Guest7013hey guys does anyone know why xubuntu doesnt have window tiling whereas the linux mint version has it?01:25
Guest7013is anyone even here?01:27
sdejean_at_gnGuest43253, I think that has to do w/ XFCE version01:45
sdejean_at_gnGuest43253, xubuntu is still on 4.8 for their LTS release, Mint is on 4.1001:46
n2diyRecently upgraded from 10.xx LTS to 12.04 LTS, and no more youtube or facebook videos!? Restricted Extras and Adobe Installer are installed, what gives?03:21
etraskHello all. I have the latest Xubuntu installed but when I am trying to connect to my wireless password, in the dialog where it asks for my password, the "Connect" button is grayed out after I paste it in. What gives?03:37
etraskwireless network*, sorry03:38
MaccerToo long, invalid format, etrask?03:39
MaccerDepending on the encryption there's different requirements.  Make sure you're not violating any of them03:39
etraskMaccer: can't be, it is the password. I trimmed it for invalid characters too. It works under Windows and on other machines03:40
MaccerAre you sure it's properly pasting it?  I can try checking my laptop I guess...03:40
etraskmaybe that was it, I tried copy/pasting from a different app and it worked03:42
etraskthanks Maccer!03:42
etraskyeah I use WPA2 and always make the password random gibberish, 63 characters long. I couldn't type or remember it to save my life but luckily you mostly only ever need it once :P03:42
Unit193Heh, I've had to type that before, many times.  Not fun.03:43
MaccerYeap.  Worked from uhh... leafpad over here.03:43
Unit193n2diy: Try dpkg -l |grep flash    and tell us what the output is.03:43
etraskthat's the default text editor? Wasn't working for me for whatever reason03:44
etraskcat'd to a terminal and copied THAT and THAT worked. Who knows03:44
etraskalrighty thanks guys03:45
n2diyUnit193,  that only returned  " Adobe Flash Player Installer".03:49
Unit193And a name, but I personally would purge that, enable the partner repo, and install adobe-flashplugin.03:50
MaccerDoes anyone here happen to know how you would get epsxe to recognize outdated libgtk-1.2?  The problem is, I can't install it because it complains about a dependency.  If I manually extract it to /usr/lib32, epsxe still scans into /usr/lib03:51
Maccer(I'm on a 64-bit system, and I need both the 64-bit and 32-bit version of libgtk-1.2 because some one decided it was a good idea to remove it in 12.04)03:52
MaccerDoes anyone happen to know how to fix this conflict?  I have an old 32-bit application that reads /usr/lib (64-bit) instead of /usr/lib32.  Is there any work around I can do to fix this?  (64-bit system with both 32-bit and 64-bit libs)05:27

goliatHui. I'm running Win 7 & Xubuntu in dual boot. I have the issue though that every time I've used Xubuntu and start up Windows the clock is two hours behind, in Xubuntu it's fine. It's only when I have used Xubuntu and log into windows.09:18
TheSheepgoliat: that's because xubuntu uses utc time, you can change it in the settings, let me find it09:21

DarkSimIs there any way to make a panel usable while desktop is active?11:48
TheSheepDarkSim: what do you mean?11:49
DarkSimI like the idea of a panel that becomes visible when I hover over it like the standard of xubuntu uses11:49
DarkSimbut I usually have maximized windows and tend to move the mouse to the top of the window only to open it by mistake11:50
DarkSimSo if it could only become possible to bring forth when I have the desktop as active window, I would not accidentally bring it up all the time :P11:51
TheSheepI don't think it's possible11:52
TheSheepone thing that comes to mind is to use desklets instead of a panel11:52
DarkSimHm, perhaps if I could increase the timer before the panel popped up11:53
DarkSimMaybe it should happen that often11:53
DarkSimn't*11:54
TheSheepDarkSim: or you could make it not span the whole width od the screen11:54
TheSheepDarkSim: leave some space in the corner11:54
DarkSimit doesn't take the whole top that's the problem11:55
DarkSimI'm used to touch the middle of a window somehow lol11:55
TheSheepyou could also put it on some other side of the screen11:55
DarkSim"Get Ubuntu, they said" "It doesn't need system restarts like Windows, they said"11:56
DarkSimLawl, rebooting anyway, ta-ta11:56

