rmg51what happened to my a?00:14
abimaelgreat, thanks. I believe im awaiting launchpad team approval. Posted to forum and all, live in DE, new to ubuntu, learning python and decided to join PA LoCo00:15
abimaelOf Course, only because there is no LoCo team right now for Delaware, but I really hope I can meet some people and be able to learn from them, while i do my own studying, you know?00:16
rmg51may as well, since there doesn't seem to be  De team00:16
rmg51we have had a few from DE in here before00:17
abimaeloh ok, well thats great, your in DE too?00:17
rmg51not me00:17
rmg51we let just about any one join our team00:18
abimaeloh ok, is that a bad thing?00:19
rmg51not really00:19
abimaeloh ok00:20
rmg51those who now live out of state once lived here00:20

rmg51feel free to hang out here00:24
abimaelthank you00:24
rmg51maybe others will wake up and chat with you00:25
rmg51I have some things to do so I will be away from my laptop00:26
abimaelyeah hopefully, k thanks00:30
abimaelhow can i start contributing to ubuntu? i see all these developers adding codes and fixing bugs, how can i do something like this?01:15
jthanabimael: There are lots of ways to get involved.  You can become involved physically by going to LoCo events.  You should look out for bug jam every year.  You can work on documentation.  Or triaging bugs.01:16
jthanIf you'd rather be working on the programming end of things.. most people stick with a single project or two at first to get their feet wet and see how it goes.01:17
abimaelok. should I be specifically proficient in a certain area and look for certain projects that fit my preference?01:18
jthanWell - do you already know a certain programming language?01:18
abimaelim learning python right now, thru LEARN PYTHON the hard way and reading O'Reillys01:18
JonathanDabimael: are you a philadelphian?01:18
jthanJonathanD: Don't steal my thunder :-p01:19
JonathanDjthan: I'm just going to invite him to fosscon ;)01:19
jthanFine, fine.01:19
JonathanDBut I'll let you do it.01:19
abimaelno, Delawarean, but funny enough me and my fiancee were looking into moving up there once i get a few certs under my belt01:19
jthanActually you better since I don't know anything about it. Lol. I just like to sass my elders.01:19
JonathanDjthan: it is my sworn duty to invite everyone to fosscon.01:19
abimaeli already got my tickets for FOSSCON01:19
jthanGood.01:19
JonathanDabimael: well, there you go. Lots of ubuntu-pa people will be there.01:19
abimaelunfortunately, i wasnt able to support right now but hopefully i can once the event comes01:20
JonathanDabimael: thats ok :)01:20
JonathanDshowing up is supporting!01:20
jthanSo. You're on your way by learning Python.  Which, by the way, is a great language. If you ever hit any snags I can try to help you.  I used to be fairly proficient in the language.01:20
jthanI recommend picking a project you like (even better if it is written in python) and start triaging bugs / working on documentation if you can. This is how most people get started.01:20
jthanabimael: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributeToUbuntu01:20
abimaelcool, thats great.01:21
jthanoops.01:21
abimael Yeah ive been trying to read up as much as possible and do my codes, Im only on simple stuff right now but thats the basis01:21
abimaelhey, so how do I know what project or bugs are python written? and how would I like fix it and send the modified code? Im still so new to how this all works01:24
jthanThat link I gave you should cover a whole lot of that. You're going to want to especially read about Launchpad and sign up for an account.01:25
abimaelyeah, im signed up for launchpad, signed codeofconduct and all that01:26
abimaelok cool, sounds great, thank you01:27
jedijfabimael: i think you were approved: valle-e08 approved by freelancer31701:38
abimaeljedijf: yes, i was. Thank you01:39
jthanabimael: So you should practice! Triage a bug!01:39
abimaelI'm still learning, not sure if I'm ready yet. Im reading the documentation on Launchpad and ContributeToUbuntu01:40
abimaelStill trying to understand how this all works01:40
jedijfabimael: i sent you the fosscon link too01:41
abimaelI already got my tickets01:41
abimaelthanks01:41
jthanabimael: got your email too ;-)01:41
abimaelYes, Thank you. Im excited. Trying to tackle python so that I can be able to contribute and exercise what I've learned01:42
jedijfabimael: it's so exciting, and there are many different avenues you can take - answering questions on askubuntu01:43
jthanIt's funny. The first time I joined this channel was when I wanted to learn to program. So I spoke with kejava (who is.. alive but never here. He's off being a dad) and I learned Python01:43
JonathanDRunning out of battery.01:44
jedijftriaging is a good way to find projects that you may like working with more permenantly01:44
abimaelyeah, and I've been on here and ubuntuforums as well. Yeah, that's awesome.01:44
jedijfyou could do an "Ubuntu Hour" somewhere01:45
jedijffeel free to use our mailing list and forums to announce it01:45
abimaelwhat do you mean by that?01:45
jedijfhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hour/01:46
jedijfWilmington U, so you could do Golden pigeon diner or whatever the new name is01:46

