nerdistmonkcan someone help, i just updated to pulseaudio 2.0 on xubuntu 12.04 and ive lost sound01:32
Unit193Dang, just pulled up a very handdy link too. :(01:41
genii-aroundPerhaps post it anyways for educational purposes.01:41
quentin_hello, I need help with MyPaint, I really like the program and it works well on my UbuntuStudio, but in Xbuntu 12.04 It works but only as long as I keep my cursor on the canvas, as soon as It touches any thing but it stops drawing, every thing else works but it just does not draw.03:53
quentin_this is an issue because I often wish to change brushes but this limits me to one.03:54
quentin_I am running on a rather old toshiba laptop using a default Hp lazer mouse.03:55
holsteinquentin_: i would launch it from the terminal and see if you see any messages that help03:58
holsteini would probably look for a newer version and try it03:59
quentin_ok what would I type in terminal?04:00
holsteinquentin_: i would start with mypaint04:00
holsteinyou can type my and hit tab... see what comes up04:00
quentin_well now I feel silly for asking04:01
quentin_Ignoring "USB Optical Mouse" (probably a mouse, but it reports extra axes) device change: Core Pointer <enum GDK_SOURCE_MOUSE of type GdkInputSource>04:01
holsteinthats probably something for the bug report... are you using the latest from http://mypaint.intilinux.com/04:03
quentin_yup just reinstalled nothing, I guess but report.04:08
holsteinquentin_: bug*04:08
holsteinyou can try an older version... you can try the windows version in wine04:09
holsteinyou can take this opportunity to file a bug report and start using GIMP04:09
=== `mOOse` is now known as m00se
quentin_I have gimp but MyPaint is ideal for me, gimp is just for correcting my mistakes.04:16
holsteingimp is, and likely always will be well developed04:17
holsteinuse what works for you... im just saying, it is the tool we have that is well developed04:17
AzelphurI installed this theme http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/AdwaitaWolfe?content=143354 and most things are unthemed, any ideas?04:27
Unit193It's because you need one that supports GTK3 as well.04:28
laiteUnit193: that theme seems to have gtk3-configs in it04:28
Azelphurindeed, that theme is categorised as a gtk 3 theme04:28
Azelphurstuff that is themed: file-roller, gnome system monitor. Stuff that isn't: Pidgin, thunar04:29
Azelphursome examples \o/04:29
AzelphurI dunno actually, in pidgin and thunar the menu bars are themed, but everything else seems not to be04:29
AzelphurI'll try a different theme, maybe it's just that theme04:30
Unit193That theme didn't have xfwm and such in it though.04:31
Azelphurah04:32
AzelphurUnit193: I'm using compiz instead of xf4wm04:32
Azelphuryea, same issue with another gtk3 theme I downloaded04:34
Unit193Shimmer always worked best for me, but there was another that wasn't bad.04:34
Unit193"Zukitwo"04:34
Azelphurhehe, got a link to shimmer?04:35
Unit193http://shimmerproject.org/04:36
Unit193They are the default ones, and one that isn't ready yet but I use. :P04:36
Azelphurfun04:36
Unit193I "need" a dark theme, so Blackbird turned out well, even though it's not quite ready.04:37
AzelphurI'm even worse, I "need" a theme that has totally black backgrounds, ie #000, not grey :)04:40
AzelphurUnit193: do you mean greybird?04:43
Unit193That's not a bad theme, but no.04:44
Azelphurwhere's blackbird at? :)04:44
Unit193Their github page.04:44
Azelphurcool, ty04:45
Unit193Note, it's not done and a few things are off, or black on black.04:46
Azelphurhaha, blackbird has exactly the same issue as the dark them I tried first04:48
Azelphurlots of white everywhere :(04:48
Unit193Weird, I have full black.  Seems like a compiz thing then.04:51
Azelphurmaybe, Atolm-gtk3 works04:51

NinoHello, what does this information in synaptic means? It shows sometimes when i install packages  in synaptic(when everything installed this shows in synaptic console-log at bottom but not every time ) : W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but it wasn't there - dpkgGo (10: No child processes)13:13
craigbass1976I don't know Nino, but I've noticed the GUI package manager farting out more lately and just to a apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, which seems to go better for some reason.13:18
craigbass1976and just DO a, not just TO a.  SOrry13:18
Nino@craigbass1976  I agree,it is best way t install by apt-get update trough console... But funny thing is that everything installs normal trough synaptic also, but sometimes randomly this bug or information just reveal it self at the end of line in synaptic console :)13:21
craigbass1976No idea.  Just smile and say "Well, it could be Windows..."  :)13:22
NinoLol... :)13:23

