=== Ming is now known as Guest30043
DanaGHmm, I'm trying to install the aspeed KMS driver (ast.ko) on 3.5-rc7 from kernel-ppa... and I'm getting this: 02:27
DanaGmake[1]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.5.0-030500rc7-generic/arch/x86/syscalls/syscall_32.tbl', needed by `arch/x86/syscalls/../include/generated/asm/unistd_32.h'.  Stop.02:27
DanaGSame happens when I try to "make prepare" at the root of /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`/02:28
DanaGThat file is also not in the installed kernel package.02:36
DanaGoh wait, if this has been merged, the whole issue is moot: http://osdir.com/ml/kernel-team/2012-07/msg00111.html02:37
DanaGer, wrong link.  this one: http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/170358/02:37
DanaGcool, it has been merged.  I'm still wondering about that syscall_32.tbl, though..02:41
smbmorning06:38
fredrikjHi, I installed mainline kernel linux-image-3.5.0-030500-generic_3.5.0-030500.201207211835_amd64.deb on 12.04 today, and it seems my graphics card doesn't work properly with that kernel. In gnome I end up in non-accelerated fallback mode. It is some intel mobile chipset on a clevo laptop. Acceleration works with a ubuntu mainline 3.4-rc6 deb. Is this a expected issue? Should I open a bug report?07:37
ppisatimoin07:41
infinityppisati: Can you think of anything from the most recent ti-omap4/precise SRU that would lead to TCP timeouts, poor network performance, poor USB performance in general, anything like that?07:47
RAOFfredrikj: Did you also install linux-somethingorother-extras? That's where the GPU drivers are now.07:48
ppisatiinfinity: an usb problem07:48
ppisatiinfinity: i klnow there;'s a bug about it07:48
infinityppisati: I need to get lamont to downgrade all the shiny new precise buildds (or some of them) to the previous version to confirm, but I'm getting increasingly suspicious that the kernel is bouncing my machines temporarily offline here and there.07:48
infinityppisati: Oh, you have a bug?  Erk.  Kay.  And it's in 1416?  Downgrading to 1415 should make me happy?07:49
infinityppisati: Do you have a # for me?07:49
ppisatiinfinity: and i know ming was going back and forth on it with a user07:49
ppisatiinfinity: lemme find it07:49
fredrikjRAOF: Nope, i didn't install extras. Will do. (The extras package description gave me the impression it was all about virtualization, so i didn't think it applied to me). Thanks.07:51
infinityfredrikj: It's actually the inverse of being about virtualization.07:51
RAOFfredrikj: It's all the stuff that virtualised installs *don't* want.07:51
infinityppisati: Hrm, I can't find a bug for it anywhere.  But if it's being tracked by *someone*, that's enough for me.07:52
ppisatiinfinity: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux-linaro/+bug/70924507:52
ubot2Ubuntu bug 709245 in linux-linaro "ARM SMP scheduler performance bug" [Medium,Fix committed]07:52
infinityppisati: Do you know if downgrading to 1415 makes it all better, or if I need to go further back in time?07:53
ppisatiinfinity: last comments talk about poor eth performance07:53
ppisatiinfinity: dunno, it came out lately07:53
ppisatiinfinity: but IMO it's the same root cause as all the other problems that we are facing on usb (crap performance, page fault, etcetc)07:54
ppisatiinfinity: and it has always been there07:54
ppisatiinfinity: why don't you downgrade just a couple of boards and try?07:54
infinityppisati: Hrm.  Yeah, nothing in this bug talks about precise kernels at all.07:55
ppisatiinfinity: wait07:55
infinityppisati: And yeah, I'll try some downgrading.  Sadly, I don't have access to them directly, so it's a bit of an annoyance to use them for testing.07:55
ppisatiinfinity: i see07:55
ppisatiinfinity: but what are the symptoms?07:56
infinityUnfortunately, I'm not sure how to reproduce the issues they're having.07:56
infinityThe symptom, from a distance, appears to be occasionally disappearing from the network and/or TCP timeouts.07:56
infinityOnly briefly.07:56
infinityBut just long enough to make the daemon monitoring them go insane.07:56
infinityIt's pretty much universally when they're doing heavy network I/O.07:57
infinityRight at the beginning (downloading chroot and source) or end (uploading built packages) of builds.07:58
infinityWhich is somewhat frustrating, when you wait for 28 hours for a webkit build only to have the whole process explode in the uploading phase. :P07:58
ppisatidoh08:00
infinityAnyhow, I'm trying to fix my sleep schedule a little bit, so I should get to bed.  But I'll get IS to downgrade some machines in the morning and see if they behave better. :/08:07
infinityIf they do, I'm at a loss as to how to report this effectively.08:07
infinity"buildd-manager says the buildds go away sometimes" is a reeeeeally crappy testcase.08:07
ppisatiinfinity: but at least we narrow down the window of troubled commits08:08
infinityppisati: Yeah.  Though, if the old bug was never really properly fixed, we're narrowing it down a commit that "made it worse".08:09
infinityppisati: Maybe that's even more helpful.  Dunno.08:09
ppisatiinfinity: in my opinion, we are still working around it08:09
infinityThe patch we committed was certainly a workaround (and an unpleasant one at that).  I didn't realise that it never got fixed better upstream. :/08:10
apwhttp://people.canonical.com/~kernel/cve/pkg/ALL-linux.html08:46
dileksapw: is eugene teo still maintaining linux CVE stuff?09:03
dilekshttp://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/eugeneteo/linux-cve-tagged.git;a=summary09:04
dileksjust found this, but remember there was a GIT repo with (fixed) CVE issues09:04
apwdileks, i don't think i knew they were doing that?09:13
fredrikjJust want to let you know that the problem with lack of acceleration of my graphics card indeed was caused by me not installing linux-image-extra. After installing linux-image-extra-3.5.0-030500-generic_3.5.0-030500.201207211835_amd64.deb acceleration works like a charm. Thanks again.09:20

josephtI have a similar kernel panic as in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1018547, but it only seems to happen when using the Fn+F2 hotkey to disable/enable the radio.13:57

_rubenhmm .. seeing http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1111966/ more and more often in the logs of a router running gutsy .. guess it's time for both hardware and software upgrades :p14:07
apwgutsy ... boggle15:56
apwjosepht, as yours only happens on wifi rfkill toggle i would recommend getting it to occur and filing a bug on it with ubuntu-bug linux.  also put the backtrace you get in your bug16:00
josephtapw: ack, thanks16:02
* henrix reboots16:29
smbhas anybody seen this too? after upgrading quantal on my acer aspire one and rebooting dmesg and nm connection info shows the lan and wlan connected but the indicator would not show this in the overview for quite some time...16:44

ckingif not, I nominate you ;-)17:48
smbcking, I always suspect apw17:48
ckingsmb, for filing a bug, or just whinging about it? ;-)17:48

Kanohi, is there the code for the efilinux variant which should be used instead of shim?21:40
Kanoor will shim used instead now?21:40
rtgbjf, I saw the armel build breakage for Precise. I've pushed a startnewrelease patch to master-next that fixes the build problem.21:45
