dador33hello everyone ,, how are you doing  :D01:57
Jarsoom766Hey01:57
Jarsoom766Question... How do you boot xubuntu with lilo?01:58
drcJarsoom766: You wanting to dualboot xubuntu and slackware?02:00
Jarsoom766Yup02:00
drchttp://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-distributions-5/dual-boot-ubuntu-and-slackware-13-37-a-4175423036/02:00
Jarsoom766I have Absolute Linux and Xubuntu on the same disk02:00
Jarsoom766I boot Xubuntu, it gets to tty1, system freezes.02:01
Jarsoom766Doesn't recognize keystrokes or mouse02:01
drcYou'd do better asking on LinuxQueations, as they actually use lilo02:01

G__81when i do a git clone i get this warning for every repo03:45
G__81the warning is03:45
G__81WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-pndHdL/pkcs11: No such file or directory03:45
G__81can someone tell me how to suppress this ?03:45
G__81and sometimes i get the gnome-keyring dialog box appear on screen when i go to some website it comes up randomly03:45
G__81i am not sure whether these two problems are inter connected03:46
xubuntu463hello03:49
unheedingcan anyone help me to customize the trash icon in XFCE?04:04
tech1you can use a different icon theme pack04:05
tech1or duplicate the one you are using and edit the trash icon for it04:05
unheedingcould i just go to the trash icon and replace it with the one i want?04:07
tech1maybe. let me see04:07
tech1with the Nautilus file explorer you can edit folders with right click, propeties.....not sure about the trash though. i cant find that folder04:08
G__81 when i do a git clone i get this warning for every repo04:08
G__81 WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-pndHdL/pkcs11: No such file or directory04:08
G__81how do i suppress this ?04:08
drctech1: ~/.local/share/Trash04:09
G__81and sometimes i get the gnome-keyring dialog box appear on screen when i go to some website it comes up randomly04:09
tech1ok. the ~/.local/share/Trash icon is just a regular folder icon in my nautilus..... so the "Rubbish Bin" on the desktop and side panel probably gets the icon from the icon theme04:10
tech1so just go to settings > appearance > icons and choose a different theme.04:11
unheedingbut the icon i want to use is not part of a particular theme04:13
tech1well you can create your own theme, just duplicate the theme you have(with a new name), whch will keep your current icons, then edit the one you want to change04:14
tech1it would be simpler to edit the system theme without duplicating the theme, but i wouldnt recommend that04:15
unheedingwow I did it04:31

Andy80hello07:42
Andy80one question: Ubuntu will almost surely remove the alternate-install CDs starting from the next release. Are you going to follow the same path or are you thinking about keeping the alternate-install? Thanks07:43
knomeAndy80, we are discussing it, but it looks like we're going to drop it as well07:44
Andy80bad news then :(07:44
knomethere are other ways: netboot and minimal iso07:44
knomewe have no manpower to maintain the alternates if ubuntu drops them, that's one of the main arguments for dropping07:45
Andy80I've nothing agains graphic installers, but.... think about RAID setup for example... it won't be ready for 12.1007:46
Andy80oh.. I can understand it then07:46
Andy80if Ubuntu drops it you would have to do the whole work yourself07:46
knomeyou can use 12.04 then, or any release after that supports RAID07:46
Andy80well.. probably it's easier to use the server version07:51
Sysimini.iso has alt installer with raid capabilities07:52
knomeAndy80, yeah, there's server too. though they are probably going to drop server i386 too.07:52
knomethey are looking to reduce the ISO/build amount, and this is a very effective way07:53
Andy80well... at least they should clearly state: we want to get rid of old PCs07:56
Andy80it would be more honest :P07:56
Andy80keep in mind anyway that lot of times (even with recent hardware... 2-3 years) we had problems with graphic installer... in particular with very cheap graphic cards07:57
Andy80and we had to use the alternate-install07:57
knomethe thing is07:57
knomeubiquity (the graphical installer) might not work with all cards, but that's because people have been sent to alternate07:57
Andy80so starting from 12.10 it could be impossible for us (us/we: I talk in name of the linux user group I manage) to install Ubuntu on our PCs07:57
knomenow, instead of sending to alternate, we will make people file the bugs, and they'll probably be fixed07:58
Andy80yeah, that's the point---07:58
knomeyou can always use the 12.04 ISO - that's LTS, and it's no way "obsolete"07:58
Andy80they should have already been fixed... that's not the way, imho07:58
knomeof course. but you didn't fix them :)07:58
knomei mean, not that we wouldn't like them to be fixed, but they aren't07:59
Andy80I've no skills to fix a bug with a graphic card, or I would have done it :)07:59
knomei'm sure ubiquity has been getting better07:59
knomethe release after LTS is the right time to do this change07:59
knomewouldn't make sense to try to upkeep it for a few more releases, since there won't be an LTS08:00
Sysiabout any graphics card should boot with "xforcevesa" option08:02
Kingsyanyone know of a nice ical app that sits in the notifaction area or something?08:05
Andy80old good days with text installer and recompiling kernel with my own optimizations as first thing to do ;)08:10
livingdaylightguys, is there a social-networking site like diaspora, open-source, protect and honor our privacy but that can connect with other services such as Google- and fciabook. What I loathe is "lock-in" where, whether its skype [good example] users are locked-in to one app or service to access other users /friends using that particular app/service08:12
livingdaylightdiaspora looks good but seems to suffer from lock-in. that creates a battle, where either everyone migrates to one or another service - whatever the herd decides is most popular08:13
livingdaylightcan become a self-fullfilling prophecy and remove our choice08:14
knomelivingdaylight, i don't think so08:15
livingdaylighthrmm... shame - its what we need. Its what I want anyway.08:15
marcappuccinoI guess since its not a real binary application lol08:29
SysiKingsy: it would be better to move it to ~/.local/share/applications/08:29
marcappuccino a .desktop file should be in /usr/share/xsessions and it contains desktops like xfce lxde unity etc08:29
marcappuccino...but why what do you hope to acheive with this08:29
Sysi.desktop files are in those application folders and they're used for menus08:29
Sysialso should I say08:30
Kingsywell I added the item manually and it works ok08:30
marcappuccino...but why what do you hope to acheive with this08:30
Kingsyso you say the reason it didnt appear was because it was in the wrong folder?08:30
Kingsymarcappuccino: I don't understand what your asking, I want to add an application to the application menu so I can run it? heh08:31
SysiKingsy: could be, or wrong permissions08:31
marcappuccinooh so the 'application' is a shortcut to your 'sunbird.sh' (app?)08:32
Kingsyyeah08:32
KingsySysi: i just assigned it to the root user.. perhaps it should have been my user?08:33
SysiKingsy: I've always operated in $HOME so I don't really know08:34

