ailoThe blue thing is a video driver error00:42
ailoShould dissapear after updating graphic drivers00:42
ailoI had the same problem with the origingal nvidia dribers00:43
ailodrivers*00:43
tyche_ailo: The only problem is that I have the latest that Ubuntu puts out (295.49)  The latest is supposedly 295.59, and it hasn't hit the Ubuntu repositories, yet.02:01
ailotyche_: I had the same problem for a while02:02
ailoI would need to double check with Ubuntu. I'm on Debian now, but more recent drivers did make the bug go away02:02
tyche_And the last time I tried installing an NVidia driver from their site, it took me two weeks to straighten out my display.  It didn't recognize my Samsung monitor.02:03
ailoNo reason to do that02:03
ailoLet's see what I have02:03
ailo295.5902:03
tyche_You got it from Debian?02:04
ailoI'm on Debian, so that's what I have02:04
ailoWheexy02:04
ailoWheezy*02:04
ailoThat's what made the blue screen go away02:04
ailoLet me see about Ubuntu..02:04
tyche_Yea, I moved over  from that when I discovered that PulseAudio actually CAN find my Bose Companion 5 speakers.02:05
tyche_It's NICE to watch movies with surround sound (5.1)02:05
ailotyche_: Try installing nvidia-current-updates02:06
ailoSorry02:06
tyche_They're in.  And they're listed in Synaptic as 295.4902:06
ailoThat's what you have, I think02:06
ailoI guess they are a bit slow, if they are planning to update to latest :(02:07
ailoAnyway, the newer driver will solve it02:07
tyche_I think they may be in a ppa.  I found a site that lists the apt-add and apt-geet commands to get them.02:09
ailotyche_: Should be no problem. Also, whenever they update nvidia in Ubuntu, you can always remove that PPA later02:10
tyche_Yep.02:10
tyche_I'll be back.02:15
tycheailo: No go on the NVidia driver.  It upgraded, but doesn't show up on the driver's list.  So, I've still got blue men.02:55
tycheForgive the delay, I was out to supper (not to be confused with 'out to lunch')02:55
ailotyche: geforce 210?02:57
tycheNvidia GeForce GT 52002:57
ailoNot totally certain what exactly did make the issue go away. I would have bet it was the driver, since it was when updating that as the problem went away02:58
ailotyche: flahs version?02:58
ailoflash*02:58
ailoVersion: 1:2.8.402:58
tycheWell, Ubuntu should come out with 295.59 sooner or later.02:59
ailotyche: I also only had problems at some specific site, where they were using newer tech02:59
ailoA more recent version of flash required, etc03:00
ailoNi problems on Youtube for me03:00
ailoNo*03:00
tycheThis is YouTube.  And my Shockwave Flash version is 11.2r20203:00
ailoMaybe it's just different on different devices03:00
tycheCould be.03:00
tycheIt's just nice to listen to a Rochester, NY Classical Music station in stereo (I'm in Arizona)03:01
tycheDebian didn't have the controls to handle the Bose speakers.  And, come to find out (after all this time) all I had to do was go into a terminal and bring up alsamixer, and press F6, and select the Bose speakers.03:03
tycheThat's for PulseAudio.03:03
tycheIt's finally out of Alpha, and actually into Beta.  A few more upgrades of the program and it might actually make RC1.  :-D03:04
ailotyche: You could try Ubuntu Alpha03:04
ailoIt's more up to date than wheezy03:05
tycheUbuntu Studio has some nice things with it.  I'd have to figure out what they all are, and spend 4 hours downloading them through Synaptic, or even go out on the web to get them.03:06
tycheUbuntu studio is Ubuntu 12.0403:06
ailotyche: As for the Bose speakers, I suspect that is not a distro specific issue, but a PA/alsa issue. PA only likes to manage software levels. While they sometimes are also hardware levels, only alsa-mixer, or a chip specific mixer can control HW levels on cards03:07
ailotyche: What you miss, if you don't install Ubuntu Studio from DVD is the audio stuff03:08
ailoI mean performance wise. Realtime privilege03:08
tycheYes and no.  All three devices show up.  The onboard card at HW:0, Bose at HW:1, and the HDMI from NVidia for HW:203:08
ailotyche: Even if PA shows the device, it won't show you HW levels, unless they are also SW levels03:08
ailoIf there's any internal mixing on the card, PA will likely not show it03:09
tycheTrust me, that came down the first time I actually went into Ubuntu Studio.  About 4 hours worth.  Almost 500 packages, including kernel updates.03:09
tycheCable.  Meh!  But better than satellite, considering that I'm on the landing path for Mesa Gateway Airport/Williams Field.03:10
tycheAnd when the AF Fast Movers go over, they can mess up television reception.  Can you imagine downloading a kernel update when they go over? >snicker<03:11
ailoI guess I would prefer cable :)03:12
tycheYep.  My thoughts exactly.03:12
tycheThanks for your help, though.03:12
ailonp03:12
tycheIt's nice to talk to someone who can understand me with my limited tech ability.03:13
ailoYou seem to know your way around well enough03:13
tycheWell, I putter around, some.  But mostly I consider myself a perpetual n00bie.03:14
tycheThere's just too much I DON'T know.03:14
ailoLuckily, there's always someone to ask who knows more than oneself :)03:14
ailoAbout any particular subject03:15
ailoI do that quite a lot myself03:15
tycheBTW, the reason it took me 2 weeks to get my monitor straightened out was because I edited the xorg.conf, and miss-typed something.  I finally had a friend look at it, and we solved it in ten minutes.  Now you know my programming abilities.  Nil03:15
