[00:18] hey guys how do i apply a kernel patch?? [00:29] where can i download 3.2.0-23-generic kernel?? [06:56] Greetings, [06:59] I'm getting an error regarding compiling virtual box when I try to install any of the 3.5.x "quantal" .deb packages from kernel.ubuntu.com [06:59] ERROR (dkms apport): kernel package linux-headers-3.5.3-030503-generic is not supported [07:00] Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/4.1.12/build/make.log for more information. [07:01] and the make log reports: [07:01] var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/4.1.12/build/vboxguest/r0drv/linux/memobj-r0drv-linux.c: In function ‘rtR0MemObjLinuxDoMmap’: [07:01] var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/4.1.12/build/vboxguest/r0drv/linux/memobj-r0drv-linux.c:1150:9: error: implicit declaration of function ‘do_mmap’ [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration] [07:02] I did a few googles, and foud a couple patches. [07:02] virtual box seems to have a patch out there, but I have no idea what to do. [07:02] I would have to download the source from git, I assume. [07:03] however I don't see where the kernel and virtualbox intersect. === nick is now known as Guest20374 === jussio1 is now known as jussi [12:39] * rtg works on 3.5.3 [12:56] * henrix -> late lunch [13:11] ogasawara, pushed quantal 3.5.3 rebase [13:12] rtg: ack, thanks. I'm debating on uploading it today vs tomorrow since it took the better part of the weekend for the builds to finish [13:12] rtg: and beta-1 freeze is thurs [13:12] ogasawara, yeah, maybe should do it later today then [13:13] ogasawara, you're gone thurs, right ? I'm outta here by noon on thurs [13:13] rtg: I'm actually gone wed-mon [13:13] ogasawara, right [14:35] hi [14:35] is bug 1042269 proper way to ask for removal of really useless module from distro kernel? [14:37] rtg: it does not. just thing to consider at next uds kernel discussion [14:38] [26544.011293] progear_bl: ALI M7101 PMU not found. [14:38] that's all what it gives [14:38] submitting driver was fun but long time ago [14:40] hrw, so, that driver looks like it depends on X86 and PCI. Why _wouldn't_ it work on a normal PC ? [14:41] hrw, rather then disable the config, how about submitting a patch upstream to remove the driver if the HW is no longer available. [14:42] rtg: cause it depends on ALI southbridge and one more pci device present in device [14:42] * ogasawara back in 20 [14:42] rtg: hm, that's an option too [14:42] hrw, thats probably the best course. [14:43] thanks [14:43] I gave hw to someone else ~year ago [14:55] patch sent [14:57] hrw, I updated the bug accordingly [15:00] rtg: anything against me assigning it to myself just to mark as done once driver get removed? [15:01] hrw, no problem here, though upstream will likely want to merely deprecate the driver for 2-3 releases before removing it entirely, so bug completion may take awhile. [15:01] will see [15:46] jsalisbury, I think bug #1041397 is more a feature request then anything, and one that I'm inclined to NAK.
