JamesTaitGood morning all! :)08:15
mandelmorning all!08:31
ryeping mandel, do you know that SD keeps a directory open forever if it was a UDF during the current session preventing physically removing the dir (requires SD restart to release the handle), do you recall a bug filed for this?11:31
mandelrye, is done on purpose, the directory is being used by sd and we don't want the user to remove it. You can remove the UDF from control panel and then remove it11:32
mandelrye, is better than adding a watch to the parent and then ignore files etc.. which means that we will get ALL events from the users home on windows in a single thread which does not perform correctly11:33
mandelrye,  is this a request from the user?11:33
ryemandel: no, even after removing the UDF you need to restart SD for it to release the directory11:34
mandelrye, oh, that is wrong and we don not have a bug about it11:34
ryeokay11:34
mandelrye, removing the UDF should remove the watch and release the handle11:35
mandelthen you can remove the dir11:35
ryemandel: it looks like it is not happening, I can remove the directories within that one but I cannot remove/rename the former UDF root11:36
mandelrye, yes, the watches are just in the root dir and not in the children to use less threads on windows11:37
ryemandel: bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+bug/102839411:39

alecumandel: ping!13:27
dobeyholas alecu13:33
alecudobey: Mirmengjesi!13:34
dobeyheh :)13:35
mandelalecu, pong!13:44
* mandel back from lunch13:44
alecumandel: did I just counted 9 new branches from you up for review?13:45
mandelalecu, yes, but is nothing that scary, what happens is that I removed ARC from the fsevents daemon, to make things safer and not risk memory leaks I have remove ARC per file and proposed them, so instead of a massive branch you have very small ones that can be tested13:46
mandelalecu, the idea is, add coiler flag to ignore arc for file mycode.m look at changes, run tests, everything works, move on :)13:46
alecumandel: yes, yes, as you can see I'm complaining just because :-)13:46
mandelalecu, oh, ok, complain ignored then ;)13:47
alecumandel: it's great that all of them are small :-)13:47
mandelalecu, there are a single file based approach to minimize the chance of letting a memory leak land in trunk13:47
alecumandel: this says 13 mandel branches for review: https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntuone/+activereviews13:48
alecumandel: luckily my review day is tomorrow, and I'm taking a holiday ;-)13:48
mandelalecu, hahaha well I want all reviews from mmcc for this :)13:48
alecupoor soul :-)13:49
mandelalecu, he is going to regret to be back from holidays :-)13:49
mandelalecu, but is now or never, so better to do it now :)13:49
mandelalecu, I'm also moving to asl for the logging which would improve a lot our lifes whenever we have to debug13:51
* dobey ponders what to do with dev-tools exactly13:54
alecudobey: what are the options?13:55
dobeyalecu: try to transition it mostly away from twisted; or write a separate test runner that does some of the same stuff, but doesn't use twisted13:57
mandelalecu, do you have some mins?14:20
alecumandel: sure14:22
alecumandel: mumble?14:22
mandelalecu, lets do it :)14:23
mandelalecu, I'm in the darwin channel14:23
alecumandel: I'm booting the mumble laptop14:24
mandelalecu, ok14:24
mandelmmcc, morning! I have reviews for you, do you still have the 10.6 machine around?14:24
mmcchi folks. I'm back, trying to catch up now14:24
mmcchi mandel, yes - it's not plugged in yet but I can do that right away for reviews14:25
mandelmmcc, super, give me 10 mins I'm talking with alecu and I'm with you14:26
mmccmandel, ok sure - I'll go set it up14:27

ubot5Ubuntu bug 1028394 in Ubuntu One Client "[windows] Directory is still open by SD after removing a UDF" [Undecided,New]14:39
mandelmmcc, I'm back!14:43
mmcchi mandel, so what have I missed?14:43
mandelmmcc,  I have proposed lots of small branches that remove ARC from the project file by file (to simplify reviews)  and would love to have reviews from you :)14:43
mandelmmcc, there are also some small bug fixes (length of socket etc.. ) there, but I want to focus on seeing if we can get it running on 10.614:44
dobeymmcc: all moved to SD?14:44
mmccok mandel, where should I start?14:44
mandelmmcc, and I have a question for you, SBJson is copied (the source) to our project so I have made a branch that expects the framework to be in the path, what happens if sbjson was copiled with arc?14:45
mmccdobey: yes, mostly. lots of boxes laying around14:45
mandelmmcc, first branch is: https://code.launchpad.net/~mandel/ubuntuone-fsevents-daemon/remove-arc-fsevent/+merge/11643314:45
mandelmmcc, the trick is the compiler flag AFAIK I did the mem management correctly14:45
mmccmandel, so was sbjson compiled with ARC? I'm not sure what happens if you mix files. have to look14:49
mandelmmcc, well, in a diff branch I added sbjson as a required framework but I have no idea of what problems we could face14:50
dobeymmcc: heh, i still have lots of boxes laying around; and last time i moved was almost 3 years ago14:51
mmccdobey: heh. been there14:57