ailoI haven't messed with that file for a long time03:16
ailoNot since they started managing that automatically03:16
ailoYou needed something specific?03:16
tycheThat's what I had to do to upgrade the NVidia driver on Wheezy, originally.03:16
ailoI only started using Wheezy pretty recently03:17
ailoCould be they sorted that out03:17
ailoSettings are automatic at each boot, until you make a save using nvidia-settings, in which case a xorg.conf is created03:17
ailoBefore that, there is no xorg.conf03:17
ailoSomething similar for ATI, I suspect03:18
tycheThe GT 520 wasn't recognized, because it was too new.  And the Samsung wasn't recognized at all (27 inch monitor).  All new equipment, and it started life as a Windows machine.  It was still-born.  I hit it with GParted before it even had a chance to start.03:18
tycheI don't know.  All I know is that because it couldn't recognize my card and monitor, I was reduced to the level BELOW 640 X 48003:19
ailoProbably due to the noveau driver?03:19
tycheI felt like I had to step outside the room to view the screen.03:20
ailoThe kernel itself should be more up to date than any other OS on the planet03:20
ailoOther than Linux based, that is03:20
ailoBut graphic cards are not included in the kernel in the same way as hard drives, etc03:20
tycheYea, the kernel knew what it was doing.  Once I finally got the xorg.conf figured out, it went to 1920 X 1080, slick as you please.03:21
ailoThe kernel is probably one of the most spectacular pieces of software ever, since it works on either supercomputers or smartphones. Only, it doesn't have every driver for every HW. It's a lot more fun using Linux when it works, I feel, since you mostly just plug in stuff, and it works already, without having to install, register, go to web sites, update separately, etc. Yet, since you seldom buy a computer with linux preinstalled, yo03:24
ailoAs opposed to the other two OS's, where you buy the computer, and someone already installed and made sure everything works03:25
ailoAlso, Linux is yet not a common Desktop system, so it doesn't get much support for that from companies.03:26
tycheYea.  That's how I learned to use a needle to open the CD/DVD drive and drop in Gparted.  Then it's a fast wipe and partition into four drives, and install on one.  Data goes on a second drive, and the other two are playgrounds until I find something I like better than what I'm using.03:26
tycheI find it a LOT easier than Windows (and the last Windows I used was XP at work, 5 years ago).  My wife has Windows 7, and the few times I went in to fix things, I felt lost.03:28
ailotyche: What's a needle?03:28
tycheThin, metal, sharp pointy thing used to sew.03:28
ailotyche: Ok :D03:29
ailoI think Win7 is probably 100x better than Vista, but it's still only Windows03:29
tycheIt has a hole at one end to put thread through, and enough room for my wife's fingers.  You don't think I'M stupid enough to touch something that dangerous, do you?  (I'm kidding.  I actually have sewn, on occasion.  My cats laughed)03:30
tycheOnly Windows.  that's like saying ONLY a bovine byproduct used for fertilizing roses03:31
ailoI guess it's a lot up to the user too, how they administer the machine03:31
ailoThose win7's can get slow and troublesome, just like previous versions03:32
ailoProbably true for other OS's too03:32
ailoPeople who aren't good with Linux will often just reinstall, problem fixed03:33
tycheOne thing I found with windows when I HAD to use them regularly, was to remove all .bak, .tmp and the help files helper files, then defrag three times.03:33
tycheIt kept them from crashing every two hours when running AutoCAD 200003:33
ailoYea, defragging. Been a long time since I did that. Was fun the first few times03:34
ailoOn Win 98 I think03:34
tycheYep.03:34
ailoWatching the bytes get ordered03:34
tycheA royal pain when we were on a rush to get drawings out to the contractor.03:35
tycheIt was so bad that we had a motto in that department.  SAVE OFTEN03:37
ailoBy this time, everything aught to have auto save, one would think03:41
ailoAt least, very soon03:41
ailoWith faster systems, there's no reason why not to03:41
tycheAutoCAD did.  It was a pain in the neck.  At least doing it manually we could CHOOSE when to be interrupted.03:42
ailoIt shouldn't be noticable03:42
ailoIt's just writing to harddrive03:42
ailoDoesn't need to take over everything else03:42
tychesome of my drawings went 25 meg or more.03:43
ailoShould only write what was changed too03:43
tycheAnd both AutoCAD and Windows had the same problem.  They thought that they were the only thing on the system.03:43
tycheThese were FULL saves.  Incrementals didn't work well with AutoCAD drawings (at least then)  We'd end up with all sorts of glitches and lost  portions.03:44
danlinhello14:29
danlini need help to configure my m-audio fast track pro [USB] with ubuntu precise14:29

len-dtmilk, where you the one who wanted to have an app to split your keyboard?16:18
milkhello there16:18
milkuhm, nope, wasnt me :)16:18
len-dtOK, I was talking to some can't remember who.16:19
sunzskype incoming call window is rendered off the screen! how to get it back on screen?22:28
ailosunz: That sounds like a xubuntu Q :). Sure it's not on another workspace?22:38
sunzailo, its ubuntustidio running XFCE, its not on another workspace ,but u suspect it somewhere outside visible screen dimensions22:47
