[03:46] hello? [03:48] hello! [03:56] Oh wow the channel is live [03:59] I am looking for an active linux community in wa. [04:13] lol [04:14] this channel is not live [04:14] and i gotta go [23:20] So what's the deal with this channel? [23:24] hi creftos [23:24] the deal? [23:24] this is the official channel for the Washington state ubuntu users [23:24] oh neato [23:25] I just sent a request to join the group [23:25] however, since we don't have anybody currently who has time to take up leadership [23:25] on launchpad [23:25] it's pretty much social only [23:25] right on [23:25] we're not official with Ubuntu [23:25] yet [23:26] since we don't have many real-life functions [23:26] I see [23:26] but that could change with some leadership and energy [23:26] * valorie used to have the time, right now does not [23:26] Well I'm somewhat new-ish to linux [23:27] oh cool [23:27] I've been using it sporadically over the last few years, but only recently been trying to delve more deeply [23:27] I'm a long-time user, but rather new to being involved with the community [23:27] my current time, such as it is, goes to KDE [23:28] and visiting my dad in his nursing home [23:28] I see [23:28] I've also been trying to find an open source project to work on [23:28] I guess the two main things I've been using that are open source are ubuntu and eclipse [23:29] eclipse the IDE? [23:29] Yes [23:29] ah, I wasn't aware that was still widely used [23:29] or being developed [23:29] what do you develop in? [23:29] I'm a writer and community person [23:30] oh right on [23:30] when i was thinking about how to get involved, I became active here and in Amarok [23:30] and ended up writing the Amarok Handbook [23:30] very nice [23:30] it's been a lot of fun [23:31] where in Washington state are you, creftos? [23:31] * valorie lives south of Seattle [23:31] Bremerton. Looking to move to the seattle area. [23:31] near Black Diamond, if you've heard of that [23:31] ah, Bremerton is nice [23:31] yes I have actually [23:32] off hwy 18, right? [23:32] I had a great-uncle who lived there for many years, working at the shipyards [23:32] yes [23:32] yeah, a lot of people here either work for the shipyard or the navy [23:32] on the way to the mountain [23:33] So what do groups generally do? [23:33] or what have you guys done in the past? [23:33] release parties, bug days, free software days [23:33] we have a booth at linuxfest northwest [23:34] and have had one/cooperated with ubuntu oregon at OSCON [23:34] etc. [23:34] What exactly are bugdays? [23:35] there is an official one, which we did last year [23:35] we got together at a local library and tested out the beta ISOs [23:35] that was cool, but a lot of work setting it up, then I had only one guy show up [23:35] so basically finding and filing bug reports? [23:35] aww [23:36] testing and yes, filing bug reports [23:36] right on [23:36] but sometimes people can do patches too [23:36] which is always awesome [23:36] this year I just don't have the time/energy [23:36] with my dad as he is [23:37] so we need someone/a few folks to step up [23:37] or continue as we are, which is sort of a holding pattern [23:37] anyway, nice talking to you but my husband wants to go out for dinner [23:38] alright [23:38] thanks for the info! [23:38] * valorie disconnects for now...... [23:38] hang out with us! [23:38] we'll eventually make something happen [23:38] that would be great [23:38] :-) [23:39] yup [23:39] it's a great group, lots of fun [23:39] we just need more people [23:39] bye for now [23:39] see ya
