ScottyKgreetings! I've been running Kubuntu for a while, and this week decided to load the Unity Desktop. Really enjoying it! One question - on KDE we can load widgits, so I can have the weather right on the desktop. Is there something similar for Unity? Thanks!01:44
krytarikScottyK, you could try Conky, even though it's quite complicated to set up at first.01:50
ScottyKHavn't quite figured out Conky yet!01:51
ScottyKbut I looked around in the Software Center, and found "Weather Indicator", which displays the temp in the status bar at the top. works for me!01:52
krytarikOk then. :)01:52
IAmNotThatGuyScottyK, you can also check screenlets01:56
IAmNotThatGuy!screenlets01:56
ubot2Screenlets are little widgets for your !desktop. Note you must have a compositing window manager such as !Compiz Fusion, xcompmgr, or KWin to run them. You can get them at http://www.screenlets.org/01:56
IlikeMooseis there a command to show how long the hard drive has been operating since my ubuntu installation?02:23
IlikeMoosei wish i could find out how many hours my hard drive has been operating02:23

redlinerHi there. Anyone familiar with Openmodeller?04:06
holsteinredliner: im googling it, but you can just drop what issues you are having, or whatever04:07
holsteindrop meaning, let us know04:08
redlineroh, sure04:08
redlinerI am trying to compile it, but when I run "make" it gives me an error I can't manage to solve04:09
holsteinyou can link errors, or pastebin, but you'll likely just have to ask the maintainer... sometimes the ubuntu packages can be named differently04:09
holsteini would probably just use https://launchpad.net/~openmodeller/+archive/ppa04:10
redlinerhttp://pastebin.com/gK0B0GdB04:11
redlinerapparently it is something about GDAL, as far as I can tell04:12

noob_and the used space was unknown04:32
StrategistIt took 400gb worth of space?04:33
redlinerSo, no tips on the error I pasted?04:33
Strategistredliner: I haven't looked at the pastbin yet.  One sec04:36
Strategistredliner: Do you have all the dependencies for Openmodeller?04:36
redlinerI believe I do04:36
redlinerAt least I followed the instructions on the website04:37
Strategistredliner: Did you use "sudo apt-get install " to download it?04:38
redlinerYes04:38
StrategistDo you have your linux headers installed?04:38
StrategistDo a "sudo apt-get update" on your system.04:39
redlinerI believe I do04:39
redlinerI did the "sudo apt-get update" at some point04:39
StrategistHow recent?04:40

StrategistAnyone have experience with recompiling an old outdated driver for use with a new kernel?21:51
StrategistI'm trying to ditch Windows, and completely move to Linux.  Unfortunately though I'm stuck on dial up, and the Linuxant driver for my external dial up modem is outdated, and won't work with Ubuntu 12.04.21:53
StrategistThe code is too old.21:53
StrategistSo it seems like my ownly option is to recompile the Linuxant driver from the source, to work with the newer kernel, or to downgrade my kernel for compatiblity sake.21:54
StrategistI'm hoping that is a last resort.21:54
StrategistI just made the move to Linux about two weeks ago, and would like some assistance if anyone is willing to help me out with this.21:55
holsteini would look for a backport21:55
holsteinwouldnt bother me running an older kernel though21:55
Strategistholstein: What is that exactly?21:55
* Strategist googles21:56
holsteinStrategist: a backport? is a package that would be in the repos that would potentially add a kernel module that would support your hardware21:56
StrategistOh, thanks :)21:56
StrategistSo would it allow and outdated driver to run on a new kernel?21:56
Strategistan*21:56
holsteinwell, its not so much outdated as just removed21:57
holsteinthe kernel gets big otherwise. you can always compile a new one with whatever you need.. or add modules... or use an older one21:57
StrategistThis is the driver that was outdated: www.linuxant.com/drivers/dgc/downloads.php21:58
StrategistSo far no luck with finding a newer one online at all, or even a fix/workaround.21:59
StrategistSorry if I seem like i'm rambling, most of this stuff is rather new to me, and it's just a tad frustrating when everything else works except for the crucial part you need.22:01
