=== vorsorken_ is now known as vorsorken === vj is now known as Guest7013 [01:25] hey guys does anyone know why xubuntu doesnt have window tiling whereas the linux mint version has it? [01:27] is anyone even here? [01:45] Guest43253, I think that has to do w/ XFCE version [01:46] Guest43253, xubuntu is still on 4.8 for their LTS release, Mint is on 4.10 [03:21] Recently upgraded from 10.xx LTS to 12.04 LTS, and no more youtube or facebook videos!? Restricted Extras and Adobe Installer are installed, what gives? [03:37] Hello all. I have the latest Xubuntu installed but when I am trying to connect to my wireless password, in the dialog where it asks for my password, the "Connect" button is grayed out after I paste it in. What gives? [03:38] wireless network*, sorry [03:39] Too long, invalid format, etrask? [03:39] Depending on the encryption there's different requirements. Make sure you're not violating any of them [03:40] Maccer: can't be, it is the password. I trimmed it for invalid characters too. It works under Windows and on other machines [03:40] Are you sure it's properly pasting it? I can try checking my laptop I guess... [03:42] maybe that was it, I tried copy/pasting from a different app and it worked [03:42] thanks Maccer! [03:42] yeah I use WPA2 and always make the password random gibberish, 63 characters long. I couldn't type or remember it to save my life but luckily you mostly only ever need it once :P [03:43] Heh, I've had to type that before, many times. Not fun. [03:43] Yeap. Worked from uhh... leafpad over here. [03:43] n2diy: Try dpkg -l |grep flash and tell us what the output is. [03:44] that's the default text editor? Wasn't working for me for whatever reason [03:44] cat'd to a terminal and copied THAT and THAT worked. Who knows [03:45] alrighty thanks guys [03:49] Unit193, that only returned " Adobe Flash Player Installer". [03:50] And a name, but I personally would purge that, enable the partner repo, and install adobe-flashplugin. [03:51] Does anyone here happen to know how you would get epsxe to recognize outdated libgtk-1.2? The problem is, I can't install it because it complains about a dependency. If I manually extract it to /usr/lib32, epsxe still scans into /usr/lib [03:52] (I'm on a 64-bit system, and I need both the 64-bit and 32-bit version of libgtk-1.2 because some one decided it was a good idea to remove it in 12.04) [05:27] Does anyone happen to know how to fix this conflict? I have an old 32-bit application that reads /usr/lib (64-bit) instead of /usr/lib32. Is there any work around I can do to fix this? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD [21:42] if you install from the alternate iso instead of the desktop iso it usually takes a lot less [21:42] i downloaded the 600MB'ish iso [21:42] but its still willing a lot more [21:43] i've installed the alternate iso on 4gb machines with about 2gb free after that [21:43] but if you are concerned about space you should check lubuntu [21:43] oh 27MB, alright :) [21:43] or even smaller distros like tinycore [21:44] will the minimal cd install give me a desktop? [21:46] no just cli [21:46] ok, testing lubuntu then [21:51] loading... [21:53] it is saying it needs 4.4GB of install space, is it not installing on my usb stick? [21:58] xubuntu144, it needs that space to leave a working enviroment, for files and stuff [21:58] lubuntu is too big for the space i got, i have 2GB [21:58] xubuntu144, check tinycore [21:58] it just gave an error and stopped the install process after giving a name to the machine [21:58] checking tinycore [21:59] does it have a desktop? the aim is to run xbmc [21:59] its not ubuntu based, but it works [21:59] xubuntu144, it sure does [21:59] :) check it [21:59] sorry to be dumb, which iso of tinycore shall i choose? [21:59] xubuntu144, if your objective is to use xbmc why dont you just simply install geexbox? [22:00] because i dont know it exists :) what is it? [22:00] xbmc in an iso [22:00] http://www.geexbox.org/ [22:01] can i deploy it on an usb stick with linux live usb creator? [22:01] i mean make it ready to be installed... [22:01] it should run from it [22:01] no need to install [22:02] ??? [22:02] i want it to run from internal mem [22:02] oh, it can do that aswell :) [22:02] doing................ [22:02] :) [22:04] there is only "start" not "install"? [22:05] xubuntu144, :) read their wikis [22:06] or google, there are ways [22:06] i rememeber doing it on previous versions of geexbox, before they used xbmc [22:06] http://www.geexbox.org/geexbox-for-pc-booting-from-hdd/ [22:13] i had 2 monitors (dual setup)in my mobos gpu. i moved my pc so unplugged them and replugged them in the same way but when i restrated the pc it set my pci card as default again... i set the gpu as default in the bios...restarted and still the pci was default but now the gpu option is missing from my bios.... now in arandr i can only see one the one monitor output, instead of the bunch of mobo gpu outputs i had before... i [22:13] s my mobo's gpu damaged from replugging somehow... or do i need to do some special xrandr config to detect them again? [22:18] the thing is i got no OS running on that machine, so i cant write on HDD [22:18] is there an iso that installs on HDD? [22:22] xubuntu144, you could copy the files from another live session [22:22] tech1, you could try configuring using arandr [22:23] ah sorry [22:23] dindt read completely [22:23] * GridCube hides [22:27] arandr only shows 1 output... the nvidia xserver thing has come up again though... funny because when i had the monitors in the gpu, i couldnt get the pci/nvidia stuff up at all.... now all i can get is nvidia [22:28] except i cant setup the second monitor on nvidia for some reason... the apply button is greyd out [22:28] theres a button that says "aquire edid" for the second monitor.. could this help? [22:30] hmmmm... and on nvidia xserver although i cant use the second display it has detected them both...it says dfp-0 on gpu0 and crt1 on gpu0.....isnt gpu meant to be for the mobo? [22:31] ahhh [22:31] ok i have the second monitor working with nvidia [22:31] sort off.. [22:33] when i move a window to the second monitor... everything dissapears off the primary [22:40] ok im going to restard and try the bios again... [22:47] damn it still missing from bios [22:52] aha! [22:52] ok i have the nvidia second monitor set up properly now [22:53] the windows on the primary dissapeared because i moved it to the left when the secondary was set to right [22:56] now to reboot and hope it stays like this... [23:07] it works! i have won [23:22] ok i could install puppy but after rebooting, it looks like its only a blinking cursor lol
