ubottuKDE bug 305498 in general "kde ignores Emulate3Buttons option from xorg" [Normal,Resolved: downstream]00:40
killownthe developer is saying this is a kubuntu issue00:40
SIR_Tacokillown: have you done what Mr. Feck suggested in your bug report?00:47
killownSIR_Taco, what is #kubuntu is for?00:51
SIR_Tacokillown:  KDE 3.4.2 is what you are using?00:53
killownSIR_Taco, 4.900:53
SIR_Tacokillown: What are you trying to accomplish exactly?01:01
NuttsHi all. Having lots of trouble installing kubuntu lts. The boot CD keeps freezing up. Anybody else had this issue?01:01
SIR_TacoNutts: which Kubuntu/Ubuntu version?01:03
Nutts12.04 PP01:03
SIR_TacoNutts: did you run the "check disc for errors" option from the menu when you boot from the disc?01:12
NuttsI did not. I only checked the MD5 on the iso and it came back ok. recommended?01:13
juan_HOLA01:17
SIR_TacoNutts: It's worth a shot... there are many things that could be wrong01:17
NuttsSIR_Taco: test passed. Would you recommend the memory test?01:21
SIR_TacoNutts: yes I would, but it's going to take awhile01:21
SIR_TacoNutts: you don't get any sort of error while installing? can't hit CTRL-ALT-F1 or F2, etc. to get to a terminal?01:22
NuttsSir_Taco: nope. basically everything seems to be going fine. But the scrolling dots stop moving and the cd drive stops spinning after another minute or so. all hard drive activity stops01:26
NuttsNo errors on the screen01:26
SIR_TacoNutts: when the 'scrolling dots' are on the screen, you can hit ESC and it should show you the boot process. You might see an error there (could be driver related, could be hardware related)01:27
NuttsSir_Taco: Ok let's see what she does01:28
NuttsSir_Taco: Ok looks like a driver issue. "b43-phy0 error: firmware file "b43/ucode5.fw" not found01:31

BluesKajgenii-around, I have 2 internal drives and one external , each internal drive has 2 partitions , the external is formatted to ext4 and contains media files mostly. I've reading about UUID and it's settings in fstab , but each OS installed has it's own fstab and designates each partition on all drives differently from each other's fstab , Will UUID tie the partitons on the drives so they have common IDs in each fstab15:03
BluesKaj?15:03
genii-aroundBluesKaj: Work, sorry for lag15:06
BluesKajnp genii-around , I'm here all morning15:07
genii-aroundBluesKaj: The UUID is always static no matter what order the system boots up in, or what order the BIOS puts the drives15:07
BluesKajok genii-around how do I implement UUID , been looking for tutorials , but there seem to be any current ones15:08
bazhang!blkid15:09
ubottuTo see a list of your devices/partitions and their corresponding UUID's, run this command in a !shell: « sudo blkid » (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibAtaForAtaDisks for the rationale behind the transition to UUID)15:09
genii-aroundBluesKaj: To find the UUID: sudo blkid15:09
* genii-around sips coffee and stares at bazhang15:09
BluesKajbazhang, that doesn't tell me much15:10
genii-aroundBluesKaj: To implement the UUID in fstab, format is like: UUID=73ef1624-8922-41bd-a946-1fbe06434324 /               ext4    errors=remount-ro 0       115:10

viktorhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/1159180/15:11
BluesKajgenii-around, so do I run the command on each OS ?15:11
genii-aroundBluesKaj: Since the UUID never changes, no, just under one, then record the UUID so you can use it in the different fstab files for each system15:12
BluesKajok genii , thanks15:13
BluesKajgoing back to the main drive 12.04 to do the UUIDs , sudo blkid , since it's the stable OS in my setup ..BBIAB15:19