nooitgedachtTheSheep: /var/log/kern.log.1 is blank, is that normal?12:04
nooitgedachtTheSheep:  /var/log/dmesg.0 is full of stuff I don't understand, do you know what it says before it goes down?12:06
nooitgedachtTheSheep: Thanks for your help12:06
DarkSimTheSheep: adrian@DarkSim-Ubuntu:~$ chmod +x $HOME/bin/toggle-touch.sh12:06
DarkSimchmod: cannot access `/home/adrian/bin/toggle-touch.sh': No such file or directory12:06
DarkSimnot even if I remove /bin from the dir12:07
DarkSimsince it's just straight into my folder12:07
TheSheepDarkSim: you have to first create that file with a text editor, and paste that code into it12:07
DarkSimI have done that12:07
TheSheephad you done that, it wouldn't sat "no such file"12:08
TheSheepsay*12:08
DarkSimJust a quick question, IF I have already made it an executable, will it give me an error too?12:08
TheSheepno12:12
DarkSimtoggle-touch.sh is the name12:13
DarkSimit's in my folder called adrian12:13
DarkSimthe command is copied to the letter12:13
DarkSimapart from the device name which is specific to my tablet12:13
TheSheepDarkSim: then use the correct path to that file12:14
DarkSimIs there any easy way to get the full path?12:15
DarkSimNevermind12:16
DarkSimI have solved the touch problem even if I don't a single idea why12:17
DarkSimThe thing is that I set it up properly about 3 months ago when I first tried Ubuntu with Unity12:17
DarkSimwhen I switched to Xubuntu the shortcut was lost, I forgot that the first time I and a guy who helped me created a executable .sh file but it couldn't be called anything but test12:18
DarkSimI don't remember what that was all about, but I found that test.sh and used that as a shortcut instead12:18
DarkSimIf you do have an explanation for that occurance, you can feel free to try and explain it but for now it's time to try my drawing skills12:20

tech1i having a problem with multiple monitors. i could fit my new monitor into the pci graphics card then an nvidia x server app would appear in my menu and it would work... but now i stuck both my new monitors in my mobo so i have dual screens.. im trying to stick a 3rd older monitor in the pci graphics card now and in settings-display i can see it, i click use this output, but it never sticks(when i go back again it is disa12:49
tech1bled).. and i can see it in arandr but if i click apply in the layout with the 3rd monitor, i get crt not found error12:49
TheSheeptech1: sounds like you need to report a bug to nvidia12:50
tech1is there a better program for monitor settings i can install? or some sort of full guide somewhere with a list of commands for doing it manually?12:51
TheSheeptech1: once you are at it, you could also tell them to open source their drivers finally12:51
TheSheeptech1: you can try xrandr12:51
TheSheeptech1: it's a command line tool12:51

c_smithhi, is there a way to completely convert my Kubuntu OS into Xubuntu without reinstalling?13:30
TheSheepsure13:31
c_smiththen is installing xubuntu-desktop enough?13:31
c_smithcurrently doing that, but wanted to know if it was possible to remove most of the KDE apps (save a select few) for space reasons.13:32
c_smithit is possible, correct?13:32
TheSheepc_smith: sure, you can remove anything you don't want13:37
c_smithcool. thanks man! :D13:37
c_smiththough tbh, later I'll likely do a proper conversion to make sure I get rid of most of the junk (including configs)13:37
c_smithjust don't have time atm.13:38
TheSheepc_smith: if you remove the kubuntu-dekstop and then run 'sudo apt-get autoremove', it should remove all the non-xubuntu apps13:38
c_smithalright.13:38
TheSheepc_smith: use the --purge option for apt-get to make it delete the configs too13:38
c_smithI wonder, would the support for that still constitute for Kubuntu, or would I essentially switch it to Xubuntu's support terms (which are different in LTS than Kubuntu and Ubuntu)13:39
c_smithnot that I use LTSes overly much.13:39
TheSheepno idea13:40
c_smithalright.13:40
TheSheepyou will still get any upgrades for the common part13:40
c_smithwell, that's all the questions I wanted answered. thanks! :D13:40

