[00:13] Hello everyone :) [00:41] if anyone has time... I bought a Hauppauge HVR-1600 .... I did quick research, found that it was supported (or so I thought) in linux. I'm having 1 HECK of a time getting it to work in Mythbuntu. Any tips? I followed what was in the wiki, it seems the kernel see's the card, blah blah blah ... just can't get it to scan for channels? [01:00] wangel, my hvr-1600 works fine === tgm4883` is now known as tgm4883 [01:12] tgm; man I am having 1 heck of a time getting it to work =( [01:12] are you using it for OTA signals only? [01:19] wangel, use my full nick and it will ping me when you respond [01:19] wangel, no, I'm using it with comcast [01:19] wangel, what type of card did you set it up as in mythtv-setup? [01:20] tgm4883; ahh. Hmm. My cable company requires us to use a "digital minibox" so I assume that means the channels are encrypted. I wanted to use it to grab the OTA signals. [01:20] tgm4883; I set it up as the DVB using the frontend0 device, and the analog as Mpg2 using /dev/video0 [01:20] wangel, Have you tried using it connected to cable without the box? [01:20] worth a shot I say [01:21] I don't even bother with the analog [01:21] I have not, but I can try. [01:21] Ok [01:21] then I'll leave analog alone. nothing uses it right? [01:22] When I told it to do a channel scan, it used uhm... VS8 ? It never found anything... figured that's where I was going wrong. [01:22] yea that isn't right [01:22] where do you live? [01:22] Louisville [01:22] KY [01:23] if it's any help [01:23] I uhm [01:23] zip? [01:23] 47130 [01:23] found a website in the uk ... forgot the url [01:23] that had me install dvb-utils [01:24] wangel, insight cable? [01:24] and I was able to something like scan /usr/share/dbn/atsc/us-atscxxxxxxxxx [01:24] Yep, insight cable [01:24] hook it up to cable and use qam256 [01:24] really? haha [01:24] they don't encode channels? [01:24] wangel, it's possible some are encrypted [01:24] ah, ok [01:24] wangel, http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/lineup_web/US:47130#lineup_8312821 [01:24] [www.silicondust.com] N/A [01:25] OTA is 8vsb [01:25] oh wow [01:25] yah [01:25] yah, 8vsb! [01:25] that's what I used [01:25] or thought I did [01:25] there is no guarentee that you will get anything on cable, but it's worth a shot [01:25] yah [01:25] wangel, I don't recall the last time I scanned for channels [01:25] i'll try it :D [01:26] I might have just fetched via schedules direct [01:26] ah [01:26] or fed in a channels.conf [01:26] ya [01:27] wangel, what version of mythtv? [01:27] I downloaded the latest version of mythbuntu off the website [01:27] I didn't run apt-get upgrade or anything tho [01:28] I'd activate the mythtv updates repo and do the upgrade [01:28] lots of fixes since the released version [01:29] ok [01:29] I'll do that [01:29] Are you around during the day? err, are you in the states? Heh [01:29] oregon [01:30] oh, cool [01:30] i'm gunna mess w/ it more tomorrow.