TheMasterThis is booting from the LiveCD?16:07
chestwood96yes the cd ive burned from that iso i downloaded16:08
chestwood96the computer seems to be working i just kant see anything16:09
TheMasterThink it'd be good to try one of the other boot options.16:09
TheMaster!bootoptions16:09
ubottuFor a list and explanation on some of the boot options, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions See also !nomodeset.16:09
chestwood96how should i doo that it boots from the cd then there is a loadescreen and then no signal16:10
chestwood96i dont realy understand that16:12
TheMasterWhen/before it starts booting, hold the shift key and you should get the chance to set those, will have the info at the bottom of the scree.16:18
chestwood96sorry the internet crashed16:26
chestwood96an external cd drive caused the same problem16:27
chestwood96did you have any soloutions i missed?16:28
holsteinchestwood96: personally, when i am in your situation, and feel arguably "underskilled", i try live CD's.. i try the LTS releases.. ubuntu 10.04 and 12.0416:28
holsteinchestwood96: its likely that nomodeset will help for you.. you need to press shift when booting, and F6 will give you the option to add "nomodeset"16:28
holsteinget a live CD booting live, then go from there :)16:28
chestwood96ok thanks ill try16:29
TheMasterOr just go with an alternate, but it's nice to know that it works beforehand.16:29
chestwood96alternative?16:29
bazhang!alternate | chestwood9616:30
ubottuchestwood96: The Alternate CD is a classic text-mode install CD. It supports a wider range of hardware than the !LiveCD, and can also be used as an upgrade CD. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/alternative-download#alternate - See also !minimal16:30

chestwood96looks good lets see if it works thanks anyway16:32
SandJchestwood96 - do you have a video output on the motherboard and another video output from a graphics card?  If so, when the screen disappears, plug the monitor into the other socket.  (I had that problem.)16:34

Sandro_hello16:39
chestwood96hi16:39
Sandro_i'm looking for some help since no one respond to me on #ubuntu i came here :)16:40
SandJWhat's the problem, Sandro_16:40
Sandro_My Amazon server has an issue with 100% inode, >>> we are looking to supress a directory which contain thousand of files in it ... but rm-rf * doesn't respond atm16:40
Sandro_what could i do ?16:41
chestwood96nomode didnt work ill try the alternativ16:41
Sandro_we are running on an Ubuntu dsitrib16:41
SandJDoes the "rm -rf *" go away and not come back, or come back straight away?16:45
Sandro_nothing16:46
SandJWhat do you mean by "nothing"?16:46
Sandro_it just doesn't respond ... and ctrl+c respond instantly16:46
Sandro_we waited about 1hour straight  the command just doesn't come back16:47
SandJDo you have thousands and thousands of files on there?16:47
Sandro_yes16:47
TheMasterTry rm -rfv see if you have any output.16:47
Sandro_Huge news +Portal16:47
TheMasterAnd SandJ is hinting that it would take a while the more files you have.16:48
Sandro_yeah we know about that :/ that is why we are looking for a dirrent way to supress the content16:48
Sandro_rm -rfv does respond but doesn't do anything16:48
Sandro_we are currently creating an other volume  in case we don't find any solutions... but it's quite a pain in the ass :'(16:50
TheMaster"does respond but doesn't do anything"?16:50
TheMasterAnd using Xubuntu on a server isn't really the best idea.16:50
Sandro_like i said earlier we are not on xubuntu but since no one respond on the other IRC chann i came here :)16:51
TheMasterBest bet would be to try #ubuntu-server, ask, then wait a bit.16:52
SandJI last saw this problem some years ago on a HP-UX Unix box that had a stupid huge number of files.  Deleting the files in batches was the solution, e.g. rm a*   rm b*   rm c*   and so on, such that each rm command only deleted a few hundred files at a time.16:52
SandJDo you want the entire file system wiped, because that would be very quick.  :-)16:53
Sandro_we tried this also >> dind't work16:53
SandJAlso, how about copying off the files you want to keep, then recreating the file system?16:53
Sandro_we are currently doing this ^^16:53
SandJSo what does   rm -rv *   do?  Does it come straight back to the command prompt, or does it list files, or does it seem to do nothing and you have to do a ^C?16:56
Sandro_it seems to do nothing16:58
SandJI wonder if this would work any better:     find . -exec rm {} \;17:03
SandJOr:    find . -exec rm -v {} \;17:04
Sandro_Thx for your help ^^but our team leader decided to stop this non sense and just focus on the creation of  a new file system :/17:06
Sandro_it has been a pleasure and again thx for your answers17:07
SandJIt's a shame he went.  I just created 300,000 random files and worked out rm would appear to do nothing while this command would work a treat:    find . -exec rm {} \;17:14
SandJIf only he'd waited another few hours on his rm command, he would have been rewarded with 'bash: /bin/rm: Argument list too long'17:17
drcno xubuntu alpha this time?17:46
bazhangdrc, #ubuntu+1 for 12.10 , if that's what you mean17:47
drcthat's what I meant, but don't need help, just wondering why no alpha?17:47
TheMasterdrc: No there isn't, not enough testing.17:48
drcSounds like a good reason to me.17:48
bazhangthere's the daily build17:49
drcwait...does that mean not enough testing was dome to warrent an alpha, or not enough changes that need testing to warrent an alpha?17:49
TheMasterbazhang: No there isn't, not of live. ;)17:50
TheMasterdrc: Not enough testers, if I understood.17:50