chilly_whoa.. ur right kvaks.. thanks for the info..16:15
KvaksNo prob!16:15
chilly_its kind of awkward going kubuntu from windows..16:15
KvaksGood move. You'll get used to the differences quickly, I think.16:16
chilly_I hope so.. this is the third time I reinstall my machine with linux distro16:16
chilly_never got the plugin usb modem to work till now16:17

chilly_i tried netbeans ide, and i cant even press enter to change line..16:20
chilly_but really some kde feature are nice, like that desktop icons..16:21
chilly_having said that.. do you know how to remove icons from the desktop? most programs i tried installing, i have no idea how to uninstall them completely.. the icons are still left behind16:22
KvaksI don't know, I don't have any icons on my desktop at all. Did you drag them there? Right-click and delete, perhaps?16:23
SaCruMHi there, someone here know the game summoning wars? It is pretty hard to install apparently. Someone here have it installed and could guide me to install it? Please..16:23
chilly_nope.. it came with the installation i suppose..16:24
chilly_i didnt do anything but now i have icons on the desktop, similar to iphone menus.. which is quite neat16:24
chilly_i was installing kubuntu from server edition, and installed kde interface from there.16:25
chilly_for sacrum, i didnt play game much.. maybe you can use wine, as kvaks and i discussed just now16:25
SaCruMchilly_: summoning wars was developed for linux. Its just hard to install, i think i need a lot of deps like ogre, ois, lua5.1... :S16:26
chilly_hoboy.... i cant event start webgl for my chrome installation in kubuntu.. u lost me in the dependency..16:28
=== skreech__ is now known as Daskreech
cmaginaviktor: as i said, the issue is an installer problem, which is an area i have no knowledge of. i'd talk to mint, ubuntu or debian about it as there is a greater chance of finding someone with installer internals knowledge who could help you16:35
viktorcmagina16:40
viktorthe problem is by GPT partitions16:40
viktori erase all the disk with Gparted16:40
viktorand derate a new partition tab16:40
viktorLinux create MBR partitions by defect?16:40
cmaginanot sure actually16:40
cmaginathe system did properly detect your partitions, both the kernel and the installer, the issue was that the installer failed when it was looking at them for their filesystem type (NTFS, etc.)16:42
cmaginait figured out some of them, but looks like when it should have returned that information to the partitioner it returned nothing16:42
cmaginawhich means there is a bug in the partition scanner that could definitely be related to your system using GPT16:43
chilly_@kvaks : yowzer, npp and wine works like charm.. thanks again.. ciao16:43
cmaginaif it works by not using gpt, awesome, but its probably worth while to submit a bug against the installer with that syslog and the details of your setup so it can be fixed :)16:44

andrewxCan some1 PLEASE tell me how I can download a package to a specific folder? like apt-get -d <package_name> /folder  is there a way to do this please?21:48
DeadTOmIt's a matter of finding the actual path to the package you want and then you can just use wget.21:50
BluesKajandrewx, the downloads are defaulted to /home/your/username /Downlods21:51
andrewxLOL21:52
andrewxyou mean to say: /var/cache/apt/archives/21:52
andrewxbut that does not address my question.21:52
andrewxI was curious if it was possible to download a package to a specific folder21:52
DeadTOm1Yes, you can do that with wget.21:52
andrewxso I wouldn't have to go hunting through cache,21:52
DeadTOm1To my knowledge, it can't be done with apt-get.21:53
DeadTOm1No you could grab it from the repo with wget.21:53
andrewxcan I get apt-get to tell the specific URL ?21:53
andrewxI guess for now, its plucking it out of cache...21:53
DeadTOm1If you know the name of the package, you can google it, with your ubuntu version name and it will turn up the path to it in the repo.21:54
BluesKajuhm if you download an app from a website , /home/your/username/Downlods isn the target file21:54

andrewxwho's silly idea was that anyway?21:57
DeadTOm1wget will write to either the folder you're running it from or with the -P21:57
BluesKajandrewx, otherwise rekonq doesn't load pages properly, it's hopeless21:57
andrewxI usually use -O myself.21:57
