cooper_Hi, someone could help me? My iphone is mount as a camera, I have really no idee how to change that. I found something on the net : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=978623 (thread from sirzubov) but I don't know how to create a fdi file like he asked to do.07:33
cooper_nobody? :(07:37
Torchcooper_: this is most certainly outdated information07:48
Torchcooper_: hal is not being used anymore, it was replaced by udev07:49
cooper_Torch: Hum ok ok, well. Gonna continue to search on the web. I really found nothing else to fix my problem07:49
Torchcooper_: you need to find udev rules that do the same as the xml did for hal07:49
cooper_ok nice, gonna search that07:49
Torchcooper_: also, the forum thread is about preventing the iphone from being found _at all_. is that what you really want?07:50
cooper_ah euh no!07:51
cooper_Torch: I just want to mount my iphone not as a camera but as an iphone07:51
Torchcooper_: let me guess... you'd like to mount your phone as a mass storage device?07:51
cooper_Torch: Because right now, Amarok doesn't see my phone07:51
Torchcooper_: i wouldn't be surprised if apple jsut wouldn't let you do that07:51
Torchcooper_: does amarok handle iphones?07:51
Torchcooper_: i thought apple encrypted their stuff these days07:52
cooper_Torch: I read everywere that amarok can do that07:52
susundbergi guess if its mass storage one can play music from there ..07:52
susundbergoh that might be true Torch07:52
cooper_Torch: Oh I understand... You must have right... The fucking maj just arrive before I install ubuntu07:52
cooper_Torch: So they are no way to put my music on my iphone with kubuntu?07:53
Torchcooper_: i have no experience of my own with iphones, but my guess would be, unless you wnat to use itunes under wine (which i have heard works), no07:53
cooper_I don't want to install windows just to put music on my phone :P And I tried to install iTunes (hate that shit) by wine and play on linux but no sucess07:54

Unit193cooper_: Please do keep it family friendly.07:54
SmurphyI have tried to control my iPod Touch 4G under KUbuntu/Amarok. Won't work. The iPod Touch 2G of my wife works just fine.07:54
SmurphyThey have encrypted the File system on IOS 5.x - so in case you can put an older version on it - it should work.07:55
hateballThe lesson to be learned here is to buy Linux-friendly hardware.07:55
Smurphysame applies to iPhones BTW.07:55
Smurphyack.07:55
Torchor at least no locked down devices.07:55
cooper_hateball: You can't imagine how i regrest to buy a iPhone but I did it before even try linux. I was on the darkness :P07:56
cooper_Older version... Hum... No bad idee07:56
cooper_But I guess is very hard with apple to go back07:57
hateballEither way, I was under the impression Amarok and others handled iStuff, but that might only apply to iPods?07:57
Torchhateball: at some point apple began locking down communication to their gadgets and encrypting it all...07:58
hateballTorch: I see07:58
Torchhateball: that's why the older devices work but the newer don't07:58
hateballI've never owned a piece of Apple hardware, for certain reasons07:58
cooper_Hateball: Like Torch and Smurphy said. It must be the new update of the 5.1.107:58
cooper_hateball: You have right, apple is worst than windows right now07:59
Tm_Tcooper_: kind note to watch the language (:07:59
cooper_In french we had something very funny about apple windows and linux, don't know if you will understand but it's so true. Let me find it.07:59
hateballIt's all quite offtopic, and wont help you connect Kubuntu to it08:00
hateball:)08:00
cooper_ok ok08:00
cooper_Gonna keep that for myself :P08:00
hateballThat said, Android devices with ICS+ arent much fun either, using MTP instead of Mass Storage08:01
cooper_Well, right now I have two choice. Go back to an older version or try again with itunes via wine. Right?08:01
Torchhateball: but that's just because linux' support for mtp is totally unstable and immature08:01
hateballTorch: Yes, agreed.08:01
Torchhateball: these can be worked with, someone just has to write the code (and make it stable for daily use)08:02
Torchcooper_: i do think itunes works with wine, but check their app db08:02
hateballI just use bluetooth or scp, problem worked around ;b08:02
cooper_Torch: If I found any other solution than use itunes I would be very happy :P08:03
* Smurphy never tried iTunes with wine ... Would be fun though.08:03
TorchSmurphy: it obviously won't make itunes _better_ ;-)08:03
SmurphyStill have Mac Os-X on my mac mini - specifically for iTunes. All iPhoto stuff moved/migrated to digikam already. But it was not a perfect migration. Much of hand work involved.08:04
SmurphyTorch: full ack.08:04
Torchhttp://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1347 -- looks bad though... from reading the entries, raiting should be "garbage" throughout on newer versions08:06
cooper_Gonna sleep :P Thanks for all the advice. Know far better what's wrong now :)08:11

raymearshi people. i am experiencing a weird issue and have been for quite a while now, ever since the upgrade to 12.04 in.. april, when it came out.16:16
raymearsthe problem is: if the browser (chrome or chromium) is open, and i try to listen to music (in amarok) or watch videos (vlc/dragon) or even skype (!) it occasionally - every 30sec~1m i get a hiccup16:17
raymearsmore precisely... it is basically a half a second long bit of the sound that was playing.. which gets repeated about 3 times.16:18
raymearsit was funny at first, because it sounded a bit like hip-hop, especially in skype. but it gets really annoying after a while16:19
