codemaniacis there any community servers around i can use as test bed for Ubuntu packaging ?17:59
jtaylorcodemaniac: why can't you use your own machine?18:03
jtaylorI think members get time limited free access to some HP cloud which you could use18:04
KihokkiHello! Does anybody know when Intel GMA3600 drivers are released for Ubuntu? I found this: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/precise/cedarview-graphics-drivers/precise-proposed18:05
codemaniaci actually dont have permanent access to Ubuntu system . :|18:05
codemaniacjtaylor: can i get a limited access to start with packaging .18:06
jtaylorI don't think so18:06
jtayloramazon offers a micro instance free for a year18:06
jtaylorbut its probably to slow for packaging18:06
codemaniacjtaylor: do i always need a development release for packaging ?18:07
jtaylorcodemaniac: no, you don't even need to use ubuntu18:07
jtaylorcodemaniac: though a debian based distro helps18:07
codemaniacthats great18:07
codemaniaci have a debian server , but no root access , will that help18:08
jtaylorcodemaniac: no you do need root :/18:08
codemaniaci can contact the admin s though if required18:08
jtaylorcodemaniac: can't you use a virtual machine on your local machine?18:12
codemaniacok18:17
codemaniacjtaylor: i have managed a Ubuntu server with root access , will that help18:18
codemaniacdo we need GUI tools for packaging18:18
codemaniacSo far i have not read about any GUI tool son MOTU docs .18:19
jtaylorthere are guis, but they are generally not recommended18:19
jtaylorif you want to package seriously you must learn the command line tools18:20
codemaniacjtaylor: i am quite familiar with linux commandline and native unix tools18:21
codemaniacjtaylor: do i need to upgrade the server version to 12.1018:21
codemaniacprecise has been installed over it right now18:22
jtaylorcodemaniac: no, you can use pbuilder-dist to create 12.10 working environment18:22
jtaylorpbuilder-dist quantal amd64 create18:23

RhondaIf cousteau comes around again, I am not responsible for the uptime of the system, only for the codebase. :)19:24
RhondaAh, xnox jumped in.19:25
xnoxRhonda: I remember somebody came back from vacation and was replying to backlogs19:26
nigelbRhonda: Oh, you own that codebase now?19:26
xnox"pers-1: oh this is a horrible bug", half an hour later "pers-2: oooh this might fix", 10 minutes later "pers-3: thanks for taking care of that"19:27
xnoxalmost wants me to say read *all* the scrollback before replying =)19:27
Rhondanigelb: Who "owns" a git repository? :)19:31
nigelbheh19:32
nigelbwhoever has a last commit? :D19:32
RhondaBut I have access to deploy on the system, if that's what you mean.19:32
xnoxRhonda: ooh it's back! =)19:34
RhondaThat's neither my fault, xnox ;)19:37
cousteauthis is UNFAIR!20:09
cousteauwhy was the package nvidia-173 fixed but not nvidia-96?20:09
cousteau(and, could it be fixed in the same way the -173 was?)20:09
xnoxcousteau: what do you mean by "fixed"?20:11
xnoxcousteau: marked to be incompatible?20:11
cousteauxnox, a broken dependency has been replaced by a working one20:11
cousteauxorg-video-abi-10 by xorg-video-abi-1120:12
cousteau(I think)20:12
cousteaups: I'm talking about precise20:12
cousteau(not sure if this was fixed quite long ago)20:13
Rhondacousteau: Hey.  Btw., I can do nothing about server not reachable or down.  I am only behind the codebase tinkering. :)20:31
RhondaI'm not in the canonical sysadmin team (unfortunately)20:31
cousteauok, good to know...  thanks anyway  :)20:33
* ajmitch looks up & sees complaints about binary drivers22:05
* xnox .oO(the complaints look down on ajmitch)22:14
ajmitchprobably22:15
ajmitchit's not like we can do a lot about old binary drivers :)22:15
astraljavaI was really surprised to see that nouveau works very well on that one 3D game that I occasionally play. I'm happy to see that moving away from proprietary (totally) is again a little closer. :)22:18
