aicasnwhy does tumblerd fire off a ton of qtdemux:sink threads when i copy a video file?02:02
aicasnwas very annoying. kept me from umounting the drive02:04
aicasnbad bad tumblerd02:04
deitrickwhy is this not default in irc?03:18
MaccerI too wonder that.03:18
Unit193Hmmm?03:19
MaccerAlso, does anyone happen to know where the system-wide configurations are stored for the xfce-panel?  I want to change the color, mouseover color, and what not03:19
deitrickin -settings-settings manager ?03:20
deitrickin the menu?03:21
MaccerI tried it, couldn't find anything.03:21
MaccerNothing on color schemes.03:21
MaccerI've also looked into greybird's theme.03:21
deitricktry hidden files in home dir03:21
MaccerThere's tons.  If some one happens to know which one is responsible for the scheme, tell me03:23
deitrickin /.config/xfce maybe?03:23
MaccerAlready looked there03:24
deitrickwhat do you want to do?03:24
MaccerJust change the color scheme.  Actually I found a background-color property...03:24
Unit193Generally it's made so each user can chose their own.03:24
MaccerI mean, I can change the panel background color, but I can't change the mouse over and other things03:25
deitricklike the theme?03:25
MaccerKind of.  The theme has no configuration files for the panel color though03:25
deitrickyou can put it as an image it says. So perhaps make an image that is the color you want.03:26
MaccerI don't understand.03:28
deitrickin the menu go to /settings/settings manager03:29
deitrickgo to apperance03:29
MaccerNot sure what to find.  Nothing about the panel2's or panel color schemes in general03:30
MaccerOh wait, maybe icons control color schemes?  Bleh03:30
deitrickwait! I figured it out. right click on panel, go to panel prefrences, then apperance. Then you can set the colour with 3 bars.03:33
MaccerNo I see that, but it doesn't control the mouse over color schemes and what not. :P03:33
deitrickmouse over color schemes?03:34
MaccerWhen you mouse over a tabbed window for example03:34
MaccerOr the window you happen to be focused on, the tab has a different scheme03:35
deitrickI have no idea :(03:35
Maccerit's ok. <303:35
MaccerHrm, maybe the gtkrc is borrowing a theme style?03:38
Unit193Settings manager > Window manager03:42
* Maccer shakes his head03:45
=== deitrick is now known as trickyhero
MaccerI don't understand this gtk shade property.  Is this used to blend the color with black or something?03:53
MaccerOh well, off to the #gtk channel I go then.03:54
trickyherogood luck03:54
MaccerWon't be necessary because no one is really there anyways, lulz.03:56
MaccerYeah gtkrc doesn't do anything to change the panel color.  I don't understand this craziness.04:09
ColonelHey04:21
Unit193Howdy.04:21
ColonelHaving trouble with an install04:21
Maccero/04:21
Colonelmy motherboard is an ASUS P8Z77-V04:21
Colonelit locks up right at the "Choose a Language" screen04:21
Colonelthe machine becomes totally unresponsive04:22
ColonelI've checked the disk04:22
ColonelI've tried LiveCDs of other distrosa04:22
MaccerYeah, looks like you're not the only one.04:23
ColonelI can boot into a Live environment, but the installer always locks up right at the start04:23
MaccerCtrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work either?  Magic SysRQ?04:23
Unit193You could always try the alternate installer.04:23
Colonel I'm trying it now04:24
MaccerYeah, that's what I would suggest04:24
Colonelno dice04:24
MaccerOne thing I noticed though, this isn't an amd/intel or chipset thing.  Are you using an out of the ordinary keyboard?  This is just speculation though.04:25
Colonelwhen I Ctrl-Alt-F1, the screen goes black and the machine locks up right away04:25
ColonelIt's a wireless USB keyboard...04:26
MaccerThat's the thing, when you do ctrl+alt+f1, it's supposed to open up a virtual terminal.  I guess that's indication the kernel hasn't crashed yet.04:26
MaccerMmh... have any other keyboards at home?  (Again, pure speculation.)  Maybe the driver/kernel locks up when it tries to detect your keyboard interface04:26
ColonelIt's not a CLI though. It just goes black. The HDD activity LED is on steady though04:26
ColonelI have a wired USB kb04:27
Colonelshould I try that?04:27
gattonanyone have a dropbox account? i'm gonna create one and if you send me a referral we'll both get 500mb additional space04:27
Unit193I have one. :P04:27
MaccerI suppose.  Also, the ACPI driver for your chipset could be bugging.  You could add acpi=off to your installation parameters.04:27
ColonelI've been using the wireless kb/m setup to install various Linux distros for years with no incident04:28
gattonunit193 you are the winner. i'll msg you my email04:28
Maccer(You can do this I think by pressing F6 when it tries to prompt a language)04:28
ColonelHold on... I'll try04:28
MaccerYou could also try it along with nomodeset with F6 (other options)04:30
Colonelkeyboard made no difference04:31
MaccerWhat about acpi=off in F6?04:31
Colonelit locked up even before getting to the language screen04:31
Colonelhold on... trying shutting off ACPI04:32
