Len-nbailo, recorded some midi with qtracktor from USB midi in. Played back on qsynth ok... back out to HW synth was icky. Noticeably worse with qsynth loaded (but not playing) than without.04:01
ailoLen-nb: Would be cool if some settings could improve that04:02
Len-nbailo, I'm looking...04:03
ailoI'm thinking about the high res timer thing04:04
ailoI guess the only HW that works with jack midi is firewire devices04:04
ailoI mean, withouth any alsa at all04:04
Len-nbI'll have to try on the ensoniq04:07
Len-nbIt has seemed pretty solid so far.04:07
ailoLen-nb: Nice work on the email. Clears things up pretty well05:53
Len-nbailo, ya, but it shows how even on newer machines, it is not quite plug and play06:06
Len-nbI'm thinking the script as it sits can break things as easy as fix.06:08
Len-nbSo far, having the internal sound after USB3 doesn't seem to have hurt it. I have been using it at -p 1024 though06:10
* Len-nb was testing midi not audio at the time06:11
Len-nbgood night06:11
ailolen-dt: And anyone else interested. I've uploaded the quantal version of qjackctl to ppa:ailo.at/backports, for testing07:43
ailoI'm requesting a backport for it soon to Precise07:44
ailoOh, the PPA is for precise07:44
ailoWell, no need to09:08
ailoI did the backport request09:08
ailoNow, let's see about kernel uploads09:08
astraljava+109:10
ailoThis time I seem to be uploading the entire kernel, not just the changes10:59
ailoTakes a while to upload 800MB with 1 Mbit bandwidth :(11:00
len-dtailo, does that mean the new qjackctl will show up in the normal places then?13:04
len-dtbut the kernels are something different...13:05
holsteinailo: what did i miss yesterdy?14:40
holsteindid you put a wiki together?14:40
holsteinhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/DeveloperDocumentation14:40
holsteinwhat i can understand there looks good14:41
astraljavaholstein: Hi! How's your availability for meetings? Days of week, times of day?15:09
holsteinastraljava: spotty.. and really unreliable til fall id say :/15:09
len-dtall: I did some fixes to the menu. I havn't looked at the Settings menu yet but here is a screen shot of the Media playback and Audio Production menus:19:29
len-dthttp://www.ovenwerks.net/UStudiodocs/menu.html19:29
len-dtPlease use refresh if you have looked at this page before.19:29
* len-dt has used this page for showing menus before19:36
len-dtholstein, ailo astraljava ^^19:37
astraljavalen-dt: Cool! Hold on to those, we'll get you the upload rights eventually. :D19:57
len-dtastraljava, no problem, still some more to do.20:05
ailoknome: One thing that I would like to see in Xubuntu is whatever makes ssh easier to work with21:14
ailossh-agent, etc21:14
ailoRight now one needs to use ssh -i <idfile> manually. Would be nice if it was like on Ubuntu, where it is looked up automatically.21:15
ailoAnd that the password for the key is stored for the session21:16
ailoOn Debian Wheezy you can even have it stored permanently 21:16
astraljavaailo: What do you need ssh -i for? I installed keychain for ssh management, it works pretty nicely. At the beginning of a session (after boot) it asks me the passphrase, and after that I only have to provide the password to the server that requires it. If the servers I connect to is set to use the key, it won't ask a thing.21:45
ailoastraljava: Ok, but I don't think that's how Ubuntu does it. No matter, if it works I'll use it21:53
ailohmm, that's pretty nice tho21:54
astraljavaailo: No, that's not what vanilla does. But I don't think Xubuntu should do things imitating vanilla either.21:57
astraljavaBut then again, I do have slight allergy towards GNOME these days. :D21:57
len-dtastraljava, Are there things I need to have before I would be able to upload to the US area? This is my page:https://launchpad.net/~len-ovenwerks 22:20
astraljavalen-dt: No, as long as you have your ssh and gpg key on LP, and you're in the proper team, you're all set.22:21
astraljavaThe thing is, ATM, I cannot give you the rights. Which is another of those admin probs I've been talking about...22:22
len-dtgpg or pgp?22:22
len-dtI am not worried about who or when just now, just to be prepared.22:23
astraljavadrwx------   3 jaska jaska   4096 Jun 24 02:49 .gnupg22:23
astraljavaWhatever is in there. :D22:23
astraljavaOpenPGP keys:22:24
astraljava...from LP. ^^22:24
len-dtls: cannot access .gnupg: No such file or directory22:24
astraljavaI believe from the bzr POV, the SSH key is the important one.22:24
len-dtI guess I need to get that done then22:24
len-dtThe ssh I have done.22:24
