Kilosjust refresh me on the open id thing please is it http:launchpad.net then ~mail addy06:45
Kiloseish http://launchpad.net~mail06:46
sflrsuperfly: The main problem was that it is a re-occuring meeting, and Google creates events up until year 2045! I think the script just bombs out. I also created a new Ubuntu-za calendar, and set the right time-zone, etc. I set the meeting to end in 3 years time06:46

inetprocharl: wb12:42
Kiloshow far is that from melbourne. saw inna mail from facebook tara says house shook some but nothing broke12:42
Kilosty inetpro 12:43
inetproKilos: ...Today’s earthquake struck near the southeast coast of Australia 10 km southwest of Moe, the closest population centre, and 120 km southwest of Melbourne,...12:44
inetproAccording to the USGS, the earthquake struck at a depth of 9.9 km, making this a shallow event. Shaking lasted for 30 to 40 seconds, according to local accounts.12:44
Kilosoh my just memebered melbourne is in vic state12:44
charlthanks inetpro 12:46
charlwow that sounds bad12:47
charl5.3 ... well it could have been worse...12:47
Kilosyeah small one12:48
sflrthat's the same earthquake. it was on tuesday, 19th12:48
charlyeah that shouldn't have created any serious damage12:48
sflrhttp://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usb000ajek#summary12:48

Kiloswhew not lekker12:51
sflryes, baby earthquakes12:51
charlhmmm12:51
sflrthat australian earthquake is really strange12:51
inetprosflr: hmm... you sure that's the same as Tuesday?12:51
charlsflr: i don't think japan worries too much about earthquakes... i think it's the tsunamis that create the big problem12:52
charlon the positive side, they are well prepared for those12:53
inetprothat article is dated today12:53
charlbut if a really big one comes... well we saw what happens then12:53
sflryes inetpro, but USGS has the real time tracking. the time is the same. and i searched for Air Worldwide australia earthquake and news posts came up from the 20th with the same details and times.12:54
inetproyikes!12:54
sflrsounds like a dodgy site: http://www.newsinsurances.co.uk/. haha12:55
inetproI hate it when people publish articles referring to today without specifying it correctly12:55
inetprosflr: true12:56
sflrits for SEO. lol12:56
inetproKilos: what did Tara say? when did she feel the shaking?12:58
sflrthere were many aftershocks, inetpro look at this, beginning almost funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk5O1yzmqa0 (5.2M - Biggest Quake to Hit Victoria, AU in 30 Years - June 19, 2012)13:01
KilosKrice Verta13:05

charlhave any of you seen this film http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1414378/14:09
charlTracker (2010)14:09
psydroidI have the funny problem that Ubuntu 10.04 works better with my wireless network card in my laptop than 12.04, so I'm multibooting between both releases14:09
charlpsydroid: what type of wireless card do you use?14:10
charli assume it's an on-board interface, not really a card :)14:10
Kilosinetpro, superfly please can you give me a link for the kubuntu 12.04 iso14:11
Kilosfor ian14:11
inetprohmm... hang on14:12
Kilosor one of you other guys if you got it for me14:12
Kilosty14:12
inetproKilos: 32bit or 64bit?14:12
charlyeah was just about to ask the same question :)14:13
charlhttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/precise/release/kubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso14:13
Kilos32 please14:13
charlhttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/precise/release/kubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso14:13
charlthe second one then14:13
Kilosty14:13
charlwhile on the topic, why isn't 12.04 on the za mirror http://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-release/kubuntu/ ?14:13
charllast version on there is 11.1014:14
charlKilos: i assume you wanted the link to the desktop iso, not the alternate one?14:14
inetproahh, charl beat me to that14:14
* inetpro was trying to find it on the za mirror14:14
charlKilos: the alternate is the one with the text installer14:15
Kilosty charl. have you got the alt one too?14:15
charlKilos: one sec14:15
Kilosya its your working time inetpro 14:15
Kilosso you forgiven14:15
charlhttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/precise/release/kubuntu-12.04-alternate-i386.iso14:15
inetprolol14:15
Kilosty charl 14:16
charlnp14:16
inetprocharl: perhaps Symmetria can load it for us when he's got more disk space14:17
charlinetpro: oh yes, forgot about that already14:17
charli would really like to know what is the difference between the ubuntu "amd64 mac" and "amd64 pc" builds14:18
charli always ran the regular amd64 builds on my macbook14:18
inetprocharl: http://askubuntu.com/questions/37999/what-is-different-about-the-mac-iso-image14:19
Kilosis that amd cpu specific or will it be fine on intels too14:19
smilebrb14:20
inetproKilos: should be fine on intel14:20
charlinetpro: ah that's very interesting, thanks14:20
Kilosty inetpro 14:20
charlso it's all got to do with booting14:20
charli never had any issues with booting the regular amd64 builds, as a matter of fact, i did try the amd64+mac build once and i couldn't get it to boot14:20
charlbut that all makes sense then, i think i have too new a version14:21
charlthe instruction set should be identical to the pc because my macbook had a regular intel core i5 processor14:21
inetprocharl: interesting indeed14:21
* inetpro stays as far as possible away from mac 14:21
charlgenerally i do that as well but i used to work for a company where everyone used a mac14:22
charlso i also got one (paid for by the company)14:22
inetproand the worst of it all is the mouse14:22
inetproI can't stand that thing14:22
charli would never blow a ton of money on a (mostly) standard intel-based chipset with a nice casing14:23
charli totally agree with you regarding the mouse, i used one for 30 mins and my hand got a cramp, no kidding14:23
charlthe keyboard is also extremely "flat"14:23
inetprofor the nstuff I do I really don't need a mac14:23
inetpros/nstuff/stuff/14:24
sflrthats lots of stuff. haha14:24
inetprosflr: exactly :-)14:24
inetprobut everyone else is welcome to use a mac14:24
charlthe macbook has a nice large touchpad, so that's a positive, but you can't replace the battery without opening the whole thing up14:25
charlthat is completely braindead14:25
charlthe battery is the #1 thing you replace in a laptop and on a normal laptop you can just "click" the thing off14:25
inetprocharl: no, it's called lock-in14:25
charland if you dispose the laptop, the lithium ion battery needs to be treated as chemical waste14:26
charllol yeah a proprietary lock-in14:26
sflrcharl, that's how they make you buy new one. I stopped using Apple products as soon as my Ipods battery died and found out the solution is to buy a new one.14:26
charlbah14:26
SmilyBorgapparently the battery is glued in in the new retina display mac book pro14:27
charland then they have it about pollution and wasting the world's resources14:27
charlSmilyBorg: oh that is so evil14:27
SmilyBorgyup14:27
Kilossjoe14:27
sflrspecially that glue. is hazardous. haha14:27
inetproSmilyBorg: don't tell Symmetria14:27
charlthe apple has gotten rotten :)14:27
inetprohe loves the mac :-)14:28
SmilyBorgand the ram is soldered to the motherboard so you cant upgrade14:28
charlSmilyBorg: a couple of months ago i was looking at buying one of the new acer ultrabooks14:28
charlSmilyBorg: i got a demo model to play with, it was super light and i was quite keen to buy one14:29
charlSmilyBorg: then i decided against it for that exact reason - the ram is on-board and there are NO expansion slots14:29
Kilosok who can modify this command to update the iso?14:29
Kiloszsync -i ubuntu.iso http://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-release/precise/ubuntu-12.04.1-Desktop-i386.iso.zsync14:29
charlSmilyBorg: i do a lot of virtualisation and would like minimally 8GB of ram, preferably more14:29
SmilyBorgya. ultrabooks are nice and they have their purpose, but they are not for everyone14:29
charlyup14:29
SmilyBorgya, same here14:30
charlKilos: sorry what exactly are you trying to do?14:30
SmilyBorgI'll deal with a bigger machine just to have 8-16GB ram and 700GB+ of hard drive14:30
Kilosupdate a downloaded iso before burning to cd charl 14:30
inetproKilos: I think that link should be http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/precise/release/kubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso.zsync14:31
