ntwrk_keithgot a question16:44
ntwrk_keithI have 2 shares, one which I want users who are in smbpasswd to be able to access it and another share where I only want 1 specific user to be able to access it16:44
ntwrk_keithis there a way to specify this in smb.conf?16:45
The_Other_GuyKeith: You may wish to ask this question in #ubuntu as well.16:46
Mindstarhey guys17:05
MindstarI have an issue installing the newest version of Ubuntu desktop, where I install from my disk without an issue, but then it boots and gives me a black screen where I can see the mouse17:06
Mindstarthere is some mention on the monitor prior to the black screen about display incompatibility, so I assume it is driver related, but how can I install drivers if I cannot get to the desktop>17:07
The_Other_GuyMindstar: Boot from a live cd and install drivers from there.17:08
MindstarOk, getting the right drivers involves what?  Just updating everything as it asks, or doing something more complicated17:10
escott!nomodeset | Mindstar you might try this17:12
ubot2Mindstar you might try this: A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter17:12
Mindstarso basically just activate the nomodeset deal?17:16
alo21hi all17:30
alo21I would like practice on triaging bugs17:30
nhandleralo21: Cool. Have you read the wiki pages about triaging?17:52
alo21nhandler: yes17:52
nhandleralo21: Any particular type of bugs you want to triage?17:53
alo21nhandler: I do not know where start17:53
nhandleralo21: I would either pick a type of bug from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage/ or a package that you are very familiar with17:57
alo21nhandler: what do you mean with "type of bug"?18:03
nhandleralo21: Look at the table of contents on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage/. Anything that is a sub-category of '1. Bug types'18:04
xworldhello guys !! I got an HD 1890 p  movie but when i open the movie in vlc the video is were highly jittery and the audio seemed to be plagued with something that seemed to be white noise  (sounds like white noise, but it definitely is not white noise). I was using VLC media player for playback18:25
nhandleralo21: Once you start, feel free to poke me if you need the Importance of a bug changed, the status set to Triaged, or any other restricted action. I can also review changes you make to bugs19:05
alo21nhandler: ok, thanks19:37
RyoshiaI have a question..20:09
RyoshiaHow would I go about using User Created themes?20:09
RyoshiaBecause I have been to Gnome Look, the website, found one that I liked, but when I followed the instructions I was told by Ubuntu that I didn't have the permissions necessary to do what I was trying to do20:10
Unit193You normally place such themes in ~/.themes and select them using the Appearance manager.20:11
Ryoshiathat's a hidden directory right?20:13
Ryoshiabecause I thought I've read somewhere that if there's a period before the directory's title that it was considered hidden by the operating system..20:13
Unit193Correct, and you may have to create it.20:14
Ryoshianow, would that be created in the root, or where would I create that directory, if there is non?20:14
Unit193~/ indicates home, so /home/Ryoshia/.themes for example.20:15
stlsaintUnit193: poke20:16
Unit193I be here.20:17
stlsaint-team please20:17
Ryoshiait didn't show up in the appearance manager20:24
Ryoshiawhat I did was took the unpacked folder with all the contents of theme and dropped it ~/.themes to no avail20:24
RyoshiaWas intially trying to do this with Gnome-Tweak-Tool, but to no avail as well20:25
Unit193What's the link to the theme, and can you ls ~/.themes and paste to pastebin.com?20:26
stlsaint+1 on providing the gnome look link20:27
stlsaintthough he will also need to set the theme permissions20:28
Unit193Actually, link to the theme, not the tool. :P20:28
Ryoshiathe web browser link?20:30
Ryoshiasorry ubuntu is still VERY VERY new to me, I'm running Ubuntu now so if Windows 8 turns into crap like it's looking now, I can go to Ubuntu and be at hom20:33
Unit193Ah, the link to the gnome-look theme.20:33
Ryoshiaok..20:34
Ryoshia http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Lili-Sakura-?content=14897020:34
stlsaintyou need to set permissions on the theme20:36
Unit193stlsaint: You take it, I've never used gnome-shell. :P20:36
Ryoshiahow would I go about setting the permissions?20:37
stlsaintUnit193: your using gnome-shell?20:39
stlsaintlol oops20:39
stlsaintRyoshia: your using gnome-shell20:39
stlsaintUnit193: heck neither have i!!20:39
Ryoshiayeah I have gnome-shell20:39
Unit193Well, technically wouldn't it have to be a Unity theme?20:39
Unit193Ah, nevermind.20:39
Ryoshiacurrently I am actually running my Ubuntu on a Gnome-Shell I believe I switched it just about thirty minutes ago20:40
