[00:27] Hello guys [00:28] Beginning testing of ubuntu studio 12.04.1 [00:28] What should we be testing? [00:46] Installing ubuntustudio now === TheMaster is now known as Unit193 [02:22] hello murfman [11:09] TheWonderingGuru: You said you have a bootloader problem? [11:09] hi i set up the xrdp everything... almost everything looks fine. if i connect via mstsc.exe i only see the gray bgnd and the big black X cursor. (pls dont blame me :)) [11:09] Yes, for some reason the bootloader enters a rescue mode now. [11:09] Hmm, did you uninstall it or move the partition somewhere? [11:10] I installed linux mint debian on a seperate external usb drive and then when I rebooted my computer to go into my main distro "ubuntu studio" it acts like the bootloader is not there and enters the rescue mode. [11:10] Try https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows and use the graphical instructions. [11:14] Hmm. Would this work if I just used the boot repair in ubuntu studio without loading it up onto a cd? [11:14] Im fresh out of dvd's large enough to accomodate ubuntu studio. [11:14] TheWonderingGuru: Try to use a CD in Ubuntu desktop [11:15] maybe use the terminal way in the link [11:15] Would this work? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair [11:15] Well, of course:) [11:18] Do you think it is necessary to back up my entire hard drive before attempting this? [11:18] TheWonderingGuru: If you're willing to, it's better.:) [11:18] I'll do that then... [11:18] Too much important stuff on this computer. I would cry if I lost it. [11:18] lol [11:19] TheWonderingGuru: :) [11:20] Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Much better then the wise asses in the other room who kept wanting to put me down, because they thought I was in the wrong room. [11:21] TheWonderingGuru: Sort of, but then a GRUB bootloader issue is a Ubuntu problem over all:) [11:22] Im going to start backing up now. Take care, stay amazing, and have a wonderful day :) [12:49] hi [12:49] ubuntu-studio_: What are your problems again? [12:49] ok [12:49] :) [12:49] My ubuntu doesn't start [12:50] I can see just same black and white squers [12:50] ubuntu-studio: You mean your Ubuntu Studio won't start, or is it the normal Ubuntu Desktop? [12:50] I have the data in the home [12:50] cataloge [12:50] so, In my opinion I must reinstal ubuntu [12:50] ubuntu-studio_: Are you trying to boot into Ubuntu Studio? [12:51] I dont know how [12:51] ubuntu-studio_: Please answer my question first [12:51] I can get live sessions [12:51] yest [12:51] yes [12:51] OK, so you can't install, is that right? [12:51] But you can use live session [12:52] Try to launch the installer in the live session. There should be a shortcut there in the desktop [12:52] I can install new one, without any problems, but Iam not shure if it will cancel my files jn the home directiory [12:53] ubuntu-studio_: What do you mean? [12:53] Do you have another Ubuntu distro on your computer? [12:53] yest the old one, I can not start it [12:53] So, you mean you can't even start the old distro, right? [12:53] On hard disc there are my files [12:54] Actually, you can dual-boot [12:54] no [12:54] just one [12:54] there is one distro [12:54] on hard disk [12:55] ubuntu-studio_: I mean that you can have two distros at once [12:55] No, I have just one distro on one hard disc [12:55] that's it [12:56] ubuntu-studio_: So you want Ubuntu Studio to cover Ubuntu completely? [12:56] yes [12:56] but exept home folder [12:56] Hmm, your files will be lost then, even the home foler [12:56] *folder [12:56] Please back it up:) [12:57] :) yes, but I have home folder on the separate partition [12:58] so It is possible keep it [12:58] Er, then I don't think so [12:58] You can keep it [12:58] but how do that? [12:59] Well, since that when installing Ubuntu Studio it will only cover the partition that Ubuntu is installed, it won't affect the partition that has your home folder [12:59] ubuntu-studio_: Launch the installer in your live session [13:00] ok I'm doing [13:00] Good, then install [13:00] I am choosing the language [13:00] Uh huh, good [13:01] I am going.... [13:01] ok a have a choice [13:01] Ah ha, is that on where you install Ubuntu? [13:02] instal second ubuntu.. remove ubuntu, and, use another solutio [13:02] which is good for me? 3? [13:02] But 3 would be difficult [13:03] I think use 2. [13:03] Don't worry, I think the home files won;t disappear [13:03] are you shure? [13:03] :) [13:03] I'm thinking [13:03] could you ask some one? [13:04] its very difficult write in english for me. [13:04] Well, wait for a moment [13:04] :) you mean you are thinking = you are shure? it is good? [13:05] thanks [13:05] Thinking means I'm trying to be sure, wait [13:06] :) ok I am waiting [13:06] I'm sure [13:07] It would not affect your home folder [13:07] Since it is in another partition [13:07] use 2. [13:07] ok, I can see if I was right [13:07] I mean use the second option [13:08] ok thank you very much.. [13:09] No problem [13:10] but... I can see there are just two partition, so, I was wrong [13:10] ubuntu-studio: Why? [13:10] I can see the partition [13:10] there are two, [13:11] When I do a clean one I only got one! [13:11] so home is not on separeta one [13:11] ubuntu-studio_: What? [13:11] ok, I will make a back up [13:12] thanks so much, [13:12] bye [13:12] ubuntu-studio_: It is a good practice to make a backup [13:12] I know [19:42] Hello, anyone here using darktable ? [20:43] hi, i'm just about to configure libgig on UbuntuStudio, and I've reached the part of the install instructions where i open /debian/rules, and prefix the ./configure line … how do i determine what information i should put there? this is the first time i've tried to recompile anything, FWIW [21:05] UberMusik: yeah, and unfortunately, it'll dependon the application [21:05] UberMusik: i can offer one suggestion, try using checkinstall [21:05] !checkinstall | UberMusik [21:05] UberMusik: checkinstall is a wrapper to "make install", useful for installing programs you compiled. It will create a .deb package, which will be listed in the APT database and can be uninstalled like other packages. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CheckInstall - Read the warnings at the top and bottom of that web page, and DO NOT interrupt CheckInstall while it's running! [21:05] can make it *much* easier to uninstall later, from any package manager === hg is now known as Guest92197 [21:07] looks like its in the repos anyways http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/precise/libgig [21:09] i would probably look at the KXstudio ppas to see if falk is supplying the latest versions there [21:17] holstein and ubottu: thanks .. i will look into this further .. cheers [21:17] ubottu is just a bot.. but i wish you luck [21:17] holstein: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :) [21:18] ubottu is a bot [21:18] Yes, I can confirm that I am a bot. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Bots for all information. [21:18] UberMusik: also, you might find help in #opensourcemusicians [23:00] where is the system startup? [23:02] what do you mean by system startup? [23:02] yes [23:02] yes? [23:02] well where you select tasks to start up [23:03] you know, where you select what you want to start and what you dont want to start [23:04] you mean the Session and Startup, autorun of aplication tab in the Configuration menu? [23:04] i suppose yes [23:15] what i am doing is installing Mate desktop so lets see what that produces [23:24] :) good luck, but remember maté is not a supported wm on the ubuntu'sverse, not that you wont recieve any more support or anything, but be warned [23:34] i'm just messing about basically
