dholbachdpm, we finally got ubuntu-packaging-guide into the archive! :)10:54
dholbachwith that we should be ready to start the translations :)10:54
dpmdholbach, \o/ nice!10:54
dpmdholbach, I'll need to manually approve the translation template the first time off. Do you have the link to the source package in LP, is it just ubuntu-packaging-guide?10:55
* dpm looks10:55
dholbachdpm, hum - is it not https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu-packaging-guide?10:57
dholbachwe generate the source package from the upstream branch10:57
dpmdholbach, yep. Looking at https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/ubuntu-packaging-guide/+imports it seems it does not generate a .pot file on build10:57
dpmit needs to create it so that the .pot template can be imported by LP10:58
dholbachthat'd be for language packs, right?10:58
dpmyeah10:58
dholbachah, we won't be in main for a while :)10:58
dpmah, gotcha10:58
dholbachso I'll mail the l10n list later on when the package is available for installation10:59
dholbachit was just binaryNEWed10:59
dpmdholbach, actually, we do enable universe translations now, so it could still be translated in LP10:59
dholbachright now it be possible to translate it in the lp: project11:00
dholbachand Ubuntu Translators should be able to do it11:00
dholbachis there an advantage to translate the source package?11:00
dpmone big advantage is that you get more people translating it. Having a template available on translations.l.n/ubuntu gives it way more visibility. Translations can be enabled both in the upstream project and the Ubuntu source package, as they are shared (translate in one place, it gets automatically translated on the other side)11:03
dpmalso, I haven't been following Sphinx for a while, so I cannot really remember if it uses gettext at runtime. But if it does, and it loads .mo files for translations, then translations can be shipped in language packs instead of SRU'ing them11:04
dholbachhum11:04
dpmanyway, these are the options on the table, now up to you to decide :)11:05
dholbachI'm not quite sure about this - right now we ship ubuntu-packaging-guide-html-de packages11:05
dholbachor we are going to in the future, if we have a certain percentage of translations in11:05
dpmah, that makes me think that it doesn't use gettext, but rather generates translated html files11:05
dholbachyes11:05