stlsaintRyoshia: what error messages are you getting?20:40
Ryoshiawell intially I was told That I do not have the permissions to dropp the theme in the specified folder20:41
Ryoshia\"/usr/share/gnome-shell/\". is what the user says20:41
stlsaintRyoshia: in terminal enter20:43
stlsaintsudo nautilus20:43
stlsaintenter password20:43
stlsaintthen copy over theme20:43
stlsaintset permissions same as all other themes in that folder20:43
stlsaintlogout/login test theme20:43
Ryoshiaentered sudo nautilus and it brought me to my home window20:44
stlsaintRyoshia: good now navigate to your home folder where the downloaded/extracted theme is20:44
Ryoshia Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory20:44
RyoshiaPlease ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.20:44
Ryoshiais what the terminal says20:44
stlsaintstart from the "File System"20:44
Ryoshiaalright I'm in the file system dir20:48
Ryoshia/home/ryoshia/Downloads is where it was intially downloaded as a temp areay20:48
Ryoshiaarea*20:48
Ryoshiafound the download/extracted them too by the way XD20:49
Ryoshiayou still there?20:52
stlsaintyea20:53
stlsaintRyoshia: copy over the extracted folder to the themes folder20:53
Ryoshiathe one within /usr/share directory right?20:55
stlsaintwhichever the directions say21:01
Ryoshiathanks for the help :D21:03
Ryoshiaactually I didn't even know about the sudo nautilus command either..21:03
Unit193Errr.... Better to gksudo since it's a GUI.21:06
Unit193!gksu21:07
ubot2If you need to run graphical applications as root, use « gksudo », as it will set up the environment more appropriately. Never just use "sudo"! (See http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo to know why)21:07
alo21nhandler: could you help me, please? Just for a second21:37
nhandleralo21: Sure21:37
alo21holstein: I think a bug should be mark as wishlist21:38
alo21nhandler: I think a bug should be mark as wishlist21:38
alo21nhandler: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/101698321:38
ubot2Ubuntu bug 1016983 in brasero "Feature requests with "information editing" with audio projects" [Undecided,New]21:38
alo21holstein: sorry, i make a mistake21:38
nhandleralo21: Yep, but it isn't really related to the Ubuntu packaging. Instead, it is 2 upstream feature requests. I would probably create 2 bug reports on the upstream bug tracker (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=brasero), link them to the LP bug, and mark the Ubuntu bug as invalid21:44
alo21holstein: thanks21:49
alo21nhandler: thanks21:53
alo21nhandler: how can I link to upstream?21:54
alo21nhandler: done21:55
xworldhai guys , When i ping to google I got this [[[  64 bytes from maa03s05-in-f17.1e100.net (74.125.236.81): icmp_req=1 ttl=56 time=2655 ms ]]] WHAT is it means !! ??21:55
nhandleralo21: I'm only seeing one of the bugs reported upstream. Also, I tend to credit the original requestor when forwarding bugs (with a link to the Launchpad bug report). Don't forget to add a comment for the original reporter on LP explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it21:59
alo21nhandler: how can I add more than one link on LP?22:01
nhandleralo21: Did you report the second bug upstream? If so, what is the bug number?22:02
alo21nhandler: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67868222:03
ubot2Gnome bug 678682 in general "Remember previously entered text" [Enhancement,Unconfirmed]22:03
alo21nhandler: but I need to complete it22:03
alo21nhandler: how can I attach the second upstream's link?22:05
nhandleralo21: It doesn't look like you can (I thought they fixed it), but I guess this makes sense as the original bug should have been reported as 2 separate bug reports. You can double check in -bugs, but I would probably close the ubuntu task as invalid/wishlist, add a comment explaining that you have gone ahead and reported the wishlist items upstream so they have a chance of getting implemented (they are not ...22:11
nhandler... ubuntu-specific bugs) and link to the 2 bug reports. You might also encourage them to subscribe to the upstream bugs so that they are notified if/when they are fixed or if there are any questions.22:11
nhandlerAnother solution (that I don't care for) would be to edit this bug report to only be about one issue, link it to upstream, create a new ubuntu bug about the other issue, and then link that upstream. This is stupid IMO since the ubuntu tasks are invalid22:11
alo21nhandler: can I comment by myself?22:13
nhandleralo21: Yes22:13
nhandleralo21: You should also probably subscribe to any bugs you touch22:14
alo21nhandler: on Launchpad or on Bug-zilla?22:15
nhandleralo21: Both (although you are probably automatically subscribed on bugzilla since you reported it)22:16
alo21nhandler: ok thanks22:19
alo21nhandler: thank you again, I have to go,  have a nice day22:26
