gnufunapusateri: Yes, it is strange, because I installed it on a netbook last week and everything worked perfectly22:37
apusateriFYI my plugins directory is empty22:37
apusaterihave you tried uninstalling/reinstalling chromium, just out of curiosity?22:38
gnufunI have not tried that, but I did install FF, and I couldn't get Flash to work in that either22:38
apusateridoes this file exist on your system?22:40
apusateri/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so22:40
gnufunYes22:40
apusaterihmm - that's the only libflashplayer.so file that I have on my system22:41
apusaterican you go to chrome://plugins/ in your browser?22:42
gnufunYes, there are now 3 files listed under Flash22:43
apusateriHere's the one that I have:22:43
apusateriFlash - Version: 11.2 r202 Shockwave Flash 11.2 r20222:43
gnufunShockwave Flash 11.2 r20222:44
apusateriall three say that?22:44
gnufunYes22:44
apusaterihow about a $locate libflashplayer.so22:44
apusaterito find out where the other ones are hiding?22:45
gnufun/usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so22:45
apusaterii thought you had one here?  /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so22:46
gnufunsteven@ach-chiro-1:/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer$ ls22:47
gnufuninstall_plugin  libflashplayer.so22:47
gnufunI know we aren't supposed to do that22:47
gnufunsorry22:47
apusaterimeh, no worries22:48
apusaterii assume you've tried disabling the plugins on the chrome://plugins/ page?22:48
gnufunBut yes, it is strange that it is listed there, but didn't show up in the $locate commandc22:48
apusateriyeah that's weird for sure22:48
gnufunI could disable them.  Which one should be enabled?  The top one?22:49
apusateriyeah just leave one of them enabled, shouldn't matter which22:49
Farrell_hi22:53
Farrell_i have a problem22:53
Farrell_i cant choice size of partition22:53
Farrell_https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4elpabxpZWZUTRWei1KNEN4VW8 https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4elpabxpZWZbWRoM1N1cjlLWkE https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4elpabxpZWZTnY2Zjg3ZFZKZFE22:53
gnufunI think we are getting somewhere, because now it asks me for permission to run the plugin.  I clicked enable, but it doesn't play22:53
apusateriokay now check your chrome://plugins/ again and see if there is more than one enabled?22:54
gnufunjust one is enabled.  That is good.22:55
apusateriwish i knew how to repro the problem so i could mess around with it here, lol22:56
apusateritry enabling the second one and disabling the first, and trying flash again?  just to see if one of the plugins is behaving badly?22:56
n1ckn4me09876543where will i find System Icon Theme   location path?  I can change the icons from Applications menu fine, but I'm trying to change icon from a program- Cairo Dock and it ask me for icon path and idk22:59
gnufunI get similar behavior.22:59
apusaterin1ck: n1ckn4me0987654323:00
apusaterierr23:00
apusateri/usr/share/icons23:00
apusaterin1ckn4me09876543: that's where the icons are23:00
n1ckn4me09876543apusateri: thank you23:00
apusaterignufun: I'm running out of ideas... might just be easier to re-install chromium browser, see if that fixes it?23:01
apusaterin1ckn4me09876543: no prob23:01
gnufunapusateri: Ok, thank you for the suggestions.  I will try that23:02