FounderOf420getting no detection what-so-ever16:19
blackgatonegrowell, lets me see16:19
blackgatonegrowell, did you install the propietary drivers?16:25
FounderOf420from samsung? no. they don't have a linux driver, only a .msi format16:27
blackgatonegrono I mean the ones in xubuntu16:27
blackgatonegrothe ones to read audio and video files16:27
blackgatonegrolike mp3 and that16:27
FounderOf420yeah, but only via the option at the install.16:28

FounderOf420is that the 'restricted-extras' ?16:28
blackgatonegroyes16:28
blackgatonegroinstall the xubuntu ones16:28
blackgatonegroxubuntu should show the android phone as  as a portable storage device when you plug it in, if its not, try to reboot the computer with the android phone conected16:29
FounderOf420ok16:29
blackgatonegrobut you need the restricted extras to play most video and audio files formats16:30
blackgatonegroon xubuntu16:30

blackgatonegrowell, it still helps16:32
blackgatonegroaudacious is a pain with some codecs -_-16:33
FounderOf420certainly does help16:34
blackgatonegrovlc on linux does not include dvd decoding by default, so you need to install medibuntu for that16:35

ubottumedibuntu is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution for legal reasons - See http://www.medibuntu.org16:36

blackgatonegroit seems you have a hardware specific issue, as android and ubuntu have become more compatible lately16:36

TheSheepFounderOf420: is this an android 4.x phone?16:58
TheSheepbecause the new androids are no longer visible as usb disks16:58
FounderOf420no 2.3.5 i believe16:58
TheSheepthey use mtp protocol to transfer files through usb16:59
TheSheepwhich means that on mac and linux (or anything not windows, really) you need a special application16:59
TheSheepgmtp works for me fine16:59
FounderOf420i have the mtp pckgs installed and the banshee plugin as well16:59
FounderOf420ok ill check that out17:00
TheSheepFounderOf420: you can see if your computer sees the device with the "lsusb" command in terminal17:00
TheSheepit will list all your usb connected devices17:00

FounderOf420i've had trouble with cables before but i've tried every one i have. even a brand new one from a Galaxy S317:04
TheSheepFounderOf420: it may be also the socket, or any internal connection, or something not related to the cables at all17:04
blackgatonegrowell17:04
TheSheepas far as I know error 71 is a generic protocl error17:04
blackgatonegrolets try the cable first17:05
TheSheepprotocol17:05
TheSheepand a different socket17:05
TheSheepbut it could also be something with the phone :(17:05
blackgatonegrowell some phones hardware doesnt like ubuntu17:06
blackgatonegrodoes your phone have a micro sd card?17:06
TheSheepI doubt it's ubuntu specifically, it follows the standard protocol after all17:06
FounderOf420yes, microSD17:07
FounderOf420i think it has to be the phone17:07
blackgatonegroyou could use an adapter and conect the microSD, that willwork for sure17:07
blackgatonegrois not a direct conection, but it will work.17:07
FounderOf420yeah i have ana dapter, also android sync manager to sync over wifi. but i really want to root this POS and get a new ROM17:08