tnorrisThere must be a short in the laptop keyboard. it doesn't happen with my external keyboard.21:07
tnorrisugh21:07
Sysicheck power manager settings, stuff sbout pushing buttons21:07
tnorrisSysi: heh, dirty fix of just disabling the power button worked. That will have to do until I figure out what's going on.21:09
tnorristhanks for the tip21:09
Sysiadjusting features is not dirty fix..21:10
tnorrisSysi: what I meant is that the shutdown command is still being sent when I hit left-alt, and disabling that feature because I can't fix the actual problem is what I would call a dirty fix.21:11
Sysiyou could try changing keyboard model in settings21:13
xubuntu144hi guys21:40
xubuntu144just a question if someone is listening here :)21:41
xubuntu144im trying to install xubuntu on a hp t5740 thin client21:41
GridCubemmhm?21:41
xubuntu144is there a way to customize the setup to it takes something like 500MB of space instead of 4.7GB?21:41
Unit193!mini21:42
ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want (the installer is like the one on the !Alternate CD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD21:42
GridCubeif you install from the alternate iso instead of the desktop iso it usually takes a lot less21:42
xubuntu144i downloaded the 600MB'ish iso21:42
xubuntu144but its still willing  a lot more21:42
GridCubei've installed the alternate iso on 4gb machines with about 2gb free after that21:43
GridCubebut if you are concerned about space you should check lubuntu21:43
xubuntu144oh 27MB, alright :)21:43
GridCubeor even smaller distros like tinycore21:43
xubuntu144will the minimal cd install give me a desktop?21:44
well_laid_lawnno just cli21:46
xubuntu144ok, testing lubuntu then21:46
xubuntu144loading...21:51
xubuntu144it is saying it needs 4.4GB of install space, is it not installing on my usb stick?21:53
GridCubexubuntu144, it needs that space to leave a working enviroment, for files and stuff21:58
xubuntu144lubuntu is too big for the space i got, i have 2GB21:58
GridCubexubuntu144, check tinycore21:58
xubuntu144it just gave an error and stopped the install process after giving a name to the machine21:58
xubuntu144checking tinycore21:58
xubuntu144does it have a desktop? the aim is to run xbmc21:59
GridCubeits not ubuntu based, but it works21:59
GridCubexubuntu144, it sure does21:59

tech1i had 2 monitors (dual setup)in my mobos gpu. i moved my pc so unplugged them and replugged them in the same way but when i restrated the pc it set my pci card as default again... i set the gpu as default in the bios...restarted and still the pci was default but now the gpu option is missing from my bios.... now in arandr i can only see one the one monitor output, instead of the bunch of mobo gpu outputs i had before... i22:13
tech1s my mobo's gpu damaged from replugging somehow... or do i need to do some special xrandr config to detect them again?22:13
xubuntu144the thing is i got no OS running on that machine, so i cant write on HDD22:18
xubuntu144is there an iso that installs on HDD?22:18
GridCubexubuntu144, you could copy the files from another live session22:22

tech1theres a button that says "aquire edid" for the second monitor.. could this help?22:28
tech1hmmmm... and on nvidia xserver although i cant use the second display it has detected them both...it says dfp-0 on gpu0 and crt1 on gpu0.....isnt gpu meant to be for the mobo?22:30