abimaelYeah, thats awesome. night JonathanD01:47
jedijflast year at wilington U there was a bsides...gonna be another in november, just don't have location yet01:48
abimaelcool, gotta question. Since im focusing on python, How would I know which projects are python based so that I could try to focus on those?01:48
jthanHold on..01:49
jedijfit's there on the bug page01:49
jthanabimael: Here are /some/01:49
jthanhttp://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonProjects01:49
jthanBut yes, there are more on the bug page sorted by language I believe.01:49
jedijfkorrect01:49
jedijfyou can filter01:49
abimaeloh ok, just a matter of correct searching01:50
jedijfi only want python apps written by devs who wear chartreuse socks01:50
jthanI want a pair of kevlar socks01:50
jedijfmy rasperry pi came today and it's grand daughter weekend01:51
jthanBetter get some toys for her.01:51
jedijfwe're going to see dinosaurs tomorrow01:51

jedijfabimael: are you in/near wilmington01:53
abimaelNo, used to live in Wilmington, Im down in Dover for now01:53
jthanIdleOne: geez.03:25
IdleOnewhat?03:25
jthanThat guy is a little hard pressed03:25
IdleOnemore specific please?03:26
jthanThe op.. who kicked angryspam whats his face.03:26
jthanI don't want to name names :-p03:26
IdleOnewell, all I can say is that if you feel something is unjust you should speak up.03:28
jthanWell people that don't sit on irc all day don't know what's not acceptable. Kicking them with no warning isn't going to help.03:28
IdleOneYou have a point there.03:29
IdleOneBut the person you are standing up for has a cloak and registered account on this network. they clearly have some clue about IRC and should know that you are supposed to read the entry messages when you join a channel.03:30
IdleOnethe !guidelines are in that message03:31
jthanTruth. I think he was trying to be light hearted but <op> took it the wrong way.03:31
IdleOneI agree.03:31
jthan*frustrated*03:53
IdleOneheya x1k04:12
x1k:-)04:12
x1kanyone in the Williamsport area? or within an hour drive or so?04:13
IdleOneSo, as far as what is going on in PA LoCo wise I am not really sure. I don't live in PA anymore but there is a mailing list for the LoCo you could jump on and ask/volunteer to help out with any events04:13
IdleOneYou can always organize something in your area also. Ubuntu hours are a great way to spread the Ubuntu love https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hour/04:14
x1kthanks idle!04:15
IdleOne!lists04:16
IdleOneerr04:16
x1ki don't want to downplay IRC support, but i feel like i could be doing something more productive ubuntu-community-wise04:16
IdleOnehttp://lists.ubuntu.com is where you can find all the mailing lists for ubuntu04:16
IdleOneIRC contribution is a one of the things the Membership board looks at but not all Ubuntu members use IRC04:17
x1kit's unfortunately a dying breed04:18
IdleOneIRC dying?04:18
IdleOneAs long as there are real geeks there will be IRC04:19
x1ki mean in new-user support04:19
x1ki absolutely love irc04:19
x1kbut, if i was born in the mid-90's and am just getting into linux and having a problem, my first reaction wouldn't be to figure out how to connect to an irc channel04:20
x1kthat's where #ubuntu-doc and AskUbuntu come in04:22
x1khey abimael04:24
abimaelheyy x1k04:24
x1kPA loco still going to FOSSCON 12 for an installfest? just checked an old email address and it's got a large archive of ubuntu-us-pa mailing list messages...04:27
