[00:27] I hope this upgrade doesn't take too long. [02:04] Sooo. X crashed in the middle of my upgrade to quantal. [02:04] Is there any way I can find out whether it's still running in the background? [02:58] From 12.04 to 12.10, is standard procedure: $ sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list /* and then: */ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade #? [03:00] litropy: update-manager -d; or do-release-upgrade -d; should work now that the alphas are out: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QuantalQuetzal/TechnicalOverview/Alpha2#Upgrading_from_Ubuntu_12.04 [03:04] trism, Here's what I did: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, which installed fine. I rebooted; lsb_release -a says 12.04; do-release-upgrade -d says No new release found; update-manager -d says I'm up to date. [03:05] Mind you, I did not sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list [03:07] ... and apt-get update is still checking precise directories. [03:07] litropy: 12.04 is an LTS so you need to change the upgrades to normal in the settings [03:08] 'software-properties-gtk' command > Upgrades tab > last item, set it to notify you for every version upgrade as opposed to LTS only. [03:13] trism, Daekdroom, thank you. === yofel is now known as Guest57033 [11:44] Hey all [13:06] I am stuck in a shell after upgrading to 12.10. Xorg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071215 | dmesg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071217 | jockey: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071219 [13:07] litropy: dont use 12.10 if you dont like such things [13:09] iceroot, I like troubleshooting. [13:09] litropy: and when looking at your last messages, 12.10 is not what is what you want [13:11] iceroot, yu're not gonna talk me out of this. Any idea why my driver is failing? [13:12] litropy: because of a segfault [13:12] [ 15.431] 3: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/extra-modules.dpkg-tmp/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so (xdl_xs111_atiddxLeaveVT+0x4a) [0xb6513e5a] [13:13] litropy: what is the output of "dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii | grep -v ^rc" [13:13] iceroot, one moment. === mhall119_ is now known as mhall119 [13:17] iceroot, essentially nothing. http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071239 [13:17] litropy: then the upgrade itself is complete [13:18] litropy: i guess waiting for a fix is the easiest way === ninjak_ is now known as ninjak [13:18] debugging backtraces in xorg is like using perl, a real pain [13:19] iceroot, I can't just revert to the previous driver for now? [13:19] iceroot, or is the driver not the problem [13:20] litropy: as i said, debugging xorg backtraces is not fun [13:35] hi Tasmania [13:36] cold hey [13:36] who are you? [13:38] im fudge of course [13:38] i said hello as I live in tas === Guest57033 is now known as yofel [15:36] BluesKaj: I added the xedgers PPA but it does not seem to find the nvidia-graphics-drivers package [15:37] what am I doing wrong here? yes I did apt-get update [15:42] IdleOne, it's available here , but I chose the stable file for 64bit https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/unstable/+build/3580505 [15:43] so you installed -current and not current-dev ? [15:45] IdleOne, I disabled the nvidia riva driver that i was using in jockey and the just ran dpkg -i ~/pathto/nvidia-current_302.17-0ubuntu1~xedgers~quantal1_amd64.deb [15:45] IdleOne, rght [15:45] right that is , not the de [15:46] * BluesKaj is redy to throw this KB in the trash [15:46] droppig keys left and right now [15:46] idleone , not the dev [15:47] err getting dependency errors here [15:48] BluesKaj: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1071491/ [15:50] IdleOne, which driver are you using now? [15:50] nouveau? [15:51] yes [15:51] video is very choppy so i thought i would give xedgers a shot [15:53] Yeah , i had the same problem with nouveau altho bjsnider beleives it's a good driver , but maybe it's ok for 2D etc [15:54] IdleOne, which nvidia card ? [15:54] 00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2) [15:55] IdleOne, that's an onboard card , right ? ....dunno if it can accomodate the 302 driver [15:56] it is [15:58] so it seems I am stuck with choppiness [15:58] this is not an ideal situation [15:59] it should work with the 295 driver which unfortunately has a few different versions , 295.49, 295.53, 295.59 ..check on nvidia's site to see which one is compatible with your 6150 [16:02] IdleOne, looks like your card uses the 295.59 ...you could try it , but remove the xedgers pps first [16:02] ppoa [16:03] bbiab ..stuff to do for a few mins [16:26] heh I don't know what changed but now my graphics are smooth. i didn't install the 295.59 driver [16:26] So, for who knows what reason my music library is having some track numbers messed up. [16:34] IdleOne, maybe an update/upgrade fixed it ? [16:34] perhaps === Jikan is now known as Jikai [16:35] I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth :) [16:35] heh , no kidding :) === Jikai is now known as Jikan [16:38] it might get loud, definitely deserves to be watched on the flat screen t.v.