psydroidcharl, hi, Sitecom WL-180 v1 001 "Wireless Network 300N Cardbus Card"14:31
charlupdate the iso... ok14:31
Kilosty inetpro 14:31
inetproKilos: but hang on14:31
Kilosyes?14:31
* Kilos hangs on14:32
inetprowas that original kubuntu or ubuntu?14:32
charloh now i see, sorry never used the zsync command before, had to go look it up14:32
charlmakes sense now14:32
inetproKilos: and what version?14:32
Kiloshe will download the 12.04 iso then we want to update it before burning to cd14:32
charlSmilyBorg: actually i don't really know if it matters that much anymore, i want to move my virtual machines onto a central server so i can use a smaller laptop14:33
Kilossame as i did with lucid14:33
inetproKilos: updates are not part of the release cd14:33
charlSmilyBorg: i'm connected pretty-much everywhere i am in any case so with rdp and ssh i can do whatever i need to do remotely14:33
psydroidhi inetpro14:33
psydroidhoi smile14:33
SmilyBorgcharl: that works for me when I'm at home or the office, but not when I'm mobile14:33
inetpropsydroid: hi14:33
inetproeish! my day not over yet14:34
* inetpro bbl14:34
SmilyBorgI prefer having too much power rather than not enough14:34
charlSmilyBorg: yeah, same here, i guess i'm just not "mobile" that much anymore, used to travel a lot but now it's just the 10-min commute between my home and office every day14:34
charlthat's true14:34
charlpsydroid: ah i see, i never really used that particular card14:35
SmilyBorgcharl: ya, I'm mainly home or office bound these days, but I'm looking at running some classes soon so big laptop, or small laptop and drag small servers along14:35
charlbah dragging servers along is a pain14:35
charlespecially on an airplane14:36
charltoo heavy as well14:36
SmilyBorgya14:36
smilehoi psydroid :)14:36
SmilyBorgI'm using HP MicroServers  at the moment for test environments which are fine for draging around town, but not on a plane14:37
charlah interesting14:38
Kilosinetpro, when you get back. that zsync command might work once kubuntu is on our mirror14:43
inetproKilos: yes but there will be no difference14:44
charlyeah i don't see the difference either to be honest14:44
Kiloswhen i used it on lucid it got 200m of updates remember14:44
inetproKilos: that's because there was an old version and a new version14:45
Kiloscocooncrash, will have to explain it to you guys14:45
inetprothere was a 2nd release14:45
Kiloswas updating the iso taken off the cd from canonical14:45
inetproKilos: in fact there was 4 releases of Lucid14:47
inetproor is that 5 even14:47
Kilosok if one downloads and iso now of 12.04 is it the same as whats on the official cd?14:48
inetpro10.04, 10.04.1, 10.04.2, 10.04.3 and 10.04.414:48
inetproKilos: yep14:48
inetprothere's no 2nd release yet14:48
inetprobut there are many updates14:48
Kilosso then the zsync command should fetch updates for that iso14:48
inetproKilos: no14:48
Kilossjoe14:49
inetprozsync is really useful for updating releases, especially daily snapshots during development14:50
inetprobut real releases don't come that often14:50
Kilosoh is that only for like 12.04.114:51
Kilosetc14:51
inetproKilos: yebo yes14:51
Kilosso when will that be released14:51
Kilosthat will be once lotsa bugs are repaired hey14:52
sflrthere were tons of updates since 12.04 release. I get updates almost every day14:53
Kilossjoe14:54
inetproKilos: according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseSchedule?action=show&redirect=PreciseReleaseSchedule Ubuntu 12.04.1 should come on August 23rd14:54
Kilossjoe thats still a while ty inetpro 14:55
inetproand Ubuntu 12.04.2 on 31 January 201314:55
inetproand Ubuntu 12.04.3 on 15 August 201314:56
Kiloslol14:56
inetproand Ubuntu 12.04.4 on 24 January 201414:56
inetproKilos: and that is only because it is a LTS release14:57

sflrsuperfly: there are many feeds aggregated on the site but some are dead links. are the feeds still being imported into the site?15:43
superflysflr: uh, I'll have to have a look. Are the links to the blogs themselves dead, or are the links in the feeds bad?15:44
superflyi remember maiatoday's blog was a little weird15:44
sflrsome links to the blogs. few crons have an exclamation marks next to them15:45
