delt | hello | 00:13 |
---|---|---|
delt | uh.... quake3 used OSS right? | 01:06 |
delt | in /lib/modules i just see "snd_mixer_oss" which may have anything to do with oss.... | 01:10 |
delt | is there some "apt-get" package that contains the rest of the kernel modules? | 01:12 |
genii-around | extras has some drivers | 01:12 |
delt | apt-get install "extras" ? | 01:13 |
genii-around | linux-image-$(uname -r)-extras | 01:13 |
genii-around | Sorry no | 01:13 |
genii-around | linux-image-extra-$(uname -r)-generic | 01:14 |
delt | uname -r in this case (xubu 11.04 i think?) would be 3.2.0-26-generic | 01:15 |
delt | E: Unable to locate package linux-image-extra-3.2.0-26-generic-generic | 01:15 |
delt | E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'linux-image-extra-3.2.0-26-generic-generic' | 01:15 |
delt | E: Unable to locate package linux-image-3.2.0-26-generic-extras | 01:16 |
delt | E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'linux-image-3.2.0-26-generic-extras' | 01:16 |
genii-around | See my correction, extra comes before the uname -r | 01:16 |
delt | just tried both | 01:16 |
delt | if i compile a new kernel, what else won't work? | 01:17 |
delt | sry, kind of pissed off at my fried gfx card :/ | 01:17 |
ToZ | delt, have a look here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Games/Native/QuakeIIIArena | 01:19 |
delt | thanks | 01:19 |
ToZ | delt, when I played Quake 4, I ended up recompiling the kernel with oss enabled to get sound. | 01:19 |
delt | gaaah fuck i hate this new firefox :( :( | 01:20 |
bazhang | no cursing here delt | 01:20 |
delt | oh sry | 01:20 |
delt | (+ english is not my native language) | 01:20 |
delt | bash: /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss: No such file or directory | 01:22 |
delt | ...or maybe there's some 3rd party quake3 binary compiled with alsa instead of oss...? | 01:23 |
delt | uhh.... wait a minute | 01:31 |
delt | user@phobos-xubuntu:/dev$ find . | grep -i dsp | 01:31 |
delt | user@phobos-xubuntu:/dev$ | 01:31 |
ToZ | delt, here is post on getting it to work on 11.04: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1813176 | 01:33 |
malv1 | why does xubuntu always ask to unlock my keyring | 02:25 |
bazhang | set it to blank | 02:29 |
malv1 | but then it wont be protected | 02:30 |
bazhang | then keep it there, and enter the password | 02:30 |
malv1 | ubuntu unlocks the keyring when you log in yet xubuntu does not | 02:31 |
holstein | your XFCE is not | 02:32 |
bazhang | ubuntu has the same behavior | 02:32 |
holstein | to be precise... maybe try resetting the pass | 02:32 |
bazhang | you have it set up differently if the behavior is different | 02:32 |
delt | *sigh* that gfx card cost me $100...... :( :( :( | 02:46 |

hobgoblin | is there anyway to specify which screen notifications appear on if you have 2 | 12:17 |
ochosi | hobgoblin: if you're talking about xfce4-notifyd the notifications automatically appear on the screen that has the focus (==mouse-cursor or window that has focus) | 12:21 |
hobgoblin | ok | 12:22 |
hobgoblin | I'll take that as a no :) | 12:22 |
ochosi | yes, take that as a no :) | 12:23 |
ochosi | it's a sensible default and i don't think it can be overridden | 12:23 |
hobgoblin | :) | 12:23 |
ochosi | unless you modify the code | 12:23 |
* hobgoblin shudders | 12:23 | |
hobgoblin | sounds like voodoo - I'll put up with it :) | 12:24 |
astraljava | LOLlero. | 12:40 |

ben_ | howdy all. xubuntu 10.04 for powerpc, how do i install xscreensavers... or they show up, but are greyed out and "aren't installed" running all updates doesn't solve it. final goal... ftp into the box, and display pics as a slideshow, so i assumed the easiest way was to set the screensaver to do a slideshow off a defined folder. thanks | 18:30 |
ben_ | *ftp into the box, move pics there from another remote box via the web, then use the entire machine as a digital picture frame. | 18:32 |
TOE-Kitsune | Hello, I have an issue. I installed the Nvidia drivers last night and now DirectX based games don't work in wine. I am running Xubuntu 12.04 AMD64 Before I installed the Nvidia drivers directx games worked perfectly fine. | 18:34 |
ochosi | TOE-Kitsune: then switch back to the nouveau driver you were using before? | 18:55 |
TOE-Kitsune | Before I wasn't using any proprietary drivers. I recently started contributing to another OS game that needs proprietary drivers to run so I would prefer to keep them if possible. | 18:57 |
Silent | Sup guys | 20:03 |
Silent | How can I configure the Xubuntu live CD to save session files? | 20:03 |
genii-around | !persistent | 20:04 |
ubottu | For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent | 20:04 |

Silent | Bastards! | 20:04 |
genii-around | I think the general idea is to have a casper-cow volume | 20:04 |
Silent | Thanks genii | 20:04 |
syd | And, yet another weird problem with Ubuntu plagues me. I changed the orientation of my monitors (I switched to a two-high vertical mount) and, for some ungodly reason, my mouse pointer is now about 64px tall and I cannot find any way to revert it. Does anyone have any idea what I could even look into for this? | 20:21 |
syd | I should add that it is only incredibly large when hovering over something with no click action. | 20:22 |

qaghan | which one should I pick | 21:48 |
qaghan | kdm or lightdm? | 21:48 |
well_laid_lawn | it's up to you, both should work ok | 21:49 |
qaghan | Alright. Will it remain what I chose even if I select xfce during login? | 21:49 |
well_laid_lawn | yep | 21:49 |
qaghan | Hmmm, alright. Hope it's going to be fine. | 21:50 |
qaghan | well_laid_lawn: Thank you :) | 21:50 |
