[09:29] ok, thanks for the info [09:30] Riddell, KDE 4.9 for 12.04 will be available only after final release ? [09:44] soee: well it won't be available before releae of 4.9 :) [11:46] 1445.52 < evll> just want to express my gratitude towards developers of kubuntu. was using it for a long time, but had a problem during version update and switched to chakra. now I am back and I must say, that is like a breath of fresh air [11:46] 1445.57 < evll> everything just works [11:53] :D [11:59] * apachelogger stumbles in and mumbles things about being out of coffee [12:00] !sru [12:00] Stable Release Update information is at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates [12:02] Riddell: ping [12:03] hi apachelogger [12:04] Tm_T: always nice to hear :) [12:05] Riddell: say I want to SRU phonon gstreamer 4.6.1, would I file multiple SRU bugs for the invidiual issues addressed as to provide verification steps for each, or would I file one bug with all steps, or would I file one bug and simply shoot for "does not work worse than 4.6.0 verification" [12:06] apachelogger: SRU is for paticular known problems so it should be one bug per issue [12:07] Riddell: would I also have to micro-patch it then? [12:07] no but the SRU team will want to be able to review the diff [12:08] mhh [12:08] * apachelogger starts filing then ^^ [12:08] Riddell: merci cheri [12:16] * shadeslayer tries compiling okular with gcc-4.6 [12:29] Riddell: indeed [12:30] considering people typically give feedback only when things are going bad [13:28] Hey there, Riddell, are you at keys? [13:37] keys? [13:39] ooh http://dot.kde.org/2012/07/24/introducing-project-neon-kvm [13:40] go shadeslayer [13:41] http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Project-Neon-provides-daily-builds-of-KDE-modules-1652063.html [13:42] shadeslayer: what are those kvm images used with? qemu? [13:42] cool [13:42] archive is rejecting my upload [13:42] and the mail does not say anything useful [13:43] apachelogger: upload of what? [13:44] pgst 4.6.1 to precise-proposed [13:44] http://paste.kde.org/522608/ [13:44] that's what I get [13:45] now that's broken [13:45] try again? [13:45] or give me packages to try? [13:45] that's already the second time I tried [13:45] sec [13:47] Riddell: http://people.ubuntu.com/~apachelogger/tmp/pgst/ [13:47] perhaps it simply dislikes ubuntu0.* uploads to pockets other than security [13:48] hi jsubl2, how did testing go? [13:48] mhh, we also use that for regular kde SRUs... [13:48] i found a bug if this test is valid. I did it 2x [13:49] burn the image to flash drive with dd_rescue. boots and installs ok. grub tries to install to flash drive instead of the hard drive i installed to [13:49] grub fails. no boot [13:49] jsubl2: what's dd_rescue? [13:50] utility to burn an iso to flash drive. [13:50] jsubl2: time to report a bug then [13:51] attach /var/log/syslog [13:51] ok. i have to read those docs yet on doing that [13:51] and /var/log/installer/* [13:51] or run ubuntu-bug ubiquity [13:52] ok so ubuntu-bug ubiquity would guide me through the bug opening process [13:53] it should do [13:53] i am on 12.04. i will boot the image and run the command. === dantti|2 is now known as dantti_laptop [13:56] Riddell and apachelogger: If you go the multiple bugs route, it'll be more painful to get verified. My recommendation is one metabug that references the others. [13:57] SRU documentation says that ubuntu-sru does not like this at all [13:57] and FWIW I could slap a verified stamp on each of those as those are the test cases we used to verify release quality ^^ [13:58] apachelogger: If you can do that quickly, then that works too as it's getting the verification stamp on each one that can be painful. [14:00] i ran ubuntu-bug ubiquity. entered the summary. its asking if any on the list is similiar. one is but it is a 2006 bug. what should i do [14:01] report a new bug is my guess [14:01] Riddell: yeah, just download the tar and run the script included [14:01] jsubl2: yes [14:04] i cant find /var/log/installer [14:05] just syslog should do from the live system [14:05] but doesn't ubuntu-bug attach the files for you? [14:06] not sure i clicked on extra options. this is from 12.10 installed. not the live. is this report valid [14:06] or do i need to run this from the failed live install [14:06] jsubl2: is it the install you had problems with? [14:07] yes. but its dual boot. so i added the 12.10 to another grub [14:07] so i could test it [14:07] and it doesn't have anything in /var/log/installer/ ? [14:07] no [14:08] hum, weird [14:08] dpkg.log has a few comments. but not much [14:08] that won't have anything about grub [14:09] dpkg.log:2012-07-24 14:03:34 status half-configured grub-pc-bin:amd64 1.99-22ubuntu1 [14:09] i dont see anything that i believe would be helpful to the devs [14:09] i could recreate the error and run the command from the live. if it would be helpful [14:09] yeah I guess so [14:10] ok [14:10] "I thought I'd report that http://www.kubuntu.org/ says "OK" and [14:10] nothing else at the moment... " [14:10] anyone have problems? I don't [14:10] Works here. [14:12] thanks [14:32] from the live cd how do i get a konsole window to start the bug report. then i need a browser [14:34] jsubl2: same way you do anywhere else [14:34] kmenu->konsole [14:34] or alt-f2 -> konsole [14:34] alt-tab if you have a full screen ubiquity hiding it [14:34] so i should bring up the desktop and install from there. [14:35] then see if the bug occurs [14:36] jsubl2: yes [14:37] ok [14:41] apachelogger: [ubuntu/precise-proposed] phonon-backend-gstreamer 4:4.7.0really4.6.1-0ubuntu0.1 (Waiting for approval) [14:41] so it seems not to have liked you for some reason [14:41] Quintasan: very simple test for the okular search problem http://paste.kde.org/~fabiod/521714/ [14:42] Quintasan: notice how when run in precise, the " No such method" notice contains 10 ints, but when run in quantal it has 9 ints [14:42] i.e. one magically disappeared [14:42] shadeslayer: i think you were interested in this too ↑ [14:45] e [14:46] Riddell: outragous :( [14:46] Riddell: thanks for sponsoring [14:51] tsdgeos: yeah, I was looking into how to use nm and objdump to see what the object file contains [14:51] so that we can report a bug in gcc [14:51] goodie [14:53] atm I'm testing some stuff, so will look at that in a bit [15:02] shadeslayer: congrats on the new job [15:02] micahg: thanks! :) [15:03] * shadeslayer is really really hungry [15:15] * ScottK notes irony.
