[00:03] I have no idea why he has a ui file in there [00:04] crazy people I tell you [01:02] apachelogger_: What release is the fix you committed for https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296944 included in? [01:02] KDE bug 296944 in Contacts resource "Possible data loss if the destination folder doesn't exists" [Critical,Resolved: fixed] [02:31] yay for JontheEchidna! [02:31] thanks :) [02:31] is quantal alpha really stable enough to use right now? [02:31] I see that Mamarok is already in it [02:32] yeah, it's probably past the catasrophic failure point [02:32] apachelogger_ told me to install the quantal cmake, so I wonder if just upgrading now makes sense [02:32] like when dpkg broke before quantal alpha [02:32] maybe I should do a backup first [02:32] I guess that's always wise [02:33] I ended up removing every package trying to fix dpkg :P [02:33] I'm not always wise [02:33] you are the guy to do that though! [02:33] I'm so happy to see the team getting so much support [02:33] KDE and Kubuntu are gonna rock [02:39] oh, is the datacenter move going to affect the upgrade files? [02:40] well, just that build times for PPA packages are now upwards of a day [02:41] wowzers [02:41] maybe after the move they will be snappier? [02:41] I assume the sysadmins are doing some improvements as they do the move [02:42] one can hope ;-) [02:42] sure [02:42] I hang out in the kde sysadmin chan, and they are awesome [02:42] in general, I have the utmost respect for sysadmins [02:42] they are much under-appreciated [02:52] agreed [02:52] 2 and a quarter years ago I did some IT interning [02:52] it can be a bit stressfull [02:53] I once took a four how maintenance window to do a hard drive change on a system. I figured it was a 30 minute job, but being cautious, I scheduled more than I needed. [02:54] I got the whole thing together and discovered that the hard drive controller I had with the disk drives I had, wouldn't work with whatever Linux kernel I had. [02:55] Fortunately, I had a stack of parts for a new server I was going to build soon. [02:55] I turned to that, built the new box, installed Ubuntu Server, configured all the services, and had it in operation just before the 4 hour window ended. [02:55] nice [02:56] Actually it wasn't supposed to be a new server. It was supposed to be a new desktop for my wife. [02:56] Not the most pleasant conversation we've ever had when she got home from work that day. [02:57] She understood, but wasn't thrilled. [02:57] my mother doesn't like computer maintenance. she always blames new problems on the previous repair. [02:58] my dad would set her up with Linux since he hates doing windows maintenance, but she needs proprietary finance apps for accounting stuff she does... [03:01] there was one time in the late 90's when my dad introduced her to xboing and a jewel-stacking tetris clone on one of the old Redhat releases. [03:01] She got addicted to those, and as a result dual-booted linux for a whlie [03:01] (she loves facebook games these days) [03:18] she can always run win in a VM [03:18] for the accounting apps [03:19] ok, should update the netbook so I have a standby computer, do the backups and then the upgrade [03:19] bbiab [03:37] JontheEchidna: RE: proprietary finance apps - the 2 top ones, Peachtree & Quickbooks, both have web based versions that work just fine with Linux, and are actually better than the client versions [03:37] i use quickbooks myself, w/o a single windows computer on my network [03:38] nixternal: it's for a church, the division of which the church belongs to paid one of their kids to make some crappy software in what's probably VB.NET. [03:39] nepotism + church = bad software [03:39] hahahahaha, now that sucks [03:39] figured it was one of the only 2 that are any good [03:39] otherwise she uses Quickbooks [03:39] lol [03:39] i have tried all of the open source ones out there. they don't even compare [03:40] i would rather be stricken with a lifetime of windows 3.1 than have to use an opensource accounting solution [03:41] i swear, open source accounting and project management apps are so over engineered it isn't even funny. just google open source project management & have fun. crm is the same as well [03:42] speaking of windows 3.1, she used Quicken back then on Windows 3.1. Made this memorable beep whenever she would enter something [03:42] bobeep! [03:43] hahaha [03:43] probably used the system bell to do that [05:22] * ScottK waves to nixternal . I was able to use http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#kubuntu-devel, but not Quassel. [21:06] or is it not my company's network, but this item in the freenode FAQ ... [21:06] Open proxies are blocked because they are often used as gateways to the network for disruptive behavior that is difficult to stop. There is nothing to uniquely identify a proxied user. For VPNs and similar anonymizing services we can (and do) mitigate this by requiring SASL. This allows a user to voluntarily provide a unique identifier that can be used to mitigate abuse if necessary.
