DaekdroomI hope this upgrade doesn't take too long.00:27
DaekdroomSooo. X crashed in the middle of my upgrade to quantal.02:04
DaekdroomIs there any way I can find out whether it's still running in the background?02:04
litropyFrom 12.04 to 12.10, is standard procedure: $ sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list  /* and then: */ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade #?02:58
trismlitropy: update-manager -d; or do-release-upgrade -d; should work now that the alphas are out: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QuantalQuetzal/TechnicalOverview/Alpha2#Upgrading_from_Ubuntu_12.0403:00
litropytrism, Here's what I did: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, which installed fine. I rebooted; lsb_release -a says 12.04; do-release-upgrade -d says No new release found; update-manager -d says I'm up to date.03:04
litropyMind you, I did not sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list03:05
litropy... and apt-get update is still checking precise directories.03:07
trismlitropy: 12.04 is an LTS so you need to change the upgrades to normal in the settings03:07
Daekdroom'software-properties-gtk' command > Upgrades tab > last item, set it to notify you for every version upgrade as opposed to LTS only.03:08
litropytrism, Daekdroom, thank you.03:13

BluesKajHey all11:44
litropyI am stuck in a shell after upgrading to 12.10. Xorg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071215 | dmesg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071217 | jockey: http://paste.ubuntu.com/107121913:06
icerootlitropy: dont use 12.10 if you dont like such things13:07
litropyiceroot, I like troubleshooting.13:09
icerootlitropy: and when looking at your last messages, 12.10 is not what is what you want13:09
litropyiceroot, yu're not gonna talk me out of this. Any idea why my driver is failing?13:11
icerootlitropy: because of a segfault13:12
iceroot[    15.431] 3: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/extra-modules.dpkg-tmp/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so (xdl_xs111_atiddxLeaveVT+0x4a) [0xb6513e5a]13:12
icerootlitropy: what is the output of "dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii | grep -v ^rc"13:13
litropyiceroot, one moment.13:13

litropyiceroot, essentially nothing. http://paste.ubuntu.com/107123913:17
icerootlitropy: then the upgrade itself is complete13:17
icerootlitropy: i guess waiting for a fix is the easiest way13:18

icerootdebugging backtraces in xorg is like using perl, a real pain13:18
litropyiceroot, I can't just revert to the previous driver for now?13:19
litropyiceroot, or is the driver not the problem13:19
icerootlitropy: as i said, debugging xorg backtraces is not fun13:20
Fudgehi Tasmania13:35

IdleOneBluesKaj: I added the xedgers PPA but it does not seem to find the nvidia-graphics-drivers package15:36
IdleOnewhat am I doing wrong here? yes I did apt-get update15:37
BluesKajIdleOne, it's available here , but I chose the stable file for 64bit https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/unstable/+build/358050515:42
IdleOneso you installed -current and not current-dev ?15:43
BluesKajIdleOne, I disabled the nvidia riva driver that i was using in jockey and the just ran dpkg -i ~/pathto/nvidia-current_302.17-0ubuntu1~xedgers~quantal1_amd64.deb15:45
BluesKajIdleOne, rght15:45
BluesKajright that is , not the de15:45
* BluesKaj is redy to throw this KB in the trash15:46
BluesKajdroppig keys left and right now15:46
BluesKajidleone , not the dev15:46
IdleOneerr getting dependency errors here15:47
IdleOneBluesKaj: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071491/15:48
BluesKajIdleOne, which driver are you using now?15:50
BluesKajnouveau?15:50
IdleOneyes15:51
IdleOnevideo is very choppy so i thought i would give xedgers a shot15:51
BluesKajYeah , i had the same problem with nouveau altho bjsnider beleives it's a good driver , but maybe it's ok for 2D etc15:53
BluesKajIdleOne, which nvidia card ?15:54
IdleOne00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2)15:54
BluesKajIdleOne, that's an onboard card , right ? ....dunno if it can accomodate the 302 driver15:55
IdleOneit is15:56
IdleOneso it seems I am stuck with choppiness15:58
IdleOnethis is not an ideal situation15:58
BluesKajit should work with the 295 driver which unfortunately has a few different versions , 295.49,  295.53, 295.59 ..check on nvidia's site to see which one is compatible with your 615015:59
BluesKajIdleOne, looks like your card uses the 295.59 ...you could try it , but remove the xedgers pps first16:02
BluesKajppoa16:02
BluesKajbbiab ..stuff to do for a few mins16:03
IdleOneheh I don't know what changed but now my graphics are smooth. i didn't install the 295.59 driver16:26
DaekdroomSo, for who knows what reason my music library is having some track numbers messed up.16:26
BluesKajIdleOne, maybe an update/upgrade fixed it ?16:34
IdleOneperhaps16:34
