[00:27] hi [00:27] any ibook users here? [00:27] or preveous iBook users [00:52] I've install rxvt-unicode-256colors and I don't have a menu entry for it. Does lubuntu use .desktop files for the menu? [00:55] nm, finally found how to refresh the menu [01:04] hi [09:09] hi [09:10] where can i find themes for lxde ? [09:27] hello [12:35] I have just managed to install 12-04 on the G4 ibook [12:36] I have trouble with booting down, it doesn't do it properly [12:36] it sort of hangs with a black screen and a few clourded bits on the screen [12:36] I got help with the live boot up issue [12:37] apparently there is a bug that needs a command to handle the old ibook [12:38] so, no idea about the shut down issue? [12:38] anyone here at all? [12:38] lubuntu seems to run fine [12:39] just a few things that need attention [12:40] hi SkippersBoss [12:40] any clever with old macs? [12:41] anyone here at all? [12:41] it might be a general lubuntu issue though, it will not boot down smoothly [12:41] or even probable [13:22] how do I eject a CD in 12.04? [13:22] it's one of those slots that you just push the cd in [13:23] and the lubuntu cd is stuck !! [13:24] silverarrow: open pcmanfm and click the eject icon on the left pane [13:24] :p [13:24] (the file manager) [13:25] oh hi [13:25] archivemanager? [13:25] hmm [13:26] I am booted from harddisk, and 12.04 doesn't seem to call it filemanager [13:27] pcmanfm ? [13:27] I'm newly installed and I don't even have wireless yet [13:29] there is usually a cd ikon on the desktop, but not this time [13:30] do you know anything clever from terminal? [13:32] oh, it popped out [13:32] diskutility, [13:32] disc [14:06] is there a clever way to store update packages, or restriced on CD or usb memory to get wireless working ? [14:06] I don't have wired connection options at all [14:06] at least not here [14:25] with a plain lubuntu 11.10 installation, can I configure my default sound card? Because everything workes like a charm, but I want to switch the default sound card. At its best without installing asoundconf or pulseaudio. [14:26] isn't pulseaudio installed on a plain lubuntu installation? [14:27] nope [14:27] apt-get install lubuntu-desktop on a base precise chroot shows pulseaudio being installed. [14:27] at least not on 11.10 [14:28] oh 11.10 [14:28] let's see.. [14:28] nope, pulseaudio's still installed there [14:28] unless it's a recommends.. [14:28] ah i guess it is [14:29] dpkg shows just the libpulse0, which is not the pulseaudio application [14:29] yes [14:31] as for default sound card, there's something you can set in .asoundrc [14:31] lemme just check it up.. [14:32] as far as I know .asoundrd implies having installed asoundconf.. [14:32] *.asoundrc [14:33] no. [14:34] .asoundrc is an ALSA thing. [14:34] it's read by libasound [14:34] http://paste.debian.net/178169/ [14:35] if you're not using pulse, you can use this as your .asoundrc file [14:35] and change the 0,3 to whatever sound output device you wish to use [14:36] hi [14:36] ah, the number comes from aplay -l [14:37] so alsa uses .asoundrc but does not create it by itself? [14:37] yes. [14:37] ic [14:37] it looks at ~/.asoundrc, if it exists [14:37] failing which, /etc/asound.conf [14:37] i think it might look at /usr/share/asound/ or something [14:37] do you know about the b43 blacklist bug ? [14:37] on 12.04 [14:38] no [14:38] I am struggeling abit with boot up related to it [14:39] it turns out you need to give the command "live b43.blacklist=yes" for the powerpc cd to boot on some ibooks [14:39] then " Linux b43.blacklist=yes" on the first boot, and it is suppose to stick for the next bootups [14:40] but I have to do it on every bootup [14:40] extra kernel options don't get remembered. [14:40] you need to put it in /etc/default/grub [14:40] and run update-grub [14:41] then your grub.cfg will be generated with the kernel option there. [14:41] trouble is I haven't wired network connection here [14:41] and wireless is a pain [14:42] is there a clever way to store driverpackages on CD and install from there? [14:43] well if you know which package it is, you could do apt-get install $pkg --print-uris [14:43] I need to get wired connection [14:43] then bring the list of URIs over to another machine, and download all the debs. [14:43] then place the debs in /var/cache/apt/archives/ and it should be fine. [14:43] i think. [14:43] sounds good [14:44] brb, need to boot in lubuntu [14:44] if you can bring it to another computer running lubuntu you could have it share its internet connection via wire [14:44] networkmanager has support for internet connection sharing. [14:44] oh, very clever [14:45] thanks [14:45] do you know if there is frugal install option in the lubuntu CD? [14:45] sort of wizard run thing [14:45] what's that? [14:46] frugal install? [14:46] some sort of minimalistic install? [14:46] it's when you boot up live cd, and you have a folder on the computer harddrive where things are stored, settings, it runs like a full os but minimal storage space [14:47] I have only one ibook, and the other comptuer would boot a i364 cd [14:47] 386 [14:48] but that might not matter much [14:48] brb [14:51] hyperair, ty for the support. [14:59] no problem [15:13] ^^ wat? Although I modified /etc/xdg/libfm/libfm.conf and /etc/xdg/lubuntu/.../libfm.conf the ~/.config/.../ligfm.conf always backup at restart. I cannot make the modification permanent? Why not? === CTtechguy_ is now known as CTtechguy [21:27] good night [22:05] do you use xteam? [22:13] or how do i pasta in xterm [22:38] Casey: Click the middle mouse button, or try Shift-Insert. [22:40] ok well is lubuntu based on Debian [22:40] Yes [22:40] Casey: Ubuntu's based on Debian, and Lubuntu's on Ubuntu; quite polymorphic, really ;P [22:41] ok