raymearsany idea what it might be? it didn't go away after i upgraded to kde 4.9 from backports. so... i am guessing it has something to do with main infrastructural aspects...16:20
Peace-raymears: try kill pulse16:31
Peace-kill pulseadui16:32
Peace-kill pulseaudio16:32
raymearsand then?16:32
raymearscause i remember i can't start pulse from the console16:32
Peace-raymears: just try if it does the same16:33
raymearsoh. it automatically starts a new process. ok16:33
raymearslet's see16:33
raymearswell.. it will probably work...because what i used to do whenever i wanted to watch a movie.. i would logout, restart x and login again..16:35
raymearsas long as i would not start the browser it would work.. no issues whatsoever. so restarting pulse.. (which i had not thought of) will spare me the relogin16:36
raymearsbut it does not fix the underlying problem, does it?16:37
Peace-raymears: pulse audio for some audio card is a pain16:37
raymearsi mean. it persist across reboots and stuff. so... hmm...16:37
Peace-i have problem too with jack16:37
Peace-i mean jackd16:37
Peace-i need to kill pulse to get the audio into the flash stuff16:37
Peace-or i have to remove jackd16:38
raymearsi have a middle of the road HDA Intel (ALC889 Digital)16:38
raymearsso i am not expecting any issues with the hardware. it is as mainstream as ...bread16:39
BluesKajraymears, your sn_hda_intel module should work if it's loaded and indexed in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf16:42
BluesKajerr snd_hda_intel16:43
raymearswell, the sound card works perfectly16:44
raymearsit is just that someone along the way.. probably pulse... mucks stuff up16:44
BluesKajPeace-, if you installed all the defaults , then you have pulseaudio16:45
raymearsand i use pulse16:45
=== spawn57 is now known as spawn[dead]
BluesKajraymears, rather ^16:45
raymearsno more alsa since.. 2010 or something, whenever ubuntu first switched to it. stuck with it. works best for me. had no issues up til today16:46
BluesKajPeace-, have you tried webaudio (flash) without pulse ?16:46
BluesKajraymears, you probly have alsa since pulse rides on top of it as a sound server for all audio16:47
raymearsreally?16:47
BluesKajyes16:47
BluesKajtype alsamixer in the terminal16:48
raymearsi thought it was one or the other, that they were mutually exclusive16:48
BluesKajnot at all they depend on each other in many situations16:48
raymearshttp://www.ehow.com/info_10053847_difference-between-alsa-pulseaudio.html yeah16:48
macoalsa is the driver layer16:48
BluesKajyup16:48
macopulseaudio is a user-space layer on top16:48
macoit can also be on top of bluez for bluetooth sound devices, for example16:49
macoalsalib exists as well, as the connector between the driver and userspace. some applications use alsalib directly, but pulseaudio can pass that stuff through16:49
Peace-BluesKaj: i need pulseaudio because google video talks needs it16:49
Peace-so wehn it doens't work i just kill it once after login16:50
BluesKajI'm trying to find a way to run my soundcard strictly on alsa , I can do so with my pc audio , but not web audio that uses flash16:50
raymearsok, learnt something new today :) thanks guys16:50
maco(pulse only emulates a subset of alsalib's giant interface of doom, however. there is a list somewhere of the "safe subset" which also kinda boils down to "the parts of alsalib that are still maintained and regularly tested" so...straying from them is a bad idea with or without pulse)16:50
raymearsbtw, the issue seems to persist. amarok is doing it's hiccup thingy again.16:50
Peace-BluesKaj: well i would really killl pulse but i need it for video chat :D16:50
Peace-raymears: tried phonon-backend-vlc ?16:51
raymearsit has no bloody equalizer for amarok16:51
Peace-raymears: systemsettinsg> multimedia> advanced > backends16:51
Peace-raymears: you need to install it before16:51
raymearsi did try it on my laptop16:51
raymearsthe 0.6 version16:52
Peace-ok :D16:52
Peace-no ideas16:52
Peace-then16:52
* GirlyGirl remembers the countless times she has seen a pulseaudio discussion in here16:52
Peace-now i have to go bye bye  BluesKaj16:52
raymearsi have not tried it on the desktop though. sorry. the laptop is irelevant, cause i don't have the issue on there16:52
BluesKajPeace-, well it seems alsa devel has kind of fallen behind since pulse became default , now more and more hardware depends on pulse to direct it's IO16:52
raymearsbye, thanks16:53
BluesKajbye Peace-16:53
raymearsweird. i might give vlc a try and see if i can manage without the equalizer in amarok.16:54
BluesKajamarok has become too much for me ..reminds me of wmp ...tries to too much that I don't want or need16:55
BluesKajto do too much16:55
raymearshmm.. i use basic functionality16:56
BluesKajthere's that word again ...covers a whole host of meanings , but sounds so techy :)16:56
raymearsi agree that there is a lot of bloat.16:57
raymearsbut i still like it. for its collection browser mainly16:57
raymearsperformance has improved alot... but i was astonished16:57
raymearsthat 2.6 added only features i don't use16:57
BluesKajodd , most ppl like playlists I hate them , they interfere too much ...vlc works for me tho16:58
raymearsnot playlists. collection browser. allows me to basically do queries on my collection and create playlists on the fily16:58
* BluesKaj shrugs ..not my cuppa tea17:00
raymears i love dynamic playlists and the fact that the song ratings i provide... are taken into account to generate interesting new playlists.17:01
raymearsquite nice.17:01