astraljavaI think that's enough for pushing to branches, then.22:25
astraljavaIt's been so long since I set all those up, I can't possibly remember them. :)22:25
len-dtI am just starting.22:25
astraljavaI'm glad you are.22:26
len-dtUS seems to be somewhat "peoplebare"22:28
astraljavaCannot decypher, sorry.22:29
len-dtUstudio seems to be bare of people... As in could use more people22:30
astraljavaOh... hahaha!22:31
astraljavaI think there was maybe a period of 20 days when the project couldn't have used more contributors it has ever had. :)22:32
len-dtastraljava, when I use gpg to create a finger print, can I only use it from the computer it was created on or can I copy from one to the other? Same with the ssh keys I guess.22:41
len-dtI use two computers a lot.22:41
astraljavalen-dt: You can of course copy it to other machines as well. I have it on the shell provider account where I have all *buntu-related emails, for instance, and copy it to all local installations from there.22:43
len-dtOk, I will create it here then and copy to the other one as well.22:44
astraljavaYep, that'll work. Just remember to install the necessary binaries, too.22:45
len-dtBoth are Ubuntu studio 12.04 right now, so if this has it the other does too.22:45
astraljavaI don't believe it's there by default.22:46
len-dtgpg is there22:48
astraljavaOk.22:48
len-dtThat didn't do anything for me. It created .gnupg and it's files, but did not give me the number.22:52
astraljavaNo, you have to export the env variable.22:56
len-dtThe ubuntu page says to: gpg --fingerprint22:56
astraljavaErr... sorry, I'm a little out of my head now. What were you trying to achieve?22:57
len-dtI think I am trying to generate a key (or pair)22:58
len-dtI think the instructions on the web site assume that has already been done22:58
astraljavaIf you have copied that, then you don't need to generate anything. For appropriate apps, you just need to set the ID for the key.22:59
ailolen-dt: Did you follow this? https://help.launchpad.net/YourAccount/ImportingYourPGPKey22:59
len-dtailo, The program they say to use there I don't have, On my LP home page there is a spot to add my openpgp key it has a pop up box23:02
len-dtI was using that it has instructions for both the same app as the link you gave as well as the CLI tool I do have.23:02
len-dtBut the instructions for the CLI tool look wrong23:03
len-dtOr just expect I have already done something else :-)23:03
ailolen-dt: It's called something else on XFCE23:03
ailoI'm not on it right now23:03
ailoIt's a key and password manager anyhow23:03
ailoProbably easiest to administer the key using that program23:04
len-dtThe closest I could find was users and groups, but there is nothing there that makes sense.23:05
ailolen-dt: That's not the one23:06
ailoIt's a password and key manager23:06
len-dtailo,  that was my thought23:06
ailoYou'll see your ssh key there as well23:06
ailoLet me reboot and check..23:06
astraljavalen-dt: Right, if you need it for the LP page, you can indeed use `gpg --fingerpring <keyID>`23:07
astraljavaBut you need to have it uploaded first.23:07
len-dtAhh I need a keyid23:07
astraljavaastraljava@lakka:~$ gpg --fingerprint D9C94FE023:08
astraljavapub   1024D/D9C94FE0 2010-07-2023:08
astraljava      Key fingerprint = 38A6 DC3F 9751 84D4 74C5  193F C607 07D0 D9C9 4FE023:08
astraljavauid                  Janne Jokitalo (astraljava) <astraljava@kapsi.fi>23:08
len-dtAhh, I have to use --gen-key23:09
astraljavaOoh, sorry, I didn't realize you didn't have it in the first place. Sorry about that.23:09
len-dtI should use RSA or DSA?23:10
ailolen-dt: Settings -> Password and Keys23:10
astraljavaNooo... don't listen to him, do it the Right Way™, on CLI. :D23:11
len-dtIs missing opn this machine... ubuntustudio?23:11
len-dt2048 ok for keysize?23:11
ailolen-dt: Ok. I don't know if I installed it separately. It's called seahorse23:11
astraljavahttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/GnuPrivacyGuardHowto23:11
astraljavaYeah, seahorse isn't there by default.23:12
astraljavaThat why I installed keychain, I think seahorse brings a lot of cruft with it, but might recall wrong.23:12
len-dtOk, I think I have managed with the CLI23:16
astraljavaGreat!23:20
ailoI hate having to remember so much stuff. I try making scripts for a lot of procedures23:20
astraljavaOh well, you really only need to do it once, if you remember to copy it elsewhere (safe).23:20
* astraljava goes to sleep23:21
astraljavaG'night folks.23:21
ailoGN astraljava 23:21
len-dtGN23:21