MaccerYou could also of course come into #linux as this is obviously a lower-level problem.  Also, does your motherboard have an onboard wireless lan controller?04:34
MaccerBecause your chipset is definitely supported. (Intel Z77)04:34
Colonelit appears to be working with acpi=off04:37
Maccer!04:38
Colonelwhat does that do, exactly?04:38
Colonelis it something to do with the video chipset?04:38
MaccerSome standardized power management interface.04:38
ColonelHmmm... what shall I name this machine?04:39
ColonelGLaDOS?04:39
ColonelW.O.P.R.?04:39
ColonelGibson?04:39
ColonelWintermute?04:39
MaccerIt's used for power management and device configuration.  On a desktop, it isn't necessary that you have it.  In-fact, you can probably turn it off in your motherboard BIOS.  However if this was a laptop, I'd be more worried.04:40
ColonelI didn't see an option to turn it off in the BIOS04:40
MaccerBut uhh... when you install it.  You'll probably have to change your boot options to acpi=off too.  And you'll have to edit your boot menu later on.04:40
MaccerAny options related to it at all?  On my EVGA motherboard I could change the protocol compatibility.  It's ACPI isn't fully compatible with mine but it still booted.04:41
ColonelNothing that I could see04:41
ColonelI even checked in the Power Management settings04:42
Colonelmaybe I missed it04:42
ColonelI have a hackintosh here that I built, and that was an issue with getting OSX to run04:42
Colonelbut that's built on a Gigabyte motherboard, not an ASUS04:43
MaccerBut windows works on the computer you were having issues with?04:43
ColonelDunno04:43
ColonelI haven't tried installing Windows on it04:44
ColonelWhy the hell would I?04:44
Maccerlolidunnolulz04:44
ColonelIt's a nice computer. Why mess it all up?04:44
MaccerBecause you don't have ACPI enabled, I don't think you'll be able to go into sleep mode and some other power options.04:44
MaccerI don't know, hope this isn't a severe hardware problem.  On my old laptop, the ACPI bugging was a symptom of something else04:45
MaccerI'm not sure if ACPI is effected by power supplies, but it could be04:46
ColonelWhat exactly is the issue with ACPI?04:46
MaccerWith your asus desktop?  Who knows.  Hell, I'm not even sure how you'll be able to test or debug acpi with your system locking up.  By the way, we never figured out if the magic sysrq keys worked on it...04:47
MaccerOh well, if you want to bother.  You could ask the uhh... "experts" on linux what you can do to debug acpi on your freezing asus.04:48
ColonelWell it's going into a rack cabinet04:48
ColonelMaybe I'll just put FreeBSD/FreeNAS on it and make it my storage machine04:49
Colonelthen get another mobo to build my main Linux box on04:49
MaccerActually, speaking of which ACPI works oddly on linux for me.  I can't resume from a suspend/sleep properly.04:50
ColonelHeh04:50
ColonelI never noticed any particular problems with the sleep04:50
Colonelmy machine usually just runs all the time04:50
Colonelthe hard drives and monitor will shut off, but the machine never turns off04:51
MaccerSo has anyone here been able to run gnomenu?06:57
MaccerDoes anyone happen to know what interface is to graphically remove a ppa?07:12
MaccerSysi?07:12
ouyeswhat do you think is the most valuable certificate in the information technology industry?08:01
TheSheeproot certificate for ssl08:13
TheSheepMaccer: system -> software sources08:16
MaccerTheSheep:  Sorry, I should have said that I got it working.  It was removed for some reason and I asked out of heavy frustration, lol.08:17
TheSheepyou can also go to synaptic and remove it from there08:17
TheSheepfrom settings->repositories08:18
shuerhaakenHi all! Standard ubuntu seems to refuse to use the "org.freedesktop.thumbnails.Thumbnailer1" dbus interface of the thumbnailing standard. Does anybody know what they are using for thumbnailing instead of tumbler? Seems I can't get a reply on other ubuntu channels.11:36
deitrickGuys, schouldn't we have a gui firewall utility installed by default? I just realized my ports were all open and got one.13:25
Sysifirewall is basically useless, can't do anythong with ports that don't have anything listening and the ones that have need to be open anyway13:27
PiciDespite all ports being open by default, there isn't anything listening on those ports.13:27
deitrickok. so its fine to not have a firewall, thats good.13:28

aguitelhow install somthing like alacarte in xfce ?21:16
David-Aaguitel: if i recall correctly, nothing like alacarte in xfce, but you can choose two different sessions at login that gives two different menu structures21:30
aguiteli have only one session in login21:32
drcalacarte, the GNOME menu editor?  What's wrong with Main Menu ?21:34
David-Aaguitel: in login screen should be an option "xfce session" or "xubuntu session"21:36
aguitelDavid-A, ok21:38
Unit193drc: Same thing, actually, and that's only in 12.10, right?21:40
Unit193alacarte works in xubuntu, just need --no-install-recommends and need to pull in something that's listed aws rec but is a dep.21:41
David-Aaguitel: in xubuntu 12.04 alacarte works and installed by default, settings>main menu, or rightclick menu>properties>edit menu21:52
